[Bug 180881] Re: Fonts in the GNOME login screen are disproportionately big

2008-03-21 Thread Jan Groenewald
Confirmed on Hardy.

The login screen, the user/password box cannot be read, it is too huge.
The options menu on the login screen cannot be closed once open or read.

Some pages in firefox have huge fonts (the page 2 3 4 5 6 links at the bottom
of a google search)
Galeon does not have this problem.

I just set the System -Appearance -Fonts- Details - DPI to 72 instead of
96, and firefox crashed.

It happens whethermy default SANS and SERIF is sans, freesans, bitstream
vera sans, dejavu sans, etc.

Setting about:config layout.css.dpi to 72 pr 96 in firefox fixes the
firefox fonts, except they look horrible

In /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/Human.xml I don't see any problem:
!-- password box -- has normal color=#00 font=Sans 12/
and
!-- bottom bar -- has item type=label
normal font=Sans 11 color=#ff/
prelight font=Sans 11 color=#ff9c36/
active font=Sans 11 color=#dc292b/
pos y=50% anchor=w/
stock type=options/

I'll try the gdm.conf fix in one thread above, but cannot log out of
this computer now, due to some foreground long running jobs

[Bug 196688] Re: GPM in Hardy seems to have a memory leak

I'm seeing this too in Debian/unstable (I dist-upgraded yesterday). It
happened twice after resuming from suspend. GPM was using a lot of RAM
and 122% of CPU :)

An additional problem I noticed was that I couldn't use my sound card
(e.g. XMMS said it's busy) until I killed GPM.

[Bug 204450] [NEW] Daylight saving in evolution / opensync

2008-03-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have installed libopensync0 + multisync0.90 + evolution and irmc
plugin. I have tried to synchronize with my Sony-Ericsson K800i (newest
firmware, set to correct time zone and Daylight saving, GMT+1, no
daylight saving at present (Denmark)).

Syncing goes fine with everything, except that all calender entries
after the 29th of March (the start of daylight saving in Denmark) are
one hour ahead if I make the entry on the cell phone and synchronize it
to Evolution. Entries before this date work fine syncing this way, and
syncing the other way around works fine with all dates.

If untick the Adjust for Daylight Saving Time option in Calenders and
Tasks in the Evolution settings, the problem goes away. I appears to
me, that this setting affects the dates as Evolution somehow wrongly
compensates for DST.

I am using an Ubuntu Hardy Heron (fully updated) 64 bit version.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at

[Bug 204547] [NEW] Fortran files: gedit code-comment plugin and gtksourceview

2008-03-21 Thread John M
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit-plugins

Hi,

I just installed the beta of Hardy Heron, and have a couple of comments
regarding gedit:

In Gutsy, the gedit code-comment plugin was unable to comment/uncomment
Fortran files (*.f90, *.f95, etc.), although that option used to be
available in Feisty ---I thought it was related to the sort-of-beta
status of gktsourceview-2.0, so my solution was simply to add an old
version of codecomment.* to my plugins folder. The problem still
persists in Hardy.

Also, I noticed that the gedit version that comes with Hardy is unable
to identify an *.f90 file as Fortran source, if the file starts with
!- (without the quotes) , as in the following:

!---
program hello
   print *, 'Hello world!'
end program
!---

In those cases the mime type, according to the the tooltip, is
text/x-vhdl, instead of text/x-fortran. It looks like
gedit/gtksourceview is not considering the file extension at all.

John.

[Bug 203470] Re: Unable to play DAAP shared mpc files

2008-03-21 Thread rbertran
Okz, here we go... ;)

rhythmbox:

~$ rhythmbox --version
GNOME rhythmbox 0.11.4.90

file to play: (in the attahment)

~/Music/Slayer/God Hates Us All$ file 08\ -\ Seven\ Faces.mpc
08 - Seven Faces.mpc: Musepack audio, SV 7.0, quality 8 (BrainDead), Release 1.1

Procedure to reproduce the error:

a) We need two machines with rhytmbox installed. (In my case I have one with
Ubuntu hardy 64bits and one Debian 64 bits unstable.) . Check that you have
installed all the gstreamer plugins (good, bad, ugly, ugly-multiverse...). A
quick way to do it is installing the metapackage ubuntu restricted extras.
b) Start rhytmbox in both machines from the command line (to see the output)
c) Add the attached file in the rhytmbox (or any other .mpc file) music library
of both machines.
d) Try to play that file in both machines. It should be ok.
e) Enable the DAAP music share plugin in both rhythmbox instances. At these
point you will be able to see the library of the other rhytmbox instance.
f) Try to play the same file, from the music shared by the other machine.
g) The error message in the command line and the dialog boxes explained before
should appear.

It's these ok? If you need something else, just ask.
Thanks,

Salut!

[Bug 202300] Re: light blue on white unreadable: ssh login

2008-03-21 Thread Mika Fischer
There is nothing bash can do about this. It does not even know what the
background color is.

gnome-terminal sets the background color and it also sets all the other
colors.

So, the original complaint is that the default colors of gnome-terminal
provide suboptimal contrast to the default background, which is white.

As a workaround for the bug submitter: You could try the other color
schemes in gnome-terminal, like rxvt, which have more saturated colors.

** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: bash = gnome-terminal
   Status: Incomplete = New

** Summary changed:

- light blue on white unreadable: ssh login
+ default colors provide bad contrast to default background

** Description changed:

- 1. installed ssh server on hardy
- 2. using the standard terminal with white background to log into another
server
- 3. log into hardy again
- 4. gives quite unreadable colors: light blue on white. see attachement.
+ The default colors of gnome-terminal are not optimally readable on a
+ white background. They should be more saturated.
+
+ The original submitter especially did not like the light blue color,
+ which should be darker in his opinion.

[Bug 204450] Re: Daylight saving in evolution / opensync

2008-03-21 Thread hove99
Hi Ralph

Yes, my version is 2.22.0-0ubuntu2. I am using libopensync0
0.19-1.2ubuntu1, opensync-plugin-evolution 0.19-1ubuntu2, opensync-
plugin 0.19-2, and multisync0.90 0.19.0-4.1ubuntu1.

I also noticed that when syncing to my K800i using opensync (with the
Adjust for Daylight Saving Time option ticked, the alarm/notification
times are 1 hour early (e.g. an alarm set to 1 hour before appointment
is two hours before on cellphone).

Furthermore, when syncing to Google calendar using the opensync plugin
(0.19-2), Google gets everything right when the option is ticked,
otherwise the entries on Google are 1 hour ahead.

[Bug 204566] [NEW] Rhythmbox keeps trying to install codecs

2008-03-21 Thread teHIngo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

The basic behaviour of this bug is, that rhyhtmbox generally asks me Search
for suitable codecs? although I had previously installed them through
rhythmbox. I can even play the songs the codecs are tried to installed for.
Moreover, if I click on search, after the search is completed, the new window
reports There is no matching application available.

2008-03-21 Thread teHIngo
I want to inform you that I have also experienced this bug through

to stop or anything, it is still playing but it will never play the
next song. You have to double click on another song for rhythmbox to be
playing again.

[Bug 204509] Re: rythmbox crashed in the middle of song

2008-03-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 204598] [NEW] gnome-power-manager does not release ALSA device after the lid beep

2008-03-21 Thread Артём Попов
Public bug reported:

It looks like gnome-power-manager does not release the sound device
after issuing a beep that happens when the laptop lid is closed then
opened.

The ALSA dmix layer (longtime default in Ubuntu) is okay with this, but
sometimes it's required that the ALSA device must be completely free (e.
g. when using OSS emulation, starting jackd, etc.)

Reproducable by closing and opening the lid, then trying to play
something via OSS, e. g. madplay something.mp3

Workaround is to kill and restart gnome-power-manager.

[Bug 152731] Re: [regression] gnome-power-manager laptop backlight not working on VAIO VGN-FSxxx

2008-03-21 Thread JoePub
Just thought I would add to this. I have the same issue too with a Sony
VAIO VGN-SZ3XWP, brightness works with the function keys but does not
work using the sliders in gnome-power-manager. The output of gnome-
power-manager can be seen below. Funny enough, it did work on a fresh
install, but as soon as I installed nvidia-glx-new as opposed to nv
drivers it stopped working.

The output seems to indicate that values are the same for before and
after calculations so it does not do anything

Steps to reproduce:
 - setup a VM in vmware 1.0.5

[Bug 204652] [NEW] gtk_key_theme Emacs mode shade most Gnome Accelerators

2008-03-21 Thread Benjamin Thyreau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

Hi,
On Hardy, setting the gtk_key_theme gconf entry to Emacs allows to use some
useful shortcut in lots of entry widget, yet it disables any Gnome Accelerator,
which makes some applications almost useless. For example, in gedit, Alt-F
shifts the cursor from one word to the right, so i have no way to open the
File menu from the keyboard.
This seems to be a recent behaviour, as i changed my gtk_key_theme entry to
Emacs for ages before (in order to get Ctrl-U/K in Firefox entrybar in fact)
Thanks

[Bug 204654] [NEW] add UTC entry to clock

2008-03-21 Thread Chad Waters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Please add an UTC entry to the world clock applet.

If a geographical location is needed for pin on the map Greenwich, UK
would be the obvious choice:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Observatory%2C_Greenwich

Note: this would not be the same as any geographical location in the UK
because DST is observed.
