Bug#1038763: RFP: portmidi2 -- PortMidi - Cross-Platform MIDI IO

2023-06-20 Thread Nicholas D Steeves
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-Cc: Paul Brossier ,
debian-multime...@lists.debian.org

* Package name: portmidi2
  Version : 2.0.4
Upstream Author : Ross Bencina and Phil Burk, Roger B. Dannenberg
* URL : https://github.com/PortMidi/PortMidi
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : PortMidi - Cross-Platform MIDI IO

PortMidi is a Cross-Platform MIDI IO that supports both real and
virtual midi input and output devices.

I recently learned that future releases of Hydrogen Drum Kit (v1.3.x
series) will depend on the new PortMIDI series. The most recent
stable release of Hydrogen (1.2.1) depends on portmidi >=2; however,
it's still easy to patch Hydrogen to use Portmidi 217

To be honest, I'm not sure if a new source package will be required,
but I'm supposing that it will be necessary because we've had
portaudio "217" since 2016, and I assume that there will be many
breaking changes. If this is not the case, please reasign this bug to
src:portmidi and make it a standard request for new upstream version.

Regards,
Nicholas

Description : simpler API for the popular Cobra CLI

So, Cobra (https://github.com/spf13/cobra) is a Go CLI library with a
feature set that's hard to resist for bigger applications
(autocompletion, docs and man pages auto generation etc.). But it's also
complex to use beyond the simplest of applications. This package was
built to help rewriting Hugo's (https://github.com/gohugoio/hugo)
commands package to something that's easier to understand and maintain.

Reason for packaging: Needed by hugo v0.112.0 and up

This is a simple Go library to make it possible to run mkcert's
 (https://github.com/FiloSottile/mkcert) main method.
 .
The script that updates the internal package does no logic changes to
 the source; it simply
 .
  1. Renames the main package to internal.
  2. Renames the main func to RunMain
  3. Replaces any log.Fatal with panic to allow us to handle the errors.
  4. Exports getCAROOT().
 .
For more advanced library usage, see this issue
 (https://github.com/FiloSottile/mkcert/issues/45).

Description : Data Access Monitoring Operator

damo is a user space tool for DAMON. Using this, you can monitor the data access
patterns of your system or workloads and make data access-aware memory
management optimizations.

 - what it does: https://sjp38.github.io/post/damon/ -- basically you
can optimize how the kernel manages memory based on how often pages
   are accessed
 - recent LWN article: https://lwn.net/Articles/931769/
 - Will be maintained as part of the Debian Python Team. I am a Debian
Maintainer so this will need an initial sponsor.

Description : debhelper tool generating the Built-Using field for Debian
packages

This tool may help maintainers of Debian packages by generating parts
of the Built-Using dependencies at build time.
.
It searches the Built-Using and Static-Built-Using fields in a source
control file for substitutions of variables names like
dh-builtusing:x, looks for x in build-dependencies, then defines the
variable with the source package and version for x.
.
In other words, it replaces the call to dpgk-query that each package
or debhelper tool has to duplicate for the Built-Using field.

The dh_builtusing.pod manual page contains a full description.
The log for #689062 contains the original discussion.

Bug#1038726: ITP: qatlib -- Intel(R) QuickAssist Technology hardware accelleration for security authentication and compression

* Package name: qatlib
  Version : 23.02.0

Description : Intel(R) QuickAssist Technology hardware
accelleration for security authentication and compression

Intel(R) QuickAssist Technology (Intel(R) QAT) provides hardware
acceleration for offloading security, authentication and compression
services from the CPU, thus significantly increasing the performance
and efficiency of standard platform solutions.

Its services include symmetric encryption and authentication, asymmetric
encryption, digital signatures, RSA, DH and ECC, and lossless data
compression.

It provides user space libraries that allow access to Intel(R)
QuickAssist devices and expose the Intel(R) QuickAssist APIs and sample
codes.

See also: https://wiki.debian.org/QAT

I intend to maintain this much like other Intel related Debian packages

Sincerely,

Colin Ian King

In Debian there is no one correct way of doing things. It's just a
matter of taste and preferences. The git packaging conventions used by
the ruby team are tried and tested and in my opinion pretty elegant.

Anyways this seems like a good start.

I don't think there is a licensing issue.

It is the specifics of the d/copyright file I produced. Please see the
RFS bug for details.

Will take a look. Thanks.

I have created a zig-team namespace on salsa and I've invited you there.
We can move the packaging work there as it will make it easier for
potential contributors to find it.

I joined it.

Great let's get the zig package there.

Also is there any particular reason you are only committing the debian
directory?

That is all that exists in the repo. Builds are done by downloading the
source with uscan with the info from the d/watch file. I did try to look
into keeping upstream in the same repo but I didn't find a clear path
forward. So I just stuck with what I am currently doing since it works
and from the documentation I have read is not "incorrect". If you could
recommend specific documentation for this I can have a look.

I do find the ruby team's approach to be very nice here. Adding link to
a sample ruby package for reference[0]. The approach is to keep the

upstream files and tar ball deltas in separate branches (upstream and
pristine-tar). The tooling makes maintaining this pretty seamless.

I don't think there is a licensing issue.

It is the specifics of the d/copyright file I produced. Please see the
RFS bug for details.

That would be nice.

Adding the correction here too: https://salsa.debian.org/nickh/zig

I joined it.

Cheers,

Nick.

Bug#995670: What's the status of this ITP?

What exactly is the roadblock? Is it just a matter of going through each
of the files and adding the entries? Or is there a licensing issue here?
Asking because for the first we can always try and get more people to
help out.

I have created a zig-team namespace on salsa and I've invited you there.
We can move the packaging work there as it will make it easier for
potential contributors to find it.

Also is there any particular reason you are only committing the debian
directory?

Bug#959145: Done with this

2023-06-20 Thread Ben Westover
Control: title -1 RFP: protonmail-bridge -- Proton Mail Bridge for e-mail
clients.

I've given up packaging this; there are too many weird dependencies
which I don't have the Go experience to handle, and the source for the
actual Bridge is a mess to package. Even before trying to package this
program, I couldn't get it to build on architectures other than amd64,
which is kind of unacceptable.

Thanks,
