Re: [GNC] ofx/qfx import to V3

2018-04-28 Thread DaveC49
John,

For your info OFX import is working fine on Linux Mint/Ubuntu 16.04. The
only problem I had was that the previous automatic matching to accounts
seemed to have had the data cleared in the swap over to the V3 user
preferences files. After one import it had reestablished most of the
matching account matches and worked fine.

[GNC] Reconcile Window Vertical Scroll Bar

2018-04-28 Thread Robin Chattopadhyay
When the reconcile window is open, as I move the mouse to check the 'R' box
and the pointer approaches the checkbox, the vertical scroll bar doubles in
width and nearly covers up the checkbox.

This makes it difficult to click the checkbox and I end up clicking the
scroll bar instead.

As the pointer moves away from the checkbox/scroll bar shared area, the
scroll bar returns to it's original width.

My workaround has been to adjust the width of the Description column, which
then widens the 'R' column so the checkbox isn't covered by the scroll bar.

This works, but the program doesn't remember the column widths from one
time to the next. My question then... Is there a more permanent
solution/workaround?

Re: [GNC] new v3.0 install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2018-04-28 Thread John Ralls
There are some non-Windows issues too, so it's worth waiting.

Most people have their browsers set up to download to $HOME/Downloads, but
wherever your browser sends the tarball is fine as long as you can find it.
Once it's downloaded just say
  tar -xf /path/to/gnucash-3.1.tar.bz2
from your home directory. Tar will create the gnucash-3.1 directory for you.

2018-04-28 Thread Dennis Powless
I think I will, thanks.

Is 3.1 mostly for the windows issues or are there linux issues too?

I've noticed when I go to extract the file, it ask for the location, so
I'll create that folder on my home directory, then extract to it.

Re: [GNC] new v3.0 install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2018-04-28 Thread John Ralls
The most common place would be to your home directory. It will create a new
directory gnucash-3.0, so you'll adjust the tail of the cmake command to
../gnucash-3.0.

I'm working on releasing 3.1 right now so you may want to wait a day and build
that release instead.

Re: [GNC] quotes - internal server error

I'm guess then that the problem is somewhere in your perl http stack. Unless
you're comfortable with perl development the simplest thing to try next is to
uninstall perl and re-run the "Install Online Quotes Tool" in the GnuCash
folder of the Start Menu.

Re: [GNC] ofx/qfx import to V3

2018-04-28 Thread Deken via gnucash-user

 David,
Thanks!
I was able to get and install the April 28 build.
Avast AV doesn't like either the installer or the installed executable to
begin with but satisfies itself that both are malware free.

This version does import a QFX file, however I did still see some issues:
- the "Select an OFX/QFX file to process" dialog box had no apparent means of
browsing to the file, nor of entering any sort of path to the file. It did
open the last location I imported from. So, to test, I moved the current import
to that location - no problem.
- the import process seemed to be less adept at matching transactions than it
has been previously, though without going back and testing a previous version I
can't be completely certain. However, I've been using Gnucash and this feature
in particular for a long time and I'm pretty sure. (I just went to check how
long by opening an old Gnucash archive - the "File/Open" dialog box also does
not allow browsing to another directory or entry of a path) (opened the oldest
gnucash file I have available. I've been using it since at least 2007 and this
is the first issue I've experienced - huge thank you to all that have made that
possible!)

 - I believe that a couple of transactions that were matched were also
duplicated in the register. The file auto-saved so I can't readily back out
the changes to confirm this...

Thank you again.

Deken

2018-04-28 Thread John Ralls
Hmm, something I missed from your first post: You said that "The reply to [perl
gnc-fq-check] is 1.47".
It should return
("1.47" "adig" "aex" "aiahk" "alphavantage" "amfiindia" "asegr" "asia" "asx"
"australia" "bamosz" "bet" "bmonesbittburns" "bourso" "brasil" "bse" "bsero"

Did it, and you just elided the rest, or did it not return the listing of the

A moment ago I was able to refresh a link to
https://code.gnucash.org/builds/win32/maint/ and see that there is now a
build dated April 28. Perhaps you had a temporary connection issue.

[GNC] SOLVED-Re: gnucash v2.6 new install can't open on lubuntu 16.04?

2018-04-28 Thread vince

Hello Geert,

Sorry, I only saw your email now. For some reason it never came through
on the mailing list. I only saw it once I went on the forum.

Thank you so much! I did the
sudo /usr/bin/glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas as you
suggested and gnucash is up and running.

I also checked if dconf is installed and found that according to
synaptic a version called Dconf is installed which synaptic says is not
connected with the older Debian package called dconf. So, not sure if
I've got the correct version installed, but I've got gnucash working so
all's well in my world.

Many thanks for your help.

Have you tried installing that one and test the ofx import stuff ?

Typically extracting will create the directory for you. But you may need to
adapt the exact commands a bit depending on the exact file and directory names
you use on your system.

Yes, although the instructions mention a gnucash folder, not a gnucase one :)

I was not able to install the swig2.0.. says it's not available and
there is something else.

I looked and found that swig2.0 is quite old and the newer version is 3.xxx
or something.

Do I need the newer version?

so, I DL the gnucase file then extract it do I need to create the
gnucase file?

I would then cd to the gnucase folder and run the second part of the
directions.

No. The target is where you want gnucash to be installed. The downloaded
gnucash file should be extracted into a directory named "gnucash". And the
cmake command as used in these instructions should be run from within a
directory *next* to this "gnucash" directory, not from a directory *inside*
it. You can read the generic instructions higher on that page to understand
all the details.

Good luck!

Re: [GNC] quotes - internal server error

2018-04-28 Thread John Ralls
Please remember to copy the list on all replies.

I tried munging my key and found that alphavantage didn’t seem to care, so
that’s probably not a source of the problem.

You could try the URL
https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=TIME_SERIES_DAILY=compact=json=XXX=JNJ

In your browser, replacing XXX with your API key. You should get a
several-mont JSON dump of JNJ price history.

If that works then I’d suspect that something is wrong with the networking
setup in your perl installation. Running gnc-fq-update might help.

“Internal server error” usually means that the server you’re trying to connect
to--i.e. alphavantage--had a problem with the request. It worked for me just

[GNC] new v3.0 install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2018-04-28 Thread Dennis Powless
I just installed ubuntu 18.04 LTS on my dual boot machine. I want to
install v 3.0 and the new ubuntu only has 2.6.19 in the software center.
What is the best method to get v3.0 installed instead of the older version?

I see instructions here
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Building

And scrolled down I see these instructions. I'm assuming this will
work for 18.04LTS?
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus)

To build Gnucash 3.0 from source you need to install following packages:

sudo apt-get install cmake
sudo apt-get install libtool libltdl-dev
sudo apt-get install libglib2.0-dev
sudo apt-get install icu-devtools libicu-dev
sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev
sudo apt-get install guile-2.0 guile-2.0-dev
sudo apt-get install swig2.0
sudo apt-get install libxml++2.6-dev
sudo apt-get install libxslt1-dev
sudo apt-get install xsltproc
sudo apt-get install libgtest-dev
sudo apt-get install google-mock
sudo apt-get install gtk+3.0
sudo apt-get install libgtk-3-dev
sudo apt-get install libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37
sudo apt-get install libwebkit2gtk-4.0-dev
sudo apt-get install libdbi-dev

mkdir build-cmakecd build-cmake
cmake -D CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/gnucash-cmake -D
WITH_AQBANKING=OFF -D WITH_OFX=OFF ../gnucash
make
sudo make install

I'm assuming I would then change the with the downloaded gnucash
file, right?

I haven't seen any other answers to this.

Bruce, GnuCash creates a lock file when you open a data file, to prevent
two sessions from editing the same file at the same time. GnuCash
deletes the lock file when you close the data file. But if GnuCash
crashes, this does not happen, and the lock file remains.

Therefore, when you open GnuCash and it finds the lock file already
exists, that could mean that another GnuCash is running or that the
previous run crashed. GnuCash doesn't know which of those is true, and
it puts up the message. If you know that you have no other GnuCash
sessions running, then "Open anyway" is your appropriate choice.

I remember reading this in the Tutorial and Concepts Guide, but I can't
remember where. If you haven't read the Guide, you really ought to IMHO.

No, that is as it should be, the software itself is owned by root. Your
accounts file will be owned by you, but that will likely be in a subfolder

The "file is locked" message is what you get when gnucash can't close your
file properly. And if gnucash crashes it obviously hasn't be able to do that.
So after a crash this is a normal message.

There are several known crasher bugs in gnucash 3.0 on Windows. You could try
again with a more recent nightly build
https://code.gnucash.org/builds/win32/maint/gnucash-3.0-2018-04-27-git-3.0-94-g74fd6e046+.setup.exe
This is not an official release, but it has all the changes so far that will
go into the next release. Most of those changes are directly addressing the
windows issues.

Can you let us know how it works for you ?

Alternatively you can also choose to install the latest gnucash 2.6 release
which is 2.6.21 which can be found on the Downloads page of the gnucash
website.

[GNC] gnucash v2.6 new install can't open on lubuntu 16.04?

2018-04-28 Thread vince

Hello the list,
I've installed the above version of gnucash on lubuntu 16.04,(also a new
install) and cannot get gnucash to open. This is on a older Dell
precision workstation 390.

The gnucash.trace report in /var says "* 08:22:27 OTHER
Settings schema 'org.gnucash.general' is not installed"

This is something that's never happened before and I've used gnucash
since ubuntu 7.04.
I'm running the same version of gnucash on a netbook using Bodhi Linux v
4.5 and it's working perfectly!

Any help or suggestions would really be appreciated.

Vince
