[Bug 622096] [NEW] computer failed to suspend with fn+f4 but suspends from menu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager When two people are logged into my ThinkPad X61, sometimes Ubuntu refuses to suspend using the keystroke fn+f4, which is the normal way. The message is Your computer failed to suspend. The failure was reported as: Cannot suspend which by the way is also a rather pointless and uninformative message. [Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title
I posted some information in bug #622082 but I made it a duplicate of this. The funny characters in a cube printed are Unicode characters. Specifically, Unicode Shavian characters - an alternative method of displaying the English language, invented by George Bernard Shaw. I ran gnome-language-selector, switched my language to Spanish (from Spain), restarted Gnome and the bad toolbar went away, the proper Spanish characters were displayed in yelp. So this is a problem that those with a Spanish language environment are not having, but those with an English environment are having. I should note that I only chose Spanish as I understand a little of it, I'm sure other languages are functioning. The problem is English is being displayed in a Shavian mode instead of as en_US or en_GB or the like. In fact, it's not even being displayed in Shavian mode - most systems don't have the Shavian characters installed, so it just comes out as Unicode numbers in a box gibberish. -- Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605577 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to yelp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title
This is something. I wonder why Shavian was chosen. To revive the ancient dream of Bernard Shaw to make the English alphabet simpler and the orthography phonetic for the English language to replace the difficulties of the current spelling? A joke perhaps? Or just a typo? Either way, let us try to reverse it. [Bug 260918] Re: needed: libv4l and associated application patches (or gspca stopped working in 2.6.27)
Upstream has closed the cheese bug as Not Gnome , Quoting Upstream: You should be able to have cheese working again installing libv4l = 0.5.7 and a recent uvcvideo driver. If you are running ubuntu intrepid this means enabling intrepid-proposed and upgrading kernel from there. Unfortunately libv4l didn't enter intrepid repositories yet but you can install it from Loic Minier's PPA at https://launchpad.net/~lool/+archive If you're not using Ubuntu check if your distribution already packaged latest libv4l and upgrade it or install it from source. Little update: libv4l 0.5.7 entered intrepid-proposed. Installing from Loic Minier's PPA is not needed anymore. In my Ubuntu 10.04, the above-mentioned http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19751825/dell440.pdf still can't be displayed correctly with Evince and Okular, even after methods mentioned in #25 and #26. -- Evince couldnot display chinese pdf files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209145 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 550440] Re: Evince does not show all the pages in PS document
I've confirmed that opening the bad PS files with Okular exhibits the same behavior (i.e. only the last page is shown). This means that this is a libspectre bug and will be marked as such. Also, I've tried Evince in Maverick with those files, and the bug still exists. ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Invalid ** Package changed: evince (Ubuntu) = libspectre (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: libspectre (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Confirmed ** Summary changed: - Evince does not show all the pages in PS document + Evince does not show all the pages in some PostScript documents ** Summary changed: - Evince does not show all the pages in some PostScript documents + Evince and Okular do not show all the pages in some PostScript documents -- Evince and Okular do not show all the pages in some PostScript documents https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550440 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug (32193). -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I guess the Shavian file got changed into a binary catalog file and was pushed into that directory as the default for English, and that catalog overrides the default. OK, I have found the problem. My solution would be to replace data/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.po with the more standard yelp.po from the data/en_GB subdirectory. [Bug 269687] Re: Page Size greyed out in gtkprint applications.
To summarise this long standing bug; users cannot adjust the page settings using the 'page set-up' tab in the print dialogue. (Apparently of applications using gtk print.) To recreate the bug, go to the page set-up tab in the print dialogue of any of the following programs: Eye of Gnome Image Viewer Firefox Epiphany Evolution Gimp F-Spot ... (and apparently GNU Cash) you get the idea. Openoffice.org uses its own print dialogue and is not affected. You can compare the OOo to any of the above applications to see the issue. The options can be adjusted directly from the page set-up menu, but many users look to the page set-up tab in the print dialogue. I can see that this bug has been running as a low priority for some time now. Surely it's now time to get this fixed or just remove the tab so that it can't confuse users any longer? [Bug 620430] Re: Pressing shuffle button in Rhytmbox causes it to crash
This is indeed because of the mpris plugin. Relevant part of the stack is just: #0 0x00172642 in rb_shell_player_get_playback_state (player=0x822d000, shuffle=0x0, repeat=0xbfffefcc) at rb-shell-player.c:1817 #1 0x038005a3 in get_loop_status (plugin=value optimized out) at rb-mpris-plugin.c:570 #2 0x038020bf in play_order_changed_cb (object=0x822d000, pspec=0x81e3760, plugin=0x831f2a0) at rb-mpris-plugin.c:784 Specifically, get_loop_status in rb-mpris-plugin.c does: rb_shell_player_get_playback_state (plugin-player, NULL, loop); (passing NULL for the gboolean* shuffle), and rhythmbox itself then segfaults doing: *shuffle = i 0; (using that gboolean* assuming it is not NULL). Either passing a valid pointer to an (unused) gboolean in the mpris plugin or teaching the rhythmbox core to check these gboolean*s for NULL before using them should fix the bug. -- Pressing shuffle button in Rhytmbox causes it to crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/620430 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
