Maybe leave this bug opened, and retitle it as a RFH? (it was the case before) -- Mathieu

Bug#814382: RFA: samba -- SMB/CIFS file, print, and login server for Unix
Control: tag -1 + pending So, should we add something like "pending" tag to this bug? ;) I'm in the process of helping with samba package maintenance for quite some time now... ;)) I come across this bug report because it popped up in tracker.d.o page for another package I maintain, with a warning "depends on a package which needs a new maintainer..".. :) /mjt

This is documented in debian/README.source Yeah, I've seen it. It just looks way too simple compared with other packages I maintain. I'm importing current 4.15 sources now. I asked maybe there are some other nuances which may pop up :) -- apparently not, things are as usual :) Let's try to keep the package in a good shape. Also, what are/were your plans wrt MR#56, "Build ldb from samba source" - is it ready to me merged? The less packages to maintain, the better :) It's not ready to be merged yet. At least sssd should build with it. Aha. Makes sense. sssd is another package which I do *not* use :) It looks like you're not a Debian developer. Do you plan to be? Hmm. https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?email=mjt%40tls.msk.ru ? :) Its been so long ago I don't remember when it happened. Maybe in 2008.. :) Thanks, /mjt

Ok. Let's try to step on this one. I grabbed the package from salsa, applied the fix for #1005642. it built okay (I use the fixed packages here for about a month already). Mathieu, can you please give me some little guide in importing the new upstream version, what is usually required, how did you done this before? Let's try to keep the package in a good shape. Also, what are/were your plans wrt MR#56, "Build ldb from samba source" - is it ready to me merged? The less packages to maintain, the better :) Thanks, /mjt

X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org X-Debbugs-CC: pkg-samba-ma...@lists.alioth.debian.org Hello everybody, I don't have the time to keep samba, cifs-utils and [related] packages in good shape, and I don't use it anymore as file server or AD/DC (I only use it as domain member and cifs client). [related] https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?email=pkg-samba-maint%40lists.alioth.debian.org A team with at least 2-3 members would smooth the process. Any help is appreciated. There is some bug triaging and packaging needed, but the packages are not far from common and recent packaging practices. You don't need to be an advanced packager and you don't need to know samba internals nor advanced configuration slots. The RFA bug: https://bugs.debian.org/814382 Regards -- Mathieu Parent

retitle 814382 RFA: samba -- SMB/CIFS file, print, and login server for Unix thanks Hi, I'm retitling this bug as "request for adoption", I don't have the time to keep this package in good shape, and I don't use it anymore as file server or AD/DC (I only use it as domain member and other client things). This RFA is also for other samba-related packages: https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?email=pkg-samba-maint%40lists.alioth.debian.org Regards -- Mathieu Parent
