Re: [GNC] Up grade from 2.6.xx to 3.1
Dennis, As dpkg tells you, only the config files are on the system. Those are not removed by a ‘remove’ command, you need to purge as the command response advises. Try ONE of the following: (as far as I’m aware, these three produce identical results in this case) sudo apt purge gnucash sudo apt-get remove --purge gnucash sudo dpkg remove --purge gnucash If you still get those hits on whereis, then you might need to remove those manually a la: sudo rm -irv /etc/gnucash sudo rm -irv /usr/include/gnucash sudo rm -irv /usr/share/gnucash Those commands will remove all of the contents AND the respective /gnucash directories. (that’s what the -r option does. I included the -i option for ‘interactive’ so you have to confirm each removal. If you don’t want this, leave the ‘i’ out. The -v option is for ‘verbose’ which will write out to the terminal as each file and directory is removed. You can leave it off as well if you prefer.) Be VERY careful with those last three commands. Make sure you have them exactly as they appear. (which is why I included the ‘-i’ option, so you could catch a mistake in the path.) [GNC] Unable to retrieve stock price quotes - Australia
I'm running Gnucash 3.1 with Finance Quote 1.47 on a Windows 10 PC. Up until today I was running 2.6. For years I was able to update stock prices no problem. This stopped working in 2.6 some time ago. I updated to 3.1 hoping that would fix it. BTW I had to install Strawberry Perl to get the "Install price retrieval..." working. I've tried all the options available in the Security editor without success. One odd thing is that if I choose AlphaVantage, US 'single' (I do have an API key) for a few stocks they do not show up in the "Unable to retrieve..." list BUT a new price is NOT added to the price database. Would greatly appreciate some help with this. You can clear enough to get a clean build by deleting //gnucash, where is the root of the installation--the parent of bin/, etc/, /, and share/. is whatever your system calls its library directory: In the old days it was just lib/, but some systems use lib64/ and some use lib/x86_64-gnu-linux or something similar. For example, if you’re installing into $HOME/.local and lib isn’t mangled on your system, rm -rf $HOME/.local/lib/gnucash will delete all of the loadable modules and precompiled guile modules so they don’t interfere with the build. [GNC] current-vs-average report & 3.x
Hello! Before attempting to fix it myself, I'm curious if someone fixed current-vs-average report to make it work with GC-3.x? I'll be interested for YTD-budget as well, but I believe that Chris has done some work in regard... Re: [GNC] Unable to select Drive to Save As
I think that this could also be connected. Create Invoice > Print > Export PDF The save window flashes up and then disappears. Program locks up. If you do something else like open a browser then go back to Gnucash the save window comes back. Re: [GNC] Up grade from 2.6.xx to 3.1
Dennis It is probbaly a good idea to uninstall the previous build of 2.6.x before upgrading. With the changes between 2.6 and 3.1 there may have been changes in the libraries/library names such that some older libraries may not necessarilybe overwritten. How to remove it will depend upon how you installed it and in which location you installed it. If you built it from sources and you have retained the source directory, try changing to the top level source directory or a build directory if there is one in a terminal and then type make uninstall if it was installed under your home directory or sudo make uninstall if it was installed to a system directory like /usr/local or/opt. If you didn't retain the source directory and/or build directory then things get a bit harder. One strategy would be to download the sources for that version again. Follow the instructions for buidling that version apart from the "make install" or "sudo make install" at the end. This will recreate a manifest file. Then issue the "make install" or "sudo make install" in the top level source directory (if you built them with a build directory then issue the command in that build directory.) Both Cmake and autotools can be used on the later 2.6.x versions. You can tell where Gnucash is installed using whereis gnucash in a shell to list the locations that gnucash was installed to. If the first part of the path is /usr/local or /opt or another system location ( that is one not under the /home/dennis tree) then you will need to use sudo as a prefix to make uninstall. I am not sure if whereis locates installs under your home directory however. If you installed using apt then sudo apt-get remove gnucash should do the job. If you installed from a debian package you downloaded sudo dpkg -r gnucash should also remove it There are instructions on the The BuildUbuntu16.04 wiki page has a section for Uninstalling Gnucash as above. It also has a link and a link to another which has instructions for manually removing Gnucash. I need to add more to that page but the manual removal instructions there do work. Note you need to use sudo before any commands if installed in a system location. I would try the instructions above first however as manually deleting things from system directories can be hazardous to your system. [GNC] Transactions for two different banks not downloading
Hello, Thank you for your help. The banks are not associated with each other. This is the first time I've had this problem. I have not changed log-in info for either bank. My online connection is excellent. There have been many transactions as viewed at the banks' sites. Here is the error message: I look forward to hearing from you. Gnucash has been serving my needs well for years and I would like to continue to use it!
