[Bug 337964] Re: Power Manager is the only System-Preferences.. tool that can't be dismissed with ESC

2009-03-05 Thread Martin Pitt
I want to note that the standard key combination to close a window is
Ctrl+W for multi-window applications, and Ctrl+Q for singular windows.
Unfortunately gnome-control-center obeys neither (nor does gnome-power-
prefs), so maybe that should be fixed too/first.

[Bug 311057] Re: Add to Panel - Menu bar just reproduces Main menu

2009-03-05 Thread jmaasing
Oh, ok, the applets do what they are intended to do so this is not a
bug, my bad.

Still, a better wording in the Add dialog would be good. The use of A as in
A custom menu bar suggests it is different from The in The main GNOME
menu. I thought it was a difference that I could add several Custom-menues
with different content.
Also the use of custom suggested to me that I, as a user of Ubuntu, could
customize the menu. Not that this was a custom implementation of a menu-viewer
program.

So perhaps it would be better to say something like
The main GNOME menu and The compact menu
or
The main menu and The application menu

Paul: let's learn Gnome and build the menu we both want :-)

[Bug 337583] [NEW] 12/24 time format removed in 9.04. Why?

2009-03-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi everyone.

Well I haven't tried the English version of Ubuntu 9.04 yet but
yesterday installed and full patched the beta 5 in spanish in
VirtualBox. As you can guess, I visited several know issues from
previous versions of Ubuntu. The first I did was click in the date and
take a look to the time and date options. With surprise, I found that in
9.04 you CAN'T change the time to whatever you like but you are forced
with the 24 hours format.

This is a very old bug affecting -still- Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 (please
check 20). It only affects Spanish languages. Well, before you had
the check-mark (It doesn't work but you have it). Now, in 9.04 it's gone
and you are forced to use just one. Please, the fix for this is SO EASY
that if I knew some about C programming, I would fix it myself. The more
I think, the less I can understand WHY the time format can't be free
because at the end it's nothing but personal taste.

Regards.

Turbo.

the janitor has nothing to do with that, the issue reported there has

the nominations are there to mark blockers for jaunty, that issue now is
a minor one happening for early jaunty users only and has no reason to

I am using the 8.10 Distro Original CD, with full updates done as of today, and
the issue still occurs.I am not sure of what the aplay is. If you give me a
command line i can re create the issue locally and test the command. You should
know as well the login ready sound causes no conflict, its the 2 other sounds
logging in and error. Once i assign a wav, no mp3's play after login.

[Bug 311057] Re: Add to Panel - Menu bar just reproduces Main menu

2009-03-05 Thread Paul Whipp
The wording should be fixed, particularly as the more obvious meaning is
that it does something that I think a lot of people would like (they
probably try the menu, fail and forget about it rather than whinge like
us).

I'd seriously love to implement a proper Custom menu option in gnome
(or whatever) but I'm very time poor at the moment and I suspect it
would take me a week of overhead to learn enough to implement and submit
something like that as part of jaunty (especially as I'd definitely want
to also reword or remove the current confusing options).

[Bug 84662] Re: Xnest: ghost mouse

2009-03-05 Thread flux
I am seeing the same issue (Xnested xeyes appears to update only when
the pointer crosses the Xnest's window edges) with Ubuntu 8.10. However,
killing gnome-screensaver (2.24.0-0ubuntu2) didn't remove the problem,
which I imagined should have helped, if it is to blame. Perhaps it
should've been terminated in a way other than plain kill?

I am running the NVidia proprietary drivers, but as the bug is cunningly
similar to this one which had didn't involve NVidia, I'm thinking that's
not the case here either. I also verified the bug from another Ubuntu
8.10 user. (unknown setup)

I tried running xev -id $winid_of_Xnest, and received no output when
moving the pointer across the Xnest window.

Could there be another process interested in my pointer movements? I'm
running the following X clients: applet.py audacious bluetooth-applet
evolution-alarm-notify evolution-exchange-storage firefox gnome-
netstatus-applet gnome-panel gnome-power-manager gnome-settings-daemon
mixer_applet2 mrxvt nautilus nm-applet notification-daemon rep rxvt
seahorse-agent tracker-applet trashapplet update-notifier x-session-
manager xemacs xterm.

Btw, the actual issue I originally have is not getting the mouse pointer
move in Warsow :-), but bugs on that were marked to be duplicate of
this.

[Bug 338158] [NEW] g-k-d hangs, consumes CPU then segfaults

2009-03-05 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

Machine upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty

I have a keyring that should be unlocked at login. Attempting to use it
(e.g. for ssh) causes me to be prompted for the keyring password, then
the key password. It then provides authentication for a few ssh
sessions, but after a while hits 100% CPU. Trying to use it after that
causes it to segfault.

Attaching some output from running it with gdb and debugging symbols
installed. I have stripped my key/passphrase.

[Bug 338011] Re: Rhythmbox crashes after a few minutes and seems to shut down internal disk

2009-03-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 257891] Re: Problem in gvfs-backends : Sorry, the program gvfsd-trash closed unexpectedly in Ubuntu Intrepid Alpha4

2009-03-05 Thread Martin Pitt
For the apport side of things, I'm pretty sure that the reason is that
the apt-get cron job wasn't run yet, so that apt didn't know package
origins. That's not something we can fix in apport itself. It also won't
cause too much confusion for users, since we disable apport in stable
releases.

Could you reopen this bug. I can reproduce it and still have a KVM which
prevents the autodetection capability from working.

My suggestion that this should remain open is based on Bryce's
interpretation of the bug/feature request earlier in this thread...

I can specify the changes which are required to xorg.conf and the xrandr
invocations needed (if necessary - no doubt the Gnome resolution people
know this stuff too).

[Bug 338192] [NEW] yelp run from command line cannot report a problem

2009-03-05 Thread Ian! D. Allen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Ubuntu 9.04 jaunty Alpha 5 with several hundred package updates applied.

I had asked for help from the Clock applet, and I noticed the help didn't match
the applet, so I chose Report a Problem, which started up a browser report for
something called yelp. I double-checked the About menu and was told that
the application was Help 2.25.1, not yelp. I did a process listing, and
didn't
see anything named yelp running, only gnome-help. So I read the yelp
man page and then started yelp from the command line, and it started the
Gnome help application (a second copy). Is the program gnome-help called
yelp in the packaging and documentation? That's confusing.

I did a process listing, and I could see the yelp I had run from the
command line:

4 0 5840 4796 20 0 121652 50904 poll Sl pts/0 0:03
yelp

I did some searches in the new Gnome help window, then went back to the
previous Clock help window, and at some point the yelp I had run crashed:

I/O error : Is a directory
I/O error : Is a directory
[1]+ Segmentation fault (core dumped) yelp

The top menu bar showed a ! icon telling me to click on it to report a crash.
I tried to do that; the report a crash application apparently itself crashed
and I
couldn't submit anything that way.

So I started yelp from terminal again, e.g. just typed yelp at the bash
prompt.
When yelp opened, I tried Report a Problem. and I got this mess:

r...@idallen-jaunty5:~# yelp

[Bug 46548] Re: Include big analog clock as screensaver

2009-03-05 Thread PT2K
baldahin, thanks for your reply.
Command line options were implemented a little while ago.
You can fix the clock on the center of the screen:
clock --fix-clock (or clock -f)
Edit clock.desktop for your choice.
Regards.

[Bug 304940] Re: [Regression intrepid] Screen brightness problems on Acer laptop

2009-03-05 Thread Rohan Dhruva
As mentioned in the above report, it seems that problem is that g-p-m is
not getting proper values from hardware. However, I have talked to the
maintainer of the acer-wmi module (which handles acpi stuff for acer),
and he feels that the module itself is not at fault. What can I do to
debug this problem further?
