Bug#546787: RFA: libsndfile -- Library for reading/writing audio files

Which fortunately isn't needed.

I compiled the current libsndfile-1.0.20 from the debian source package
on MIPS, using libogg, libvorbis and libflac from Debain Sid and all tests
in the test suite passed.

Previous problems must have been either toolchain issues or problems
in libogg and libvorbis.

I'll roll a new package and upload it ASAP.

Cheers,

Oh, cool. I wasn't aware of those. I will give it a try in the
 next couple of days.

Getting Qemu set up and running the MIPS image was a major pain in the
neck despite having using qemu to run x86 and x86_64 images in the past.

The speed of resulting system is also far from acceptable. On a 4 year
old dual core amd64 machine, the configure and build of libsndfile takes
under two minutes. On the MIPS qemu guest running on the same system,
configure was well over 5 minutes (I didn't time it) and the compile has
now been running for over 30 minutes and is about half way through.

This is going to be an exceeding painful debugging process.

There's apparently an emulator called ovp: http://www.ovpworld2.org/

It requires a forum login to, at least, be able to download it.

I don't actually know if it works, or if it is possible to install Debian on
it, but it is said to be very fast.

HTH.

2009-10-03 Thread Raphael Geissert
Hi Erik,

Has there been any progress on taking over libsndfile and fixing the issues
detected by the test suite failures?

libsndfile is starting to block the migration of some packages which in turn
block even more.

Hi Raphael,

My main problem here is getting access to a MIPS machine for testing.

I have a friend who is a DD (Simon Horman) who tried to get access to
a MIPS porter machine but none of them seemed to be working when he
tried.

Yeah, seems like the two porter box machines are unavailable.
Do you have a program or something you want to build/run?
It might be easier to find somebody willing to try to build or run a program
on their own machines than giving you access.

By the way, have you tried a prebuilt qemu image?

http://people.debian.org/~aurel32/qemu/mips/
http://people.debian.org/~aurel32/qemu/mipsel/

You'll have to upgrade them to squeeze/sid, though.

I need to debug this one from the ground up. Need bzr and svn
clients, build tools and build-deps for libsndfile/libvorbis
and libogg.

It might be easier to find somebody willing to try to build or run a program
on their own machines than giving you access.

I have asked on the debian-mips mailing list. Got one offer that
was withdrawn before I could take them up on it (I was very busy
at that exact time).

2009-09-15 Thread Samuel Mimram
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the libsndfile package. I don't have enough
time right now to take properly care of it.

The package description is:
libsndfile is a library of C routines for reading and writing files containing
 sampled audio data.
 .
 Various versions of WAV (integer, floating point, GSM, and compressed formats);
Microsoft PCM, A-law and u-law formats; AIFF, AIFC and RIFX; various AU/SND
 formats (Sun/NeXT, Dec AU, G721 and G723 ADPCM); RAW header-less PCM files;
Amiga IFF/8SVX/16SV PCM files; Ensoniq PARIS (.PAF); Apple's Core Audio Format
 (CAF) and others.

Hi,

I am the upstream author of libsndfile. I am also a Debian maintainer
and in the process of becoming a DD.

I am more than willing to take over maintaining libsndfile in Debian.
