Oh, and I forgot one important thing. Any sponsor that would disagree with being assigned tickets this way would be able to opt out by adding something like `auto_assign: false` to their sponsor.yaml https://github.com/FrostyX/fedora-sponsors#b-your-personal-config-on-fedorapeopleorg Jakub On Sat, Apr 1, 2023 at 11:17 PM Jakub Kadlčík wrote: > > Hello, > > I've set myself a goal to improve the package review process. Auto-assign packager sponsors to tickets?
Hello, I've set myself a goal to improve the package review process. My first step was creating https://docs.pagure.org/fedora-sponsors , I am currently working on https://github.com/FrostyX/fedora-review-service and contribute to the `fedora-review` tool. I have some ideas about what to do next, and now I'd like to discuss one of them. Currently, we have 31 people waiting to be sponsored https://fedoraproject.org/PackageReviewStatus/needsponsor.html many of them waiting for months. To get to the point of waiting to be sponsored, all of these people invested their time to learn the basics of RPM packaging and went through the tedious process of a package review without quitting. It's not very nice of us to let them wait for an indefinite amount of time without a reply after all of this. I believe there is a technical solution to this problem, so I'd like to write a script that would: - Be run weekly - Take a small number of active sponsors (say 5 of them, or maybe 10% of them) and give each of them one of the waiting tickets - Technically, it would be done by setting NEEDINFO on the ticket - If a sponsor was already given one ticket, he wouldn't get another - It could prioritize sponsors who didn't get tickets for the longest time - It could consider sponsors' interests https://docs.pagure.org/fedora-sponsors/interests Additionally: - If a sponsor is not able or willing to work on a ticket, they could either set NEEDINFO on another sponsor or just drop themselves. The ticket would then get a new sponsor next week - After a month without a response to a NEEDINFO, another sponsor would be assigned We currently have 37 active sponsors and 31 tickets waiting to be sponsored, so the whole queue should get processed within a couple of weeks and every sponsor should get only one ticket. After that I have no idea how often will every sponsor be bothered. Maybe once a year? What do you think? Would you be okay with a system like this? Please forward to sponsors that you know, if there is no strong disagreement, I'll proceed with the implementation. Why? Same reason - alternative versions do not require package review. See: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/ReviewGuidelines/#_package_review_process > - This repackaging has been pushed to F37 too. Why, if this was a F38 change? I agree, this is unusual. > - Now we have conflicts in F37 and F38 [5], with FTBFS for those > requiring unversioned nodejs. That sounds like a packaging bug. The default nodejs version should always provide the "unversioned" nodejs, and other versions must not provide the unversioned names. (This is how Python packages work in Fedora for a while, but it looks like the process is still very buggy for nodejs.) (Side note: It was explicitly decided against using alternatives for this purpose, because the way it's done for Python - and now NodeJS - should be less error-prone and buggy. Java is one of the few things in Fedora that still uses alternatives for this use case.) Re: Node.js repackaging status and questions
Hello! I woudl like to - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/NodejsRepackaging#Feedback - add, that also java is using alternatives for major versions of jdk switching. Weahve master java - to switch runtime, and javac to switch devel subpackages. Man pages are also slaves to the java/javac master so the always corespond to the proper selected java. I would heavily recomend to use alternatives for this,a nd thus remain aligned with other major runtimes. One more reason to use alternatives might be theirs future - build over overlayfs, an *userspace* version of alternatives is being.. discussed ( I would realy lke to say developed, but it seems it is still ony on paper). Still the proof of concept already existed. Thanx! J. Node.js repackaging status and questions
Hi, As a brief summary: - The Node.js repackaging change [1-2] was accepted for F38. - Packages nodejs16 and nodejs18 were created without any review [3-4] (?). - Package nodejs20 was created a month ago, but I didn't find any review request. Why? - This repackaging has been pushed to F37 too. Why, if this was a F38 change? - Now we have conflicts in F37 and F38 [5], with FTBFS for those requiring unversioned nodejs.
