xdotool lets you programatically (or manually) simulate keyboard input
and mouse activity, move and resize windows, etc. It does this using
X11's XTEST extension and other Xlib functions.

I've already built and tested a package for this simple tool,
including writing a man page for it. The source for my packaging
 efforts is browsable at:

   http://cmrg.fifthhorseman.net/browser/trunk/xdotool

and can be checked out anonymously via svn:

   svn co http://cmrg.fifthhorseman.net/svn/trunk/xdotool

Shortly after i get the bug number for this ITP, i'll make a built
package available from an unofficial repo for anyone who wants to
 experiment with it.

Shouldn't APT prefer unstable?

You mean in general? i prefer to run this machine with testing, but
mix in a few packages from unstable:

[0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ cat /etc/apt/preferences
Package: *
Pin: release a=unstable
Pin-Priority: 200

Package: *
Pin: release a=experimental
Pin-Priority: 101

[0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$

Am i missing something? Should i not be pinning the repositories like
this? It's worked for me for years, afaict.

Thanks for the feedback,

and mouse activity, move and resize windows, etc. It does this using
X11's XTEST extension and other Xlib functions.

The xdotool package is now available (version 20071230-1) from my apt
repository. You'll need the following lines in /etc/apt/sources.list:

 deb http://cmrg.fifthhorseman.net/debian unstable xdotool
 deb-src http://cmrg.fifthhorseman.net/debian unstable xdotool

The repository is signed by my key. I welcome any feedback on the
packaging, as usual.

The package works for me, and builds lintian-clean fwict.

As i'm not a DD, i'll need a sponsor for this upload. However, i'm a
DM, so if you think this package is reasonable and i could continue to
upload new versions without trouble, i've set the
XS-Dm-Upload-Allowed: yes flag in debian/control.

Prospective sponsors who would prefer to upload without
DM-Upload-Allowed, please contact me before uploading. I'm fine with
such an upload, but i'd rather avoid having to nag sponsors for new
versions if possible.

Regards,
