Bug#997892: ITP: vsomeip -- Scalable service-Oriented MiddlewarE over IP (SOME/IP)

2021-10-26 Thread Al Nikolov

* Package name: vsomeip
  Version : 3.1.20
  Upstream Author : Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft (BMW AG)
* URL : https://github.com/GENIVI/vsomeip
* License : MPL-2.0
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Scalable service-Oriented MiddlewarE over IP (SOME/IP)

vsomeip stack implements the http://some-ip.com/
(Scalable service-Oriented MiddlewarE over IP (SOME/IP)) protocol.
The stack consists out of:
* a shared library for SOME/IP (libvsomeip3.so)
* a second shared library for SOME/IP's service discovery (libvsomeip3-sd.so)
which is loaded during runtime if the service discovery is enabled.

SOME/IP is an automotive middleware solution that can be used for control
messages. It was designed from beginning on to fit devices of different sizes
and different operating systems perfectly. This includes small devices like
cameras, AUTOSAR devices, and up to head units or telematics devices. It was
also made sure that SOME/IP supports features of the Infotainment domain as
well as that of other domains in the vehicle, allowing SOME/IP to be used for
MOST replacement scenarios as well as more traditional CAN scenarios.

AFAIK, there's no alternative implementations in Debian.

I intend to maintain it as part of my job contract.
No sponsorship would be required.

Smack is an open source, highly modular, easy to use, XMPP client library
written in Java for Java SE compatible JVMs and Android.

A pure Java library, it can be embedded into your applications to create
anything from a full XMPP instant messaging client to simple XMPP integrations
such as sending notification messages and presence-enabling devices. Smack and
XMPP allows you to easily exchange data, in various ways e.g. fire-and-forget,
publish-subscribe, between human and non-human endpoints (M2M, IoT, …).

This package has been RFP: #779110, #640873. It's also in the dependecy chain
of VASSAL Engine I'm up to packaging.

Bug#889614: ITP: libwizard-java -- Wizards API

2018-02-04 Thread Al Nikolov
Package: wnpp

* Package name: libwizard-java
  Version : 1.0.0
  Upstream Author : Tim Boudreau
* URL : https://github.com/karchie/Wizard
* License : CDDL
  Programming Lang: Java
  Description : Wizards API

Provides a simple API and UI for Wizards, a commonly used UI pattern in GUI
interfaces. Traditionally, everybody has needed to write their own
Wizards from scratch, and such code is painful and hard to get right.

This library aims to provide a simple, relatively bulletproof API
for writing Wizards. The UI for Wizards is pluggable; the default
implementation conforms to the JLF usability guidelines for Wizards.

This library was originally designed as a replacement for NetBeans' Wizard API,
and takes into account the long history
of that API and issues encountered with it over the years. It provides a
simple, easy-to-use solution that enables any Swing application to provide
Wizards with a minimum of code and effort.

This library (albeit being abandonware) would be needed for VASSAL engine
integration. Similar functionality can be provided by Netbeans, but the
API is radically different.

I'm going to maintain it by myself, not much of activity is spotten on
the upstream.

I intend to orphan the nixstatsagent package.

Reason is, my personal relations with the upstream went akward.

 This software is an OS-agnostic agent.
 It’s been optimized to have a very small CPU footprint and comes with
 an extendable set of useful plugins.

That's actually a good point, I should make it be configurable.
Hopefully, this won't cause rejection from NEW.

I believe, lots of software in Debian main don't make any sense for many
users even being completely standalone or functioning along a free
service? I'm glad that Debian Policy isn't restricting nor addressing
this at all (so far) -- makes a huge sense to me.

Thanks for a good point.

This is only partially true: nothing is preventing anyone to create
their own service and reuse the same client software.

This software meets all criteria of Section 2.2.1 of Debian Policy, as
far as I'm concerned. Your suggestion that it should belong to contrib
is most probably based on a wrong assumption that it "requires software
outside of the distribution to either build or function" -- it doesn't.
Moreover, it doesn't require to use any service at all and can function
without reporting any data gathered to anywhere but to standard
output/journal.

  Description : views modules for Drupal 6

 The Views module provides a flexible method for Drupal site designers
 to control how lists and tables of content (nodes in Views 1, almost
 anything in Views 2) are presented. Traditionally, Drupal has
 hard-coded most of this, particularly in how taxonomy and tracker
 lists are formatted.
 .
 This tool is essentially a smart query builder that, given enough
 information, can build the proper query, execute it, and display the
 results. It has four modes, plus a special mode, and provides an
 impressive amount of functionality from these modes.
 .
 Among other things, Views can be used to generate reports, create
 summaries, and display collections of images and other content.
 .
 You need Views if:
 .
  * You like the default front page view, but you find you want to
sort it differently.
  * You like the default taxonomy/term view, but you find you want to
sort it differently; for example, alphabetically.
  * You use /tracker, but you want to restrict it to posts of a
certain type.
  * You like the idea of the 'article' module, but it doesn't display
articles the way you like.
  * You want a way to display a block with the 5 most recent posts of
some particular type.
  * You want to provide 'unread forum posts'.
  * You want a monthly archive similar to the typical Movable
Type/Wordpress archives that displays a link to the in the form of
Month, (X) where X is the number of posts that month, and
displays them in a block. The links lead to a simple list of
posts for that month.
 .
 Views can do a lot more than that, but those are some of the obvious
 uses of Views.

  Description : statspro modules for Drupal 6

 The Statistics Pro module creates statistics with aggregated data. The
 data is stored in a new table, which will be updated with a cron run.
 This statistic module provides statistical results of nodes, comments
 and users. Aggregated statistical data from nodes, comments and users
 are stored even if the access log table or the watchdog table have
 been deleted. For presenting the data the Views is used. When
 Statistics Pro detects the core Statistics module, the Charts and
 Graphs module or the Views Charts module it enables specific features
 dependent on each one of these modules like page visualization reports
 and graphs. This module is not a replacement for the core Statistics
 module but an useful enhancement.
 .
 Features
 .
  * Customizable views
  * Aggregated values for nodes, changed nodes, nodes of a term,
comments, new users, users online, page impressions, warnings and errors
  * Views 2 support
  * Drush support: implements the statspro command which provides
command line access the the values above
  * Localization: English and Brazilian Portuguese
  * Advanced Help documentation
  * statistics about all watchdog levels.
  * custom X days period for extra flexibility.
  * support for path aggregated reports.
  * period definition support through URL for 'Overview' and 'Path
aggregated' reports.

 Features:
  * Send and receive pingbacks
  * Enable pingbacks per content type
  * Send pingbacks on node creation or on cron (in case you post many links
and want to queue up the pingbacks)

 Unlike the trackback module for Drupal, this module register pingbacks as
 comments. You can manage received pingbacks using the normal comment pages.
 The one drawback to this approach is that anonymous users must be able to

The Lightbox2 module is a simple, unobtrusive script used to overlay images on

Description : Goban screensaver

 The short description should not include the package name, maybe
 something like:
   screen saver replaying games of Go

I haven't mentioned the name of the program, just the object on the screen.
But i agree to use your proposed short description.

  Replays historical games of go (aka wei-chi and baduk) on the screen.

 The long description could/should also mention:
 - that it's a screen-saver.

If this is mentioned in the short description?

 - that it is Designed to work with xscreensaver and Gnome.

I don't think it should be linked with Gnome somehow. Xscreensaver is almost
standard part of every usual desktop installation, at least for Gnome/KDE,
and it is in Required.

 - which historical games of go are replayed? (the game played
   using cgoban, right?)

Well, no. Actually the original source tarball is consisting of some set of
historic games which can be easily extended/replaced by user.

If such a package is installed on the server, then every Drupal instance would

language adding (first-time enabling) trough WUI.

 This is my only point: since the data need to be installed using a browser,
 should the admin install the package on his client machine or on the

I see the benefit of such kind of bootstrapping package since this process:

- manually unpacking the tarball

That's why packages have been invented for, haven't they?

inactive maintenance

2007-06-17 Thread Al Nikolov
Hello, wnpp

I'm wondering if there is a practice to force package to be orphaned in a case
of chronic lack of maintenance?

Perhaps, for some package there was no maintainer activity for several years,
but only NMU's, wich purpose was not to fix some critical bugs but just to
update a very old software version.

The situation is even worse: the maintainer is popping up from time to time
and permitting to do a NMU with so much changes in the package. In result,
there is possible to upload to 'experimental' keeping all old technical
garbage and crooks and not to improve the packaging quality.

Should exist some way to fix that.

  Description : tournament processing library

 libtour is a generic tournament processing library written in
 C++. Rules, teams and schedule of a tournament are defined in the
 Scheme programming language (Guile) and given to the library as
 input. What makes libtour generic is the fact that it only expects
 the structure of a tournament be described, and does not know anything
 else about it. Therefore it is possible to make libtour interpret
 virtually any sporting tournament.
 .
 Scheme language seems a perfect choice for tournament definitions as it
 allows to easily intermix data and processing logic. Guile interpreter
 packaged as a library (libguile) makes it simple to mix C and Scheme
 function calls. Many thanks to the people who made Guile happen.

 In what language? How does an average user is supposed to know what the
 «ru» suffix means?

1. This is ISO country code for Russia
2. For a precedence look at cfi-sv and cfi-en packages, available in stable,
testing and unstable.
3. This is a language coding schema quite widely using elsewhere. See *-en,
*-es, *-de, *-fr and other packages.
