Bug#229628: xserver-xfree86-dbg: 82845G/GL: Frequent crashes: `Fatal server error: lockup'

2007-01-30 Thread Eric Hanchrow
I haven't repro'd this recently, but I'm 85% sure that if I tried, it
would repro. It's pretty catastrophic (it forces me to reboot, iirc)
that I don't want to do so unless you really think it'd be helpful.

2007-01-30 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi Eric,

About 3 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding the
debug XFree86 server frequently crashing unless NoAccel is set. Did you
reproduce this problem recently? If not, I will close this bug in the
next weeks.

Thanks,
Brice

What do you prefer me to do? Keep open until you get a chance to try to
reproduce? Or close it with an invitation to reopen in case anybody ever
reproduces?

Since NoAccel makes the problem disappear, it is very likely related to
DRI and/or your board driver. Both got a lot of changes during the last
3 years. I would personally vote for 85% chance of not being able to
reproduce :)

Brice

Bug#229628: xserver-xfree86-dbg: 82845G/GL: Frequent crashes: `Fatal server error: lockup'

2004-01-25 Thread Eric Hanchrow
Package: xserver-xfree86-dbg
Version: 4.3.0-0pre1v5
Severity: important

This problem doesn't happen when I activate the `Option NoAccel
true' line (but then the server is too slow to use comfortably). I
cannot reproduce the problem reliably, but I've noticed these things:

* Once the problem happens, if I restart the X server (with
acceleration enabled), I see the mouse cursor, but not the typical
weave pattern on the root window; instead the background is black,
and the upper inch or so of the screen is garbage. I need to reboot
in order to get the accelerated X server to work

* The problem only started happening a week ago, after months of
working fine. But then the power failed, and the computer shut
down; the problem started appearing as soon as I turned the computer
back on. (As far as I can tell, my file system hasn't been
corrupted, but I don't know how to find out for sure -- there's
nothing in /lost+found, and the only messages that I saw from ext3
when it tried to recover were `23 orphan inodes deleted' on my root
  filesystem).

* The last time the problem happened -- and, I think, a few other
times -- was just after I'd switched VMware into full-screen mode.

Here's a stack trace:
