I fail to see how this is a bug from LMMS and not from Ardour.

While I do agree and appreciate that it would be nice to have everything working
at once, a previous step is simple, possible, and needed: it seems obvious that,
as they currently are, the calf-plugins and calf-ladspa packages must be marked
as conflicting with each other.

In the meantime LMMS devs renamed package and symbols to "veal"

https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/issues/3942

So things are fixed upstream. Sorry for forgetting to close this report.

Bug#870473: calf-ladspa: Conflicts with calf-plugins in ardour

2017-08-02 Thread Markus Schmidt
Package: calf-ladspa
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

installing calf-ladspa together with newer calf-plugins breaks usage of calf-
plugins at least in Ardour.

Reason is that LADSPA version of Calf plugins is deprecated since 0.0.19, only
LV2 plugins are installed with this version of calf-plugins. Installing calf-
ladspa side by side with calf-plugins leads to the following problem:

Ardour finds all installed calf plugins, LDASPA and LV2. Adding a plugin from
the suite to a channel strip crashes Ardour. Removing $PATH/ladspa/calf.so
fixes the problem.

Since LV2 is the successor of LADSPA there's no need to install LADSPA version,
only users of LMMS need this package. Users of LMMS and Ardour will have severe
problems using Calf plugins in Ardour.

Solution probably could be to rename the installed package and .so plugins to
something like calf-lmms or the like.

The next release of Calf plugins will search for the existence of
$PATH/ladspa/calf.so and refuses to build if it exists.
