[Bug 337964] Re: Power Manager is the only System-Preferences.. tool that can't be dismissed with ESC
I want to note that the standard key combination to close a window is Ctrl+W for multi-window applications, and Ctrl+Q for singular windows. [Bug 311057] Re: Add to Panel - Menu bar just reproduces Main menu
Oh, ok, the applets do what they are intended to do so this is not a bug, my bad. Still, a better wording in the Add dialog would be good. The use of A as in A custom menu bar suggests it is different from The in The main GNOME menu. I thought it was a difference that I could add several Custom-menues with different content. Also the use of custom suggested to me that I, as a user of Ubuntu, could customize the menu. Not that this was a custom implementation of a menu-viewer program. So perhaps it would be better to say something like The main GNOME menu and The compact menu or The main menu and The application menu Paul: let's learn Gnome and build the menu we both want :-) -- Add to Panel - Menu bar just reproduces Main menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311057 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 337583] [NEW] 12/24 time format removed in 9.04. Why?
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi everyone. Well I haven't tried the English version of Ubuntu 9.04 yet but yesterday installed and full patched the beta 5 in spanish in VirtualBox. As you can guess, I visited several know issues from previous versions of Ubuntu. The first I did was click in the date and take a look to the time and date options. With surprise, I found that in 9.04 you CAN'T change the time to whatever you like but you are forced with the 24 hours format. This is a very old bug affecting -still- Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 (please check 20). It only affects Spanish languages. Well, before you had the check-mark (It doesn't work but you have it). Now, in 9.04 it's gone and you are forced to use just one. Please, the fix for this is SO EASY that if I knew some about C programming, I would fix it myself. The more I think, the less I can understand WHY the time format can't be free because at the end it's nothing but personal taste. Regards. [Bug 311057] Re: Add to Panel - Menu bar just reproduces Main menu
The wording should be fixed, particularly as the more obvious meaning is that it does something that I think a lot of people would like (they probably try the menu, fail and forget about it rather than whinge like us). I'd seriously love to implement a proper Custom menu option in gnome (or whatever) but I'm very time poor at the moment and I suspect it would take me a week of overhead to learn enough to implement and submit something like that as part of jaunty (especially as I'd definitely want to also reword or remove the current confusing options). -- Add to Panel - Menu bar just reproduces Main menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311057 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 84662] Re: Xnest: ghost mouse
I am seeing the same issue (Xnested xeyes appears to update only when the pointer crosses the Xnest's window edges) with Ubuntu 8.10. However, killing gnome-screensaver (2.24.0-0ubuntu2) didn't remove the problem, which I imagined should have helped, if it is to blame. Perhaps it should've been terminated in a way other than plain kill? I am running the NVidia proprietary drivers, but as the bug is cunningly similar to this one which had didn't involve NVidia, I'm thinking that's not the case here either. I also verified the bug from another Ubuntu 8.10 user. (unknown setup) I tried running xev -id $winid_of_Xnest, and received no output when moving the pointer across the Xnest window. Could there be another process interested in my pointer movements? [Bug 338011] Re: Rhythmbox crashes after a few minutes and seems to shut down internal disk
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 338192] [NEW] yelp run from command line cannot report a problem
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp Ubuntu 9.04 jaunty Alpha 5 with several hundred package updates applied. I had asked for help from the Clock applet, and I noticed the help didn't match the applet, so I chose Report a Problem, which started up a browser report for something called yelp. I double-checked the About menu and was told that the application was Help 2.25.1, not yelp. I did a process listing, and didn't see anything named yelp running, only gnome-help. So I read the yelp man page and then started yelp from the command line, and it started the Gnome help application (a second copy). Is the program gnome-help called yelp in the packaging and documentation? That's confusing. I did a process listing, and I could see the yelp I had run from the command line: 4 0 5840 4796 20 0 121652 50904 poll Sl pts/0 0:03 yelp I did some searches in the new Gnome help window, then went back to the previous Clock help window, and at some point the yelp I had run crashed: I/O error : Is a directory I/O error : Is a directory [1]+ Segmentation fault (core dumped) yelp The top menu bar showed a ! icon telling me to click on it to report a crash. I tried to do that; the report a crash application apparently itself crashed and I couldn't submit anything that way. So I started yelp from terminal again, e.g. just typed yelp at the bash prompt. When yelp opened, I tried Report a Problem. and I got this mess: r...@idallen-jaunty5:~# yelp [1] 6380 I/O error : Is a directory I/O error : Is a directory Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk, line 264, in module app.run_argv() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 325, in run_argv return self.run_report_bug() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 298, in run_report_bug self.collect_info() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 425, in collect_info icthread.exc_raise() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/REThread.py, line 37, in run self._retval = self.__target(*self.__args, **self.__kwargs) File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 66, in thread_collect_info report.anonymize() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/report.py, line 932, in anonymize replacements[os.uname()[1]] = 'hostname' UnboundLocalError: local variable 'replacements' referenced before assignment Error in sys.excepthook: Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport_python_hook.py, line 85, in apport_excepthook os.O_WRONLY|os.O_CREAT|os.O_EXCL), 'w') OSError: [Errno 17] File exists: '/var/crash/_usr_share_apport_apport-gtk.0.crash' Original exception was: Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk, line 264, in module app.run_argv() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 325, in run_argv return self.run_report_bug() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 298, in run_report_bug self.collect_info() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 425, in collect_info icthread.exc_raise() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/REThread.py, line 37, in run self._retval = self.__target(*self.__args, **self.__kwargs) File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 66, in thread_collect_info report.anonymize() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apport/report.py, line 932, in anonymize replacements[os.uname()[1]] = 'hostname' UnboundLocalError: local variable 'replacements' referenced before assignment yelp: Installed: 2.25.1-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 2.25.1-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 2.25.1-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/yelp Package: yelp 2.25.1-0ubuntu2 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: yelp Uname: Linux 2.6.28-8-generic i686 ** Affects: yelp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- yelp run from command line cannot report a problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338192 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to yelp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
