[Bug 622096] [NEW] computer failed to suspend with fn+f4 but suspends from menu

2010-08-22 Thread Jeffrey Baker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When two people are logged into my ThinkPad X61, sometimes Ubuntu
refuses to suspend using the keystroke fn+f4, which is the normal way.
The message is Your computer failed to suspend. The failure was
reported as: Cannot suspend which by the way is also a rather pointless
and uninformative message. However, if I use the mouse to select
suspend from the menu in the upper right corner of the panel, it works
fine. So the problem is obviously with the handling of the function
key.

[Bug 622118] [NEW] Eject key tries to 'eject' an USB card reader

2010-08-22 Thread hirumono
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (upgraded from Karmic).
While reporting a regression that prevented the 'eject' key on my Apple
extended keyboard from working (see bugs #569994 and its 'child' #619019), I
found out that the key tried to 'eject' my Sandisk card reader, in fact
unmounting my SD card. I am attaching part of the output of 'gvfs-mount -li':

Drive(5): SanDisk SDDR-199
  Type: GProxyDrive (GProxyVolumeMonitorGdu)
  ids:
   unix-device: '/dev/sdd'
  themed icons:  [drive-removable-media-usb]  [drive-removable-media]
[drive-removable]  [drive]
  is_media_removable=1
  has_media=1
  is_media_check_automatic=1
  can_poll_for_media=1
  can_eject=1
  can_start=0
  can_stop=1
  start_stop_type=shutdown
  Volume(0): BARRYALLEN
Type: GProxyVolume (GProxyVolumeMonitorGdu)
ids:
 uuid: '15E3-496A'
 unix-device: '/dev/sdd1'
 label: 'BARRYALLEN'
themed icons:  [drive-removable-media-usb]  [drive-removable-media]
[drive-removable]  [drive]
can_mount=1
can_eject=1
should_automount=1
Mount(0): BARRYALLEN - file:///media/BARRYALLEN
  Type: GProxyMount (GProxyVolumeMonitorGdu)
  default_location=file:///media/BARRYALLEN
  themed icons:  [drive-removable-media-usb]  [drive-removable-media]
[drive-removable]  [drive]
  can_unmount=1
  can_eject=1
  is_shadowed=0
Volume(0): cdrom1
  Type: GProxyVolume (GProxyVolumeMonitorGdu)
  themed icons:  [drive-optical]  [drive]
  can_mount=1
  can_eject=0
  should_automount=0

the 'can_eject' attribute for the card reader is set to 1 and changes to 0
after the 'eject' key is pressed; so the card reader is seen as an optical
drive, which I think is wrong (how do you 'eject' a card reader??).

My gvfs version is as follows:

gvfs:
  Installato: 1.6.1-0ubuntu1build1
  Candidato: 1.6.1-0ubuntu1build1
  Tabella versione:

System: AMD Athlon64 X2
ASUS A8V deluxe mainboard
OS: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS - upgraded from 9.10
Gnome 2.30.2
Keyboard: Apple, Inc. Extended Keyboard [Mitsumi]

[Bug 622082] Re: At top of yelp, the File/Edit/Go toolbar is not English but gibberish

2010-08-22 Thread Dennis Sheil
Yelp seems to be using the Shavian version of English (e...@shaw) as
opposed to more common forms of English. I switched my desktop to use
Spanish and everything cleared up, back to English and I get this
Shavian English unicode.

[Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title

2010-08-22 Thread Dennis Sheil
I posted some information in bug #622082 but I made it a duplicate of
this.

The funny characters in a cube printed are Unicode characters.
Specifically, Unicode Shavian characters - an alternative method of
displaying the English language, invented by George Bernard Shaw.

I ran gnome-language-selector, switched my language to Spanish (from
Spain), restarted Gnome and the bad toolbar went away, the proper
Spanish characters were displayed in yelp. So this is a problem that
those with a Spanish language environment are not having, but those with
an English environment are having. I should note that I only chose
Spanish as I understand a little of it, I'm sure other languages are
functioning.

The problem is English is being displayed in a Shavian mode instead of
as en_US or en_GB or the like. In fact, it's not even being displayed
in Shavian mode - most systems don't have the Shavian characters
installed, so it just comes out as Unicode numbers in a box gibberish.

[Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title

2010-08-22 Thread Jasper Frumau
This is something. I wonder why Shavian was chosen. To revive the
ancient dream of Bernard Shaw to make the English alphabet simpler and
the orthography phonetic for the English language to replace the
difficulties of the current spelling? A joke perhaps? Or just a typo?
Either way, let us try to reverse it. I for one am more familiar with
the conventional alphabet.

[Bug 260918] Re: needed: libv4l and associated application patches (or gspca stopped working in 2.6.27)

2010-08-22 Thread Vish
Upstream has closed the cheese bug as Not Gnome , Quoting Upstream:

You should be able to have cheese working again installing libv4l = 0.5.7 and
a recent uvcvideo driver. If you are running ubuntu intrepid this means
enabling intrepid-proposed and upgrading kernel from there.
Unfortunately libv4l didn't enter intrepid repositories yet but you can install
it from Loic Minier's PPA at https://launchpad.net/~lool/+archive
If you're not using Ubuntu check if your distribution already packaged latest
libv4l and upgrade it or install it from source.

Little update: libv4l 0.5.7 entered intrepid-proposed. Installing from Loic
Minier's PPA is not needed anymore.

Closing cheese task.

[Bug 577463] Re: sleep mode, pause mode laptop screen

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  When using ubuntu 10.04 it is not possible to use the sleep mode and the
  pause mode for the computer normally anymore. I am using a laptop from
  Toshiba, A100-405, with two operating systems. The below mentioned
  problems only occur when using ubuntu.

  When setting the choice to sleep mode, the computer does switch off but
  even when making the choice for shutting down the hard disk, that does
  not work. When restarting, I first come into the grub menu.

- When setting the choice to pause mode, the computer does go into pause
- mode, but not shutting down the hard disk (see above). When waking it up
- from this mode, the screen only shows vertical colored striping. No key
- will stop this, so it is only possible to shut of the computer
- completely by pressing the on/off button.

thats the one they will go look in first.
To the user, the USB-drive is just a folder (that happens to be placed on an
external device). Would one want every folder on the harddrive to have its own
trash too?

[Bug 550440] Re: Evince does not show all the pages in PS document

2010-08-22 Thread Timmy Shih Jun Yee
I've confirmed that opening the bad PS files with Okular exhibits the
same behavior (i.e. only the last page is shown). This means that this
is a libspectre bug and will be marked as such.

Also, I've tried Evince in Maverick with those files, and the bug still
exists.

[Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title

2010-08-22 Thread Dennis Sheil
When I look at the output of msgunfmt /usr/share/locale-
langpack/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo, I see the line

Language-Team: Shavian ubuntu-l10n-en-s...@lists.launchpad.net\n

The msgstr's in the lines are in Shavian English.

In fact, when I move the yelp.mo file to yelpUSERDISABLE.mo - the
problem with the weird characters goes away

I did an apt-get source yelp and within the po subdirectory are three
English po files, which I believe are Canadian, British and Shavian po
files. I guess the Shavian file got changed into a binary catalog file
and was pushed into that directory as the default for English, and that
catalog overrides the default. Because when the binary catalog is
disabled by moving the file, the problem goes away.

Preferences. The default Mic1 is the backpanel one which i use. It's muted (or
not used) until i select Mic2 and then select back Mic1. After that it does
work fine. After reboot i have to do this again.

[Bug 614705] Re: Evolution calandar month view compress weekends wont work properly

2010-08-22 Thread Samer Moh.d Abu Thaher
this bug also affects me... so I am including more info

This bug is 100% reproducible (at least for me...)

Steps to reproduce:
under Preferences - Calendar and Tasks - General under Work days check all
but Saturday and Friday
and make sure that under Display make sure that Compress weekends in month
view is checked.

Expected behavior:
Saturday and Friday should be compressed into a single column.

Actual behavior:
Evolution compresses Saturday and Sunday instead, the default behavior, while
marking the weekends with dark grey correctly.

Package Versions:
evolution 2.28.3-0ubuntu10
evolution-common 2.28.3-0ubuntu10
evolution-exchange 2.28.3-0ubuntu10
evolution-plugins 2.28.3-0ubuntu10
evolution-couchdb 0.4.5-0ubuntu1
evolution-data-server 2.28.3.1-0ubuntu5
evolution-data-server-common 2.28.3.1-0ubuntu5
evolution-webcal 2.28.0-1
evolution-indicator 0.2.8-0ubuntu1

I think that weekend compression is hard-coded to Saturday and Sunday, or is
controlled by some hidden setting...
It won't be hard to fix...

[Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title

2010-08-22 Thread Dennis Sheil
OK, I have found the problem. It is in the package language-pack-gnome-
en-base

$ dpkg -l language-pack-gnome-en-base|tail -1
ii  language-pack-gnome-en-base  1:10.10+20100817
 GNOME translations for language English

When I do an apt-get source language-pack-gnome-en-base, I get the
source, in which is the file data/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.po which, other
than the header and footer, is identical to
./data/e...@shaw/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.po .

My solution would be to replace data/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.po with the
more standard yelp.po from the data/en_GB subdirectory. There are other
solutions as well.

[Bug 448329] Re: Default input (mic) doesn't work until reselected

2010-08-22 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-media.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 269687] Re: Page Size greyed out in gtkprint applications.

2010-08-22 Thread David Nice
To summarise this long standing bug; users cannot adjust the page settings
using the 'page set-up' tab in the print dialogue. (Apparently of applications
using gtk print.) To recreate the bug, go to the page set-up tab in the print
dialogue of any of the following programs:
Eye of Gnome Image Viewer
Firefox
Epiphany
Evolution
Gimp
F-Spot
... (and apparently GNU Cash) you get the idea.

Openoffice.org uses its own print dialogue and is not affected. You can
compare the OOo to any of the above applications to see the issue.

The options can be adjusted directly from the page set-up menu, but many
users look to the page set-up tab in the print dialogue.

I can see that this bug has been running as a low priority for some time
now. Surely it's now time to get this fixed or just remove the tab so
that it can't confuse users any longer?

Thanks to all for the great work.

[Bug 556933] Re: Update standard folders should add language links to folders, not rename them

2010-08-22 Thread papukaija
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, you suggest that Update standard folders
should add language links to folders, not rename them while the real
issue is that (in your case) ~/Desktop is renamed to ~/Bureau, but only
if it is empty. Do you want to keep this bug as a feature/config change
request or a bug about that folder renaming issue?

[Bug 620430] Re: Pressing shuffle button in Rhytmbox causes it to crash

2010-08-22 Thread Marien Zwart
This is indeed because of the mpris plugin. Relevant part of the stack
is just:

#0  0x00172642 in rb_shell_player_get_playback_state (player=0x822d000,
shuffle=0x0, repeat=0xbfffefcc) at rb-shell-player.c:1817
#1  0x038005a3 in get_loop_status (plugin=value optimized out) at
rb-mpris-plugin.c:570
#2  0x038020bf in play_order_changed_cb (object=0x822d000, pspec=0x81e3760,
plugin=0x831f2a0) at rb-mpris-plugin.c:784

Specifically, get_loop_status in rb-mpris-plugin.c does:

rb_shell_player_get_playback_state (plugin-player, NULL, loop);

(passing NULL for the gboolean* shuffle), and rhythmbox itself then
segfaults doing:

*shuffle = i  0;

(using that gboolean* assuming it is not NULL).

Either passing a valid pointer to an (unused) gboolean in the mpris
plugin or teaching the rhythmbox core to check these gboolean*s for NULL
before using them should fix the bug.

[Bug 453072] Re: Context menu for a USB pendrive shows Unmount, Eject and Safely Remove Drive

2010-08-22 Thread Steven
@loldrup
USB drives have trash cans because moving a file within a drive is much faster
than moving a file between drives. When moving a file within a drive, all that
changes is the file name and the file is not touched. Deleting a file removes
the reference to the file but again, the file itself is not touched.

2010-08-22 Thread das_nervt
sorry fore the late answer

but the new version is not fixing the Problem. In 8.10 everything works
fine.

I feel that tis is related to some udev bugs like #561585 because
neither k3b nore wodim/cdrecord does any erase of my RW-CD's
