Bug#1038763: RFP: portmidi2 -- PortMidi - Cross-Platform MIDI IO
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-Cc: Paul Brossier , debian-multime...@lists.debian.org * Package name: portmidi2 Version : 2.0.4 Upstream Author : Ross Bencina and Phil Burk, Roger B. Dannenberg * URL : https://github.com/PortMidi/PortMidi * License : Expat Programming Lang: C Description : PortMidi - Cross-Platform MIDI IO PortMidi is a Cross-Platform MIDI IO that supports both real and virtual midi input and output devices. I recently learned that future releases of Hydrogen Drum Kit (v1.3.x series) will depend on the new PortMIDI series. The most recent stable release of Hydrogen (1.2.1) depends on portmidi >=2; however, it's still easy to patch Hydrogen to use Portmidi 217 To be honest, I'm not sure if a new source package will be required, but I'm supposing that it will be necessary because we've had portaudio "217" since 2016, and I assume that there will be many breaking changes. If this is not the case, please reasign this bug to src:portmidi and make it a standard request for new upstream version. Regards, Nicholas

It searches the Built-Using and Static-Built-Using fields in a source control file for substitutions of variables names like dh-builtusing:x, looks for x in build-dependencies, then defines the variable with the source package and version for x. . In other words, it replaces the call to dpgk-query that each package or debhelper tool has to duplicate for the Built-Using field. The dh_builtusing.pod manual page contains a full description. In Debian there is no one correct way of doing things. It's just a matter of taste and preferences. The git packaging conventions used by the ruby team are tried and tested and in my opinion pretty elegant. Anyways this seems like a good start. Best, Abraham
