Currently the package only builds support for the default python3 version.  As a
result, once the default version switches from python3 3.4 to 3.5, it will
be unusable until it can be rebuilt.  The best practice (as described in the
Debian Python policy) is to build for all supported versions.  Then whichever
is default, the package still works.  Additionally, this package doesn't use
the standard Python helper, dh-python, to generate proper dependencies.  Due
to that, it would not be detected as needing rebuild for the transition.

Please see the attached patch (formatted as an NMU because that's what
devscripts handed me, but I have no near term plans to NMU).  This makes the
package more generally conform to Python policy.

it seems Bastien has lost interest in this package.  It just popped up
in my sentinel of packages that are in the focus of Debian Med but not
uploaded for a long time.  If you have no idea how to maintain a package
I'd consider a "Mentoring of the Month"[1] for Debian Science.

Hi ftpmasters,

vtk6[1] is no new package.  It has just a new binary package.  Since
vtk6 is quite complex and we need a lot of testing of its dependencies
we are even now short in time for the Jessie freeze.  It would help a
lot if you could accept it for unstable.

following test failure occurred:

As for sponsoring:  If you have a sponsor that's fine.  If you want me
to sponsor your package I would do this from the Git repository.
Unfortunately your repository layout is different from what is used in
all teams I know.  You are using branches for releases instead of tags.
That's very unusual.

sumo (0.23.0+dfsg1-2) FTBFS due to missing compatibility with

the transition to GDAL 1.11.3 (#80) needs to start first. This issue
was triaged using locally built GDAL 2.0.1 packages from the
experimental-2.0 branch in git [1].

We did. It's just wrong metadata, which should be fixed upstream
soon. There may have been an LGPL file once but there certainly isn't
any more. It's probably just confusion (also seen in
ros-python-qt-binding which incorrectly listed the licence-types of python 
modules
_used_ by the package in package.xml).  The debian/copyright file is
correct.
