Please support IPv6 networking, and listen on ::1 in addition to

As of 3.3.x, spamc and spamd both do support IPv6. There's some
remaining upstream work required in order to have it work by default,
but if you explicitly configure it it is fully supported.

Bug#575309: user-setup: Should stop adding first user to device access groups

2010-03-25 Thread Joey Hess
Frans Pop wrote:
I disagree with this proposed change. IMO the default group assignments are
in line with the purpose of the first user account.

I have three reasons to feel otherwise:

1. IIRC, the reason for adding the initial user to groups has been to provide
a good desktop experience. See bugs #352713, #166718.
So worrying about the first account not having hardware access when not
at the desktop seems like scope creep.

2. Having a non-console user in groups audio and video is a straight-up
security exposure. Anything that can be done to close that hole
is helpful. (I don't know what the status of revoking group
membership on logout is, but even without that, some avenues of
exploitation are pretty well closed by not having the first user in
   the groups statically.)

3. As a matter of principle, I feel there should be nothing special
about the first user account. We'd had to bend principle for groups
and /etc/sudoers, but these were imperfect hacks that suffered
from usability problems when eg, adding a second user, or upgrading
to a new version of Debian.

Now, two issues with the patch:

a. passwd/user-default-groups is a documented preseed variable,
so it probably needs to remain available for preseeders to use, and
the documentation will need to be updated.

b. I'm missing the list of exactly what groups consolekit puts the
console user in, so I can't tell if we have additional groups in our
   list.

Bug#534201: initramfs-tools: Tries to run elilo when elilo is disabled

2010-03-25 Thread Jayen Ashar
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.93.4
Severity: normal

reopen 534201
thanks

update-initramfs tries to run elilo, as it did for Matthias, even though it
is disabled.

Why do I have elilo installed and disabled, you may ask. It is recommended
by the di-netboot-assistant package, which says:
syslinux and elilo are needed if you plan to use the top menu.
I am using the top menu so I have elilo and syslinux installed.

Please update update-initramfs to check /etc/elilo.conf, as elilo.postint
does, thanks.

Bug#573582: please package 0.8 pre-release

2010-03-25 Thread Daniel Baumann

tag 573582 pending
thanks

i've merged 0.8 in git and updated the packaging to build with it,
however, there are a few things left to do before it can go to upstream,
namely:

  * the debhelper install files need to be updated to reflect the
newly added files as of 0.8. also, that should allow then to
build with dh_install --fail-missing.

  * probably, the package splitting (means, which and how many) for
the individual plugins should be updated (has to go through NEW
then though).

  * rather than locally embedding a plymouth-set-default-plugin.sh,
the upstream one should be patched were needed so that we don't
fork it anymore.

Regards,
Daniel

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I Jonathon Hill intend to adopt this packge.
Upstream Website: http://www.radscan.com/conquest.html

The package description is:
Conquest is a predecessor of netrek.
 .
The object of the game is twofold. The short-range goal
is to accumulate kills by shooting down enemy players.
You get one kill point for each enemy ship shot down,
plus some extra if the enemy had kills too. The major
weapon used to shoot down ships is the photon torpedo.
 .
The long-range goal is to conquer the universe for your
team by taking every planet. You take planets by killing
off the enemy's armies via bombardment, and then

 beaming
your team's armies down. When all the planets have been
taken, the game ends, a new game begins, and the player
who actually took the last planet gets his/her name up
 in lights.

Bug#575357: php5-adodb: Seems to be a duplicate package of libphp-adodb

2010-03-25 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: php5-adodb
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

When looking at packages libphp-adodb and php5-adodb, one thinks there's a
duplicate packaging.

It is quite difficult to understand at first sight, that the latter is an
optimization add-on of the former (if I understand correctly).

Maybe the naming of the packages could be a way to reflect this like -plugins
do sometimes for some apps.

Something like libphp-adodb-optimizations maybe ?

Hope this helps,

Best regards.

Bug#574201: Intent to NMU b2evolution to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs (and maybe RC bug as well)

2010-03-25 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

The b2evolution Debian package, which you are the maintainer of, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 552702 (and maybe other similar bugs).

Fixing #574201 could also be possible (apparently a missing Depends).

The i18n team is now hunting the very last bits of missing localization
and your package went on our radar. You may have uploaded recently but,
unfortunately for you, you then got *another* l10n bug report.

So, sorry for this, but the radar beeped at your package and here am I
with an NMU intent...:-)

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for b2evolution in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

Of course, an upload made by you would even be better...:-)

Such changes are always harmless, which explains why I safely consider
building NMU's for such issues even though they're obviously non critical.

The schedule for the NMU (in case it happens, that is if you agree with it
or if I don't receive any answer in 10 days) is roughly the following:

Thursday, March 25, 2010 : send this notice
Monday, March 29, 2010 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
this can happen earlier if the maintainer agrees
In such case, the deadlines below will also
 happen earlier
Sunday, April 04, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Monday, April 05, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Monday, April 12, 2010 : NMU reaches incoming

If you intent to upload yourself, please notify me so that I interrupt
the process on my side. Please also don't upload without a discussion
with me. Some translators might send a few new translations and I can handle
a round of translation updates for you. Really, don't upload silently...:-)

In case I upload an NMU, I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for
b2evolution and follow its life for 60 days after my NMU in order to fix
any issue potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

If you'd rather do the fix yourself, I will of course leave the package
alone. Same if you have reasons not to do the update now.

vega david ~ $ fgrep -q -i foobar /tmp/test

vega david ~ $ LC_CTYPE=C fgrep -q -i foobar /tmp/test

I realize that foobar\251\n is not a well-formed utf-8 text file, so
fgrep is basically allowed to send daemons flying through my nose, but
I still think it is very wrong that fgrep -i foobar should not match a
file, be it binary, be it in a utf-8 locale, somehow containing the
string foobar, especially as fgrep foobar and egrep -i foobar (and
egrep foobar) all match.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=575300

Could someone please try to reproduce the bug above with grep 2.6.

Description: Library and tools to read PST, PFF, OFF and OST files.

Libpff is a library and a set of tools to read PST, PFF, OFF and OST files.
Those files are used essentially by Microsoft Outlook.
Libff is able to convert those files in universally readble text files
and extract binary attached files.
This tool is very useful for forensic purpose.

Bug#575360: aptitude: does not show manually-upgradeable packages

2010-03-25 Thread Yann Dirson
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.11-1~lenny1
Severity: wishlist

When some non-automatic source is selected (backports, experimental,
etc.), aptitude does not currently tell the user that a new version is
available. One has to use external hacks, like the following:

$ apt-show-versions|grep manual
redmine/lenny-backports *manually* upgradeable from 0.9.1-1~bpo50+1 to
0.9.3-1~bpo50+1

It would be much more friendlier to list those packages, eg. a special
manually upgradeable section

Bug#573947: plymouth-set-default-PLUGIN vs. plymouth-set-default-THEME

2010-03-25 Thread Christian Meyer

use_update_initrd.patch
Description: Binary data
tags 573947 + patch
thanks

Looking in the source I found that the script plymouth-set-default-PLUGIN is
not in plymouth_0.7.2.orig.tar.gz .

plymouth_0.7.2-4.diff.gz contains the file and you fixed #573947 in
plymouth-set-default-PLUGIN, which IMO

is obsolete (but I don't know if it's needed anywhere).

I add a patch that calls 'update-initrd -u' from plymouth-set-default-THEME
instead of 'plymouth-update-initrd'.

I have seen that plymouth-0.8.0 adds an '--help' option so it's not neccessary
to fix this issue here.

Bug#563551: usb-modeswitch: Disconnect the Huawei E220 3G USB modem

2010-03-25 Thread Josua Dietze

The problem seems to start here:

18:52:24 cthulhu kernel: devkit-disks-da[6011]: segfault at c ip
080660da sp bfb85410 error 4 in devkit-disks-daemon[8048000+28000]

It looks like the modem was reset after the crash, falling back to
storage mode and being switched again. This happens several times in
your log.

Did you update your kernel as well? There is a firmware bug in some
Huawei models which was exposed by kernel 2.6.31.2; IIRC a workaround
was implemented with 2.6.31.5.
It causes the modem to reset as soon as the storage (card reader or
pseudo CD-ROM present *after* switching) is accessed.

The CD access problem you report points definitely into that direction.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done from usb_modeswitch's
side.

Bug#575343: Precautionary checks slow boot excessively

2010-03-25 Thread Elliott Mitchell
From: ty...@mit.edu
If you are mounting the file system read-only, feel free to change the
fsck pass number in /etc/fstab to be 0. That will cause e2fsck to be
 skipped completely.

Wrong behavior. The desire here is not to disable checks due to being on
read-only media, but the filesystem is much less likely to incur damage
due to normally being read-only. The best example is /usr and sometimes
/, where it is *very* important to catch errors, but not all that likely
to incur them.

Note that mount count is randomized these days, to try to avoid
multiple file systems from being checked in a single boot.

Which is why I wasn't writing about the mount count. I was writing about
the check interval/check time. With systems that reboot less than once a
month, the mount count will never be reached. Instead it will be the
check interval and worse yet, with infrequent reboots, *all* of the check
intervals will expire at once (even if they start spaced out, they will
tend to merge together).

Also feel free to disable the precautionary checks if you don't want
to use it using tune2fs(8). If you are confident that your hardware
is perfect, and hard drive will never corrupt your metadata blocks,
the precautionary checks can easily be dsiabled.

I'm not. I'm pointing out the behavior needs more refinement.

The code handling the diversion in these scripts is years old, and I

2010-03-25 Thread Willi Mann
reopen 556985
thanks

Further testing reveals that the bug still exists. The record extension
in the Xserver should be fixed now, so the bug is probably in the global
hotkeys plugin.

The above means that the X driver is using UMS whereas KMS is enabled in
the kernel. This results in a conflict for hardware access and cannot
work properly.

It's usually caused by the radeon kernel module being loaded too late.

Bug#575309: user-setup: Should stop adding first user to device access groups

I disagree with this proposed change. IMO the default group assignments are

I have three reasons to feel otherwise:

 1. IIRC, the reason for adding the initial user to groups has been to provide
a good desktop experience. See bugs #352713, #166718.
So worrying about the first account not having hardware access when not
at the desktop seems like scope creep.

I really appreciated being able to get things working without too much
hassle when I was a totally new user, and have often been asked by
inexperienced users why simple things do not work as expected on a new
installation. I am not involved in setting up more than small networks, and
I now demonstrate the differences between users, explain why I set up an
initial user account, then often create real users starting from a higher
UID with the same UIDs throughout the local network, finally deleting the
initial user account. If it is easy to add new users from a list it is also
easy to delete the first account when not required.

Bug#575363: [checks/init.d] init.d-script-sourcing-without-test test is too simple

2010-03-25 Thread Jérémie Corbier
Package: lintian
Version: 2.3.4
Severity: normal

Lintian complains that my init scripts do not test whether
/etc/default/wide-dhcpv6-* are available. Actually, they do but the lintian
test is too simple to catch that:

if [ ! -f /etc/default/wide-dhcpv6-relay ]; then

/etc/default/wide-dhcpv6-relay does not exist! - Aborting...
log_failure_msg \
Run 'dpkg-reconfigure wide-dhcpv6-relay' to solve the problem.
exit 1
else

It would be nice if this test could be a little smarter since its severity is
serious.

There is no reason for 1.9.1.8-6 to fail where 1.9.1.8-5 succeeded. Is
it possible to get stack traces when the builds are terminated this way,
 because it really doesn't help...

See, it didn't fail again on kfreebsd-i386. You should give it a retry
on kfreebsd-amd64.

Bug#575367: newvserver: undocumented restriction on hostname

2010-03-25 Thread Yann Dirson
Package: vserver-debiantools
Version: 0.6.4

# newvserver --hostname a [...]
newvserver error: --hostname must be a hostname for the vserver

looking at what could be wrong with one-char hostnames, I am still
puzzled by the expression used with the case which deals with
hostname parsing.

If you insist on doing such a check (ie. you
really feel [a-z0-9]*([a-z0-9_]) is not enough), why not using
[a-z0-9]?(*([a-z0-9_])[a-z0-9]) ?

Bug#575369: proc library doesnt detect _FILE_OFFSET_BITS, results in partial process list

2010-03-25 Thread Erik Bernhardson
Package: procps
Version: 3.2.7-11

When using ps or top on a vps debian server pids 65535 do not display.

Recompiling procps with -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 solved this issue on that
particular machine. The errors source is a readdir() call in
readproc.c:simple_readproc(). I thought it might just be a quirk of the
machine, but since the ls application could correctly readdir() and find these
pids i thought the ps command should be able to as well.

Bug#575370: BibTex file (C-c Tab in latex mode) fails (emacsbug#5562, fixed upstream)

2010-03-25 Thread Stefan Boresch

Package: emacs22
Version: 23.1+1.5

When running in LaTeX mode (the one coming with emacs itself, provided by
/usr/share/emacs/23.1/lisp/textmodes/tex-mode.elc, *not* AucTex!!),
the command tex-bibtex-file (keyboard shortcut C-c Tab) fails as
the tex-shell erroneously goes in the home directory instead of the
working directory, so the *.aux file is not found.

See http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=5562

The bug is already fixed in the 'trunk' version of emacs (the one that
gets pulled by default via bzr). Making the textmodes/tex-mode.el file
from 'trunk' compile and substitute the resulting
textmodes/tex-mode.elc file for the one coming with the debian
package, the problem is gone and tex-bibtex-file behaves as in earlier

Bug#575365: sqlobject: New version available

2010-03-25 Thread Fabio Tranchitella
Hi Andreas,

I've lost interest in sqlobject, as I currently use SQLAlchemy, and I've
orphaned it. I think a simple rebuild is enough for the new upstream
release.

Best regards,
Fabio

 Hi,

 at

http://pypi.python.org/pypi/SQLObject

versions 0.11.4 and 0.12.2 are listed but Debian has only 0.11. I would
need version = 0.12 ro be able to update the epigrass package which I
would like to do soon to meet the freeze deadline.

Please tell me if you want me if you need any help to upgrade the package
or if it is brain dead simple rebuild. If it needs more time I might try
 to help a bit.

Kind regards and thanks for maintaining sqlobject

some fields in db are e.g. flags very often so it is much easier to
analyse those fields if these are displayed in hex format. it would be
nice if flamerobin have possibility to switch display mode on selected

It's usually caused by the radeon kernel module being loaded too late.

With the latest sid kernel udev should load the module on boot. dmesg
would give a clue as to why that didn't happen here.

I do not know if this is correct anyway so the correct part of the

 Hello,

libocamlgraph-ocaml-dev doesn't provide dgraph.cmx any more, so that
frama-c currently FTBFS on sid systems. libocaml-graph-viewer-ocaml-dev
 should be depended on instead.

Yes. That's planned. libocaml-graph-viewer-ocaml-dev is only 2 days old.
I thought I have more time to update Frama-c :) Note that Why and alt-ergo
have been already updated.

Ok. It was just unfortunate that the hurd-i386 buildd hit building

Hi Holger et al (please drop -devel out of the list of CCs if you feel
this is getting off-topic),

sorry, but I find it unacceptable to close this bug referring to a
single paragraph in a (random) RFC [0]. However, there is a multitude
of other reasons why I think this bug *is* an issue:

- Sites with domain names like ker-.deviantart.com do already exist!
Do you think they should be accessible by any other proprietary
operating system, but not Debian? Not really!

- There is already an inconsistency among the different
implementations in Debian (or Linux as a whole), as e.g. ping and any
other program using gethostbyname() fail to resolv, whereas nslookup
and host succeed.

- The advice in the cited RFC is already ignored. Domain names that
start with a digit, e.g. 12345.foo.bar, can be resolved, whereas the
RFC tells us They [labels] must start with a letter, end with a
letter or digit [...]. So let's just relax the rules in the RFC (they
are only recommendations after all) a bit more to also allow hyphens
as border characters in labels. It doesn't harm anyone, it just
enables us to resolv a few more actual domain names!

For further discussion, please see the bug reports opened against
ubuntu [1] and upstream [2]:

[1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/glibc/+bug/144431
[2] http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=4671

Technically speaking, what IMHO needs to be done is to allow
hyphenchar as a borderchar in resolv/res_comp.c in eglibc. Please find
my patch below (and while we are at at, why not allow underscorechar
as well?).

Cheers,
Fabian

[0] There are even other RFCs that either relax or contradict against
the advice of RFC 1035 (thanks Christoph Loehr, who could even write a
short essay about this):

RFC 1178:

Don't use digits at the beginning of the name.

Many programs accept a numerical internet address as well as a
name. Unfortunately, some programs do not correctly
distinguish between the two and may be fooled, for example, by
a string beginning with a decimal digit.

Names consisting entirely of hexadecimal digits, such as
beef, are also problematic, since they can be interpreted
entirely as hexadecimal numbers as well as alphabetic strings.

  Don't use non-alphanumeric characters in a name.
[...]
Don't expect case to be preserved.
[...]

This is a mitigation of RFC 1035, as there is no mention of hyphen
characters at all.

RFC 952:

No blank or space characters are permitted as part of a name. No
distinction is made between upper and lower case. The first character
must be an alpha character. The last character must not be a minus
sign or period. A host which serves as a GATEWAY should have
-GATEWAY or -GW as part of its name. Hosts which do not serve as
Internet gateways should not use -GATEWAY and -GW as part of their
names. A host which is a TAC should have -TAC as the last part of
its host name, if it is a DoD host. Single character names or
nicknames are not allowed.

this is contradictory, since there is c.psi.net, which is resolved by
gethostbyname().

RFC 1123:

The syntax of a legal Internet host name was specified in RFC-952
[DNS:4]. One aspect of host name syntax is hereby changed: the
restriction on the first character is relaxed to allow either a letter
or a digit. Host software MUST support this more liberal syntax.

This is clearly another mitigation of RFC 1035.

Bug#575332: virtualbox-ose-qt linked against libqt libraries from experimental.

2010-03-25 Thread Peter Fritzsche
Not only when you use stuff from experimental. It is always a good idea to use
sbuild or pbuilder/cowbuilder to build your packages before uploading. This is
even the case when the binary packages will be stripped from uploads in the
future, because you easily see missing dependencies locally.

Just install cowbuilder, run `sudo cowbuilder --create` and then start a build
with a script similar to

#! /bin/sh
set -e
ID=`/usr/bin/id -nu`
GROUP=`/usr/bin/id -ng`
/bin/rm -rf $HOME/to_upload/
sudo /usr/sbin/cowbuilder --update
sudo /usr/sbin/cowbuilder --build --buildresult $HOME/to_upload $@
sudo /bin/chown $ID:$GROUP -R $HOME/to_upload
cd $HOME/to_upload
/usr/bin/debsign *.changes

(don't forget to change the key-id in debsign). You should add your key id to
~/.devscripts:

DEBSIGN_KEYID=12345678

And you may speedup cowbuilder startup using following entries in
~/.pbuilderrc (it will share the apt archives with the host rootfs):

BINDMOUNTS=/var/cache/apt/archives
APTCACHE=

Adding debuild options will still work. For example if you have a -2 version
and want to add the source to the tarball then call the script the following
way (I just say that it is called buildme and can be found in your $PATH):

build-sponsor mypackage_1.0-2.dsc --debbuildopts -sa

You'll need to reassemble it, of course, but then the problem should
not occur anymore. Hence removing the found tag.

I have rebooted, went into broken state (as above), so I have done as you said:

# /etc/init.d/mdadm-raid stop
# /etc/init.d/mdadm-raid start
# vgchange -ay
# mount -a

(the mdadm-raid start does a mdadm --assemble --scan).

But on the next reboot, I go in broken state again.

Do I need to update-initramfs?

Bug#575376: xvfb: Renders garbage in some cases on s390

2010-03-25 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: xvfb
Version: 2:1.7.5.902-1
Severity: normal

xulrunner reftests ended with 62 failures on s390, which are to be attributed to
xvfb rendering garbage in some cases.

The reftests are run through xvfb-run, and while we could think the problem may
lie on xulrunner end, several tests validated the problem to be on xvfb end:
- Running the reftests on a s390 with a remote X display on my laptop works
- Running the reftests on my laptop with a remote Xvfb on the s390 fails

An easily reproducible testcase is attached here. Just untar, and run the
following (you obviously need xulrunner-1.9.1 on your machine, and to export
a s390 xvfb display):
$ xulrunner-1.9.1 mybrowser-0.2.2/application.ini

The attached screenshot is how it looks like then (taken with xwd). The
background is supposed to be white (just take a look at what is displayed when
using a local X server)

Mike

PS: Just in case, I also tried with libgl1-mesa-dri installed, and it doesn't
change the rendering.

I'm afraid what I've got is very primitive at the moment. But here it is:

ipv6-pppoe-2:~# cat /etc/ppp/ipv6-up.d/dhcpv6
#!/bin/sh
## this should probably be triggered by the RA managed flag, but how?
dhcp6c -D -P default $PPP_IFACE

ipv6-pppoe-2:~# cat /etc/ppp/ipv6-down.d/dhcpv6
#!/bin/sh
dhcp6ctl stop

As you can see, this assumes that dhcp6c is started and stopped with
every ppp interface up/down event.

This is a workaround for bug #561949. The scripts should probably just
call /etc/wide-dhcpv6/dhcp6c-ifupdown with the appropriate MODE and
IFACE=$PPP_IFACE once that bug is fixed.

With the latest sid kernel udev should load the module on boot. dmesg
would give a clue as to why that didn't happen here.

If you mean loading in the initrd, I think there's still a bug with the
firmware not being present.

It looks like the modem was reset after the crash, falling back to
storage mode and being switched again. This happens several times in
 your log.

Hi,

If it comes from devkit-disks-daemon is probably related to bug #561707,
upgrade to devicekit-disks 009-3 should correct this bug. I'll try.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done from usb_modeswitch's
 side.

I compile my kernel by hand for quite some years. :o)

I will compile and test the latest 2.6.33.

Bug#556131: pkg-voip status? OpenSIPS ITP status?

2010-03-25 Thread Paul Wise
Hi all,

Starting next week my paid work will involve some VoIP stuff, including
running OpenSIPS on Debian servers. I'm wondering what the status of the
OpenSIPS ITP is? Also, probably OpenSER should be removed from Debian
after squeeze since OpenSIPS is one of the replacements for it?

In addition I'd like to join the pkg-voip team to help maintain it,
asterisk and other VoIP stuff. I notice on the pkg-voip qareport.cgi
there are quite a few pkg-voip packages that have open RC bugs, what is
the status of the pkg-voip team?

Bug#575378: logcheck-database: ignore.d.server/nfs does not allow underscore in mount points

2010-03-25 Thread G. T. Laycock
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.2.68
Severity: minor

This is also present in the current squeeze/sid version 1.3.7

For weeks I have been slowly driven mad by logcheck continually
reporting innocuous nfs mount/umount events and I could not see why
they were not being removed by the nfs ignore rules.

Finally I spotted the issue: the mount path listed in the log message
contains an underscore, so doesn't quite match the regexp. Attached is
the very simple patch that allows [._[:alnum:]-]* in path elements.

Bug#569945: hercules: produces a disconcerting whine

2010-03-25 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Hi Peter,

The only news I can add to this is a workaround: make sure that
hercules is always busy.

As long as the emulator is chugging away, it is very quiet. It
is only when it is idle that it gets loud.

If you can think of a simple task to distinguish between CPU-bound
and I/O-bound processes for this purpose (or some other way to
narrow the problem down), I’ll be glad to try it out.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Bug#516294: klibc sys/resource.h now more broken than ever

protected from user space
severity -1 normal
thanks

Hi,

with 1.5.17 you chose to make /usr/lib/klibc/include/linux a symbolic
link… congratulations, you just made the situation worse.

I tried to fix it with the following approach:
• on build time, replace the 「#include linux/resource.h」 with
the actual file, sans the bogus prototype
• add the correct prototype below

Of course, this now breaks if linux/resource.h is included by a
programme before sys/resource.h:

│In file included from
/tmp/buildd/klibc-1.5.17/usr/klibc/../include/sys/wait.h:11,

declaration of 'getrusage' was here
│make[4]: *** [usr/klibc/wait.o] Error 1

Of course, the *correct* fix would be to protect the prototype,
for example like this:

--- /usr/include/linux/resource.h 2010-03-17 20:44:47.0 +
+++ resource.h  2010-03-25 11:24:43.0 +

  */
 #include asm/resource.h

+#ifdef __KERNEL__
 int getrusage(struct task_struct *p, int who, struct rusage *ru);

 #endif

This is why I split the bug.

(In case someone wonders, my goal is still to build mksh with klibc;
I have both static and shared, both -DMKSH_SMALL and full-featured
(almost) versions working with a patched 1.5.15 version… maybe we
could even replace klibc’s ash with it, after all Android has done
the same recently and mksh’s not much bigger but much better.)

Bug#575336: polyorb: Uses gnatmake -j4 when DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS parallel not set.

2010-03-25 Thread Ludovic Brenta

Policy 4.9.1 does not say how many parallel threads debian/rules should
use in the absence of DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS. By default, all my Ada
packages detect the number of cores in the build host and use one thread
per core. This is appropriate in all situations I have encountered so
far, especially for large packages like polyorb.

In the case of polyorb, I agree that hardcoding -j4 is not such a good
idea; not only because most Debian buildds have fewer than 4 cores but
also because most have insufficient memory to accommodate all 4 compiler
threads without swapping. Also when new build hosts with more than 4
cores and loads of RAM become common, the build would become suboptimal.

The hardcoded -j4 is from upstream; we whould patch it so that debian/rules
tells it how many threads to use. Also debian/rules should use one thread
per core by default and the number of threads specified in
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS if specified.

Note to Kurt: my home machine has 2 cores but Xavier routinely uses 4- or
8-core boxes; I don't recall about Reto but I suspect he has similarly
large machines :)

Would it be possible to implement it in Debian?

If needed, I could help on testing if someone could guide me on how to

which tries to link to /usr/lib/libethos-ui-1.0.so
it fails with file not found, since the symlink target
was not pulled in because of the missing dependency.

Bug#405762:

2010-03-25 Thread Stas Sușcov
I got a patched version in my ppa.
https://edge.launchpad.net/~sushkov/+archive/ppa

Also searching existing ppa's can bring you patched version 2.
https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?name_filter=alpine

Thanks to the author, though having the code licensed could save me some
time.

Bug#575385: Thunar: Disable execution

2010-03-25 Thread Torquil Macdonald Sørensen
Package: Thunar
Version: 1.0.1-3
Severity: wishlist

An option within the Thunar preferences to disable any execution of script and
binaries would be nice. Right now my Thunar executes shell scripts, even though
I have configured *.sh files to be opened in a text editor by right clicking,
selecting Open in other application, choosing a text editor, and then
selecting
Use as default for this kind of file.

Best regards

Bug#567528: python-kde4: Uninstallable package due to unfulfilled dependency

2010-03-25 Thread Michael Prokop
* Philipp Huebner debala...@debian.org [Mon Mar 08, 2010 at 09:46:33AM +0100]:

please fix this bug, it really freaks me out.

I can't use plasma applets that need plasma-scriptengine-python, my own
package kanyremote is uninstallable, and more.

And how did you manage to create this:
python-kde4: Depends: python-sip4 (= none) but 4.10-2 is to be
 installed

 I've never seen that before.

This bug is still present. Any news from the maintainer(s)?

regards,
-mika-

Bug#550912: packages for emerillon 0.1.1

2010-03-25 Thread Andreas Henriksson
I've updated my packages to emerillon 0.1.1, available here:
http://fatal.se/tmp/pkg-emerillon/emerillon_0.1.1-1.dsc
or for the binary:
http://fatal.se/tmp/pkg-emerillon/emerillon_0.1.1-1_amd64.deb

(Please beware of http://bugs.debian.org/575384 and make sure
libethos-ui-1.0-0 is installed in your build environment.)

It would be nice to get a statup update for the emerillon ITP!
It seems people are currently standing in line to get this package
into Debian. I guess an ITP hijacking isn't far away...

Bug#472802: Status of limesurvey packaging (Was: Bug#472802: What's happening?)

2010-03-25 Thread Andreas Tille

On Tue, 23 Mar 2010, Nicolas Barcet wrote:

I am sorry, but since I have been failing getting this package in Debian,
without any reasons displayed or communicated,

What did you actually tried to get this package into Debian? Did you
asked for a sponsor? I have seen several people (including DDs)
interested but there was no such signal like I'm read with packaging,
it works, could somebody please test and upload.

I don't see any reason to
keep on updating this package except when I need to use it, which happens
about once or twice a year.

That's fair.

There is no reasons why this is not in collab-maint appart from the fact
that I don't have time to research how to get commit rights on it.

If I'm not missleaded you just need to ask for an alioth.debian.org
account. A short Google search leaded me to

   http://wiki.debian.org/Alioth/PackagingProject

which seems to be a good starting point.

So that you know, configurations files of limesurvey have never been
identical from one version to the other and I have always had to redo the
patches.

I guess that's a bit boring and makes maintenance harder - it would be
nice if somebody who really uses the package would take over maintenance.

Kind regards

   Andreas.
