Wonderful; I'll be sure to test it against my packages as soon as it'll
be ready. Thanks for your work :D

How can I help with testing? Is there a .deb I can download and install?

Hi Andrea,

it is "in work". We will definitely need people
for testing, filing and fixing bugs during transition.

Thanks for the proposal!

Best regards

Anton

Hi Anton, what's the status of your boost 1.80 packaging? I'm currently
having issues with a couple of packages depending on Boost because 1.74
contains a few bugs, and I'd be happy to help you with preparing the
next version if needed.

2022-04-22 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi,

I did some work a couple of months ago, packaging 1.78.
It worked, but I did not have time to finish it. I would probably
continue this work soon to prepare 1.79 or even 1.80 for the
next stable Debian version.

Cheers

Anton

Unfortunately I am not having a lot of time to care about Boost right
now, even if I'll get to it as soon as possible. I don't know what is
your experience with Debian packaging, but Boost if you're a beginner I
don't feel it's the right package to start with.

As you say, vendoring code is usually not considered a good idea in
Debian, but in can be a reasonable interim solution, I'd say, as long as
you're happy to switch back to the packaged dependency once it is
available. I would suggest you to investigate this road for
quick-lint-js. I won't be able to provide much help, though.

Thanks, Giovanni.

Bug#978748: libboost-dev: Boost 1.75

2022-02-24 Thread strager
Boost 1.75 introduced the Boost JSON library [1]. I am
trying to package some software [2] which depends on Boost
JSON.

Boost JSON is interesting because it has a standalone mode
which allows it to be used outside Boost. Should I wait for
Boost 1.75 to be in Debian, or should I make a Boost JSON
standalone-mode package for Debian?

(A third option is to use the Boost JSON vendored in the
software I'm trying to package. I understand that this is
frowned upon in Debian.)

Thanks,
Matthew "strager" Glazar

Eventually it will be (either 1.75 or a newer version), but I don't know
when. 1.74 will be in bullseye, there is no point rushing a new
transition now.
