[digitalradio] Digitalradio: Facebook change.
This Yahoo group has had a Facebook presence for a year or so in the form of a Facebook group. No one really uses it, probably because using the Yahoo group is easier. However, despite some of the privacy issues that have been well publicized recently, the overall simplicity of Facebook is rather appealing and it is very useful for a quick check of who is doing what, and where. The Facebook groups do not seem to be as useful because you have to drill down an extra layer or two. You have to make more of a conscious effort to actually look for the group's content, it does not seem to be quickly available when glancing at your own Facebook page. So, I am playing around with a Facebook page for digitalradio rather than a group. My early experiments suggest that the Page does show up in one's own Facebook page (if you want) , allowing an easier quick glance. Please consider become a fan (Facebook terminology) and testing it out. I'm not fully sure how to link to it, but http://www.facebook.com/pages/digitalradio/123270301037522 seems to work. Andy K3UK

Andy, I rarely check my Facebook page (no teenagers here!) and only signed up with Facebook, at your request, but I'll give it a try. When I go to the page, I don't see where to write on the Wall, or how to become a fan. What am I missing? 73 - Skip KH6TY

[digitalradio] Re: Digital Suite Performance
I believe the best program for CPU performance and memory size for PSK is Digipan. For contesting I like Mixw because of the way it tracks countries and prefixes in real time. Mixw is also very efficient on memory and CPU usage. This is an excellent program other than a serious memory leak in PSK mode. The new release of MixW due out late this summer or fall will add more modes and clean up a few bugs according to the author. HRD is a very nice program (it has a million lines of source code according to one of the authors) but needs a beefy computer to run on. It locks up and goes into a CPU loop about three times a week for me and sometimes the whole computer needs a reboot. Perhaps my problem is that I need a beefier computer? Multipsk has the most digital modes but is certainly not for the novice. The program is rock solid and never crashes for me. The interface is truly overwhelming for a novice. For RTTY, MMTTY in my view is by far, the best program for this mode. I regularly use both Mixw and HRD. My two cents worth 73, Bernie, VE3FWF. --- In digitalradio@yahoogroups.com, jon_g4fut jon_g4...@... wrote: There is some discussion about the viability of ROS, as it appeasr to take up the same bandwidth as an SSB signal, thus defeating the reason to use digital. --- In digitalradio@yahoogroups.com, KH6TY kh6ty@ wrote: For extreme qrp you should also try out the new mode ros With 5 w and a wire you can work the world with almost no conditions (band closed) I consistently work the world on 20m with only ONE watt (My PSK-20), an attic wire dipole, DigiPan, and PSK31, whether the band is open or not, but I take up less than 50 Hz of spectrum. I think may others do that also. If you can hear'em, you can work'em on PSK31, except over the polar paths. 73, Skip KH6TY
[digitalradio] AX.25 parameters in MixW 2.19
I have received the email below from Yann Voumard. If you are able to assist him, particularly with specific answers to his questions about the AX.25 parameters I am sure he would appreciate it. Please respond to him DIRECTLY at: yann.voum...@epfl.ch He is not a member of this group. Scott/K6IX -- My name is Yann Voumard and I am an employee at the EPFL Space Center (space.epfl.ch) in Lausanne, Switzerland. In order to decode the downlink of our satellite (swisscube.epfl.ch), we use MixW 2.19. I have found your email address in the help file. I have read the manual but I am not a qualified radio amateur, so I have a few questions on a specific topic. If you could answer some of them, it would be much appreciated. We use the AX.25 protocol and my concerns are about the parameter tab of the settings box (Mode Mode settings… Parameters). I would like to know if these settings impact only the transmission or also the decoding. Could I have a short description of the fields “MaxFrame” and “PacLen”? By default, the value of “PacLen” is 100 and our satellite is configured with a maximal size for the I-Field of 256. Could that impacts the decoding? http://www.obriensweb.com/digispotter.html Chat, Skeds, and spots all in one (resize to suit)Yahoo! Re: [digitalradio] Digitalradio: Facebook change. [a word about facebook]
No can do. facebook is one of those sites that read write and otherwise do things that most don't like to have done to their system. It would take me the better part of 1/2 hour to get past the site is reading or writing or trying whatever. Just to get to it. And I think I have told you in the past that any mail from a web based (yahoo, g-mail, hotmail) is deleted from the sever without me even seeing it. Sorry to say that facebook is on the top of the list that like to do just that. Do they really need to know who is in my address book? Or what sites I have been on? If there is something that you feel that I really need to know you better post it on the list.
