Re: [GNC] Gnucash 3.1 and fedora 28

2018-05-26 Thread maniek
As a quick workaround, I saved my transactions, accounts to XML under 2.6.x
and imported to 3.1 and saved to the database. It worked.

Looks like one of my databases is not recognized by 3.1.

fine.

I did again a test on fedora 28 and GnuCash erases all records during

Re: [GNC] Credit Card Charge Decreasing Account Balance

2018-05-26 Thread DaveC49
What version of Gnucash are you using and what platform is it running on.

When you look at an individual charge transaction, the balance after the
transaction should be larger than the balance before the transaction with
the reverse for a payment. Whether that balance is shown as a negative or
positive number will depnd on the Reverse Balance Accounts setting in
Edit->Preferenes on the Account tab.

Changing the preference to have Reverse Balance Accounts-None checked should
result in the balance being shown as negative value, which increases in the
negative direction when a charge is added (where the sum of the charges is
greater than the sum of the payments to the account) and should become less
negative when a payment is recorded I.e. for a liability account the normal
balance is negative with this preference selection.

With the Reverse Balance Accounts preference Credit Accounts checked (which
is the default setting), the balance value will be positive (when the value
of all charges to the account is larger than the value of all payments) and
a charge to the account should increase this positive value and a payment
should decrease the value.

One other comment is if you change the preference settings you may have to
force the register to be redrawn with the new settings. A simple way to do
this is to change to another register and change back. The redraw seems to
be done automatically for the change of the above settings, but not if you
change the preference for formal accounting labels.

It sounds like your transactions add up to more payments than charges. Did
you forget to include an opening balance if it is an existing charge card
with prior history?

[GNC] Credit Card Charge Decreasing Account Balance

2018-05-26 Thread christine.m via gnucash-user
Ive added a credit card account under the liabilities section, and have
imported my transactions. Payments to the card are showing in the Payments
column, and charges to the card are showing in the charges column; however,
payments are increasing the balance of the credit card account, and charges
are decreasing the balance. I've tried reversing the account in the
preferences setting, and all this does is change the balance to negative,
the payment/ charge still affects the balance reverse. Can anyone help me
out here?

Hi David,

Glad you found your data file!
Any idea why you didn't find it by searching?

This is a regularly recurring problem, and I have an idea about another way
to solve this next time.
My idea is based on the fact that the list of recent files (in Windows) and
their full pathname is kept in the Windows Registry in
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GSettings\org\gnucash\history].
You could restore, from a backup taken during the time you were using the
missing data file, the registry files (C:\Windows\System32\config...) TO
ANOTHER LOCATION and the examine them to determine where your missing file
should be.

I wasn't sure how to do that so I asked and received an answer:
https://superuser.com/questions/1326122/how-to-restore-and-dump-a-windows-re
gistry-without-overwriting-the-current-regis

I know this is too technical for most users but for the reward of getting a
missing data file back, it may be worth getting the help of a more technical
friend.

I'm going to soon release a new version of my BackupGnuCash app [1] which
will include a dump of the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GSettings\org\gnucash
registry entries as a .reg file, so it will soon be easier to find missing
files if you use my tool.

[GNC] V#3 Windows scroll bars

2018-05-26 Thread Chris Good
Hi,

Users of Gnucash 3 may have noticed that the scrollbars are used differently
in GnuCash version 3 to version 2.

If you now click above (or below) the current position bar in the

scrollbar, it takes you to the place in the window which is proportional to
where in the scroll bar you click, rather

than up (or down) 1 screen full.

This is due to the change from gtk2 to gtk3.

There is a gtk3 setting which can be changed to revert back to the old
behaviour but this is currently not working for GnuCash.

I have raised bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=796421 - GTK3
settings.ini not being used

so that hopefully this can be fixed.

In the meantime. you can revert back to the old behaviour by using
shift-left-click or middle-button-click instead of just left click.

I have tested this in Windows 10. This should also work in Linux. Not sure
about Mac sorry.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=796117
, which is next on my list.
The bit about it only being the newest database is interesting. Can you try
running GnuCash with --log gnc.backend.dbi=debug? That will still eat your
database but it will write to the trace file every query, which should give
some clues about what’s happening.

Re: [GNC] gnucash can not type in any chinese

2018-05-26 Thread John Ralls
Well, there are 11 MacOS Chinese input methods, so I picked Pinyin-Simplified.
When I type some syllables in the register the picker bar will flash and
immediately disappear. I suppose that’s what you mean by “blink-blink”. It
works fine in the account edit dialog, so bug 795253 may be cross-platform
after all.

Please remember to copy the list on all replies.

Which input method are you trying to use?

[GNC] Gnucash 3.1 and fedora 28

2018-05-26 Thread maniek
Hello,

I've been using GnuCash for 6 years now. Today I upgraded my fedora from 27
to 28 so GnuCash as well (from 2.6.x to 3.1). Unfortunately, it does not
work correctly. My database is automatically cleaned. After typing a
password to the database, I can see an only blank page.

I generated a gnucash.trace and I found:

00:34:16 INFO [query_transactions] Query SELECT * FROM
transactions returned no results

the most interesting thing is that after restoring the database from a
backup I can run above command and see all transactions. Then I open
gnucash, see blank page, close and again output of above command returns:
MariaDB [gnucash_2018]> SELECT * FROM transactions;
Empty set (0.00 sec)

GnuCash or sth erases all records from the databases.
I have this problem only with my latest database (for 2018, created a few
months ago and worked properly under 2.6.x), old databases such 2017, 2016
are opening correctly and no data is erased.
MariaDB version is 10.2.14-1.fc28.x86_64

Any idea?

After I add the line you mentioned to
Gnucash.app/Contents/Resources/etc/gnucash/environment
I can see the response of Gnucash3.1 has changed but not as expected.
The iput method blink blink. After I press a button, the input method blink
once and disappear.
After all, I can not choose the chinese character and get all English character
