Re: [GNC] Posting sales in multiple currencies (2.6.21)

2018-06-02 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Good point, I didn’t think of that. And as Geert described, GC is designed to
use separate A/R (and presumably A/P) for each currency and likely for that
very reason among others.

Re: [GNC] Profit and Loss Spreadsheet

2018-06-02 Thread Adrien Monteleone
John,

I’ll have to interpret a bit, but my guess is you want a report that shows
multiple months worth of P data, consolidated with each month in it’s own
column. (and maybe even a YTD or QTD column at the end)

There is no such report.

You can run a multi-column report and put each column as a different month’s
P, but that will repeat the account name header column.

More than likely, you’ll need to either export and import, or copy/paste
individual months into a spreadsheet and work from there. (a simple select-all,
copy/paste is usually sufficient)

Adrien

I don’t think you would actually want to do this. The delay between posting
the invoice and receiving a payment leaves a huge potoetmtial for
discrepancy between any conversion done at post time and the conversion
done at the time of deposit.

I have several A/R accounts now, but wires from my clients all go into an
account in my home currency.. so when I do the payment I just enter the
conversion rate that my bank gave me at deposit time and it all balances
out without having to go back and correct anything after the fact.

Thanks for your help with this, I really appreciate it. The new one you sent
back gives a different error:

An error occurred when processing the template:

Something in the invoice needs to be tweaked a bit, I'm guessing.

In order to get the invoices working previously, I had to put custom
.css and .scm files in the
/usr/share/gnucash/guile-modules/gnucash/report/ folder, which I now see
no longer exists. So I did some poking around, and found that the files
are now in /usr/share/gnucash/scm/gnucash/report/. They were already
there without me adding them. Not sure if this is the reason for the
error or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is preventing me from
sending invoices to my customers.

Thanks much, Reidun

[GNC] Add Price Quotes

2018-06-02 Thread Robin Chattopadhyay
Hi-

Using GC 3.1 with SQLite backend on Linux Mint 18.3...

When running "gnucash --add-price-quotes ~/Documents/file.gnucash", the
prices are loaded but the process doesn't appear to terminate.

The trace file doesn't having anything other than MESSG or INFO entries.

I only notice because I'm getting the lock message when I start gnucash for
regular data entry.

Thoughts on what's going on?

Thanks,
Robin

Re: [GNC] Downloading transaction using AQBanking - fails after upgrade.

2018-06-02 Thread John Ralls
I haven’t had any trouble using AQBanking with 3.1 on MacOS, but I download
only bank information, no stocks.

If it’s hanging you can find the process in Applications:Utilities:Activity
Monitor and then click the little gear at the top left and pick “sample
process” to see what it’s up to.

Re: [GNC] AlphaVantage Stock Quotes

2018-06-02 Thread John Ralls
From https://www.alphavantage.co/documentation/
:
"The batch stock quotes API enables the querying of multiple stock quotes with
a single API request, updated realtime. It may serve as a lightweight
alternative to our core stock time series APIs above (which have richer content
but are symbol-specific).

“Given the specifications of our data provider (IEX), we currently only offer
US stock quotes during US market hours through this API. If you would like to
query international stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds traded on major global
exchanges, please refer to our core stock time series APIs”

The documentation might be wrong or Erik and I might be misinterpreting it, but
IIUC that’s what he’s relying on.

[GNC] Cash Flow report

2018-06-02 Thread Martijn Heuts
Hello,
I have the new version of GNU.
When I look at the options for the build-in 'cash flow' report,there is the
option to turn "Always show sub-accounts" on and off.
When I turn the option off, the total 'money in' amount is differentas when
it's on, even though the same accounts are checked.
When the option is checked, the report automatically includes these
accounts:Assets
Assets:Accounts ReceivableAssets:Checking AccountAssets:Checking
AccountAssets:Current Assets and subaccountsAssets:Current Assets and
subaccountsImbalance-USDOrphan-USD
When it's not checked, the report automatically includes these accounts:Assets
Assets:Checking AccountAssets:Current Assets and selected
subaccountsImbalance-USDOrphan-USD
I am not sure why it shows 'Assets:checking account' and 'Assets and sub
accounts' twice
I made sure I didn't have Accounts Receivable highlighted/selected before
generating the report, yet it shows up in the report when I turn "always show
sub-accounts".
So leaves me with two questions:1. Is this a bug/error in the software?
2. Should accounts receivable be included if i want to know how much money my
business brought in?
Thanks and have a great day and weekend!
Martijn

Hmm, that has not been my observation but I'm sure there are some nuances,
for me it shows the last price during the trading day (as in it doesn't
show after market prices) but the call can happen any time, e.g. here is
the demo linl:
https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=BATCH_STOCK_QUOTES=MSFT,FB,AAPL=demo
and it shows MSFT, FB as of 16:01 yesterday. This is the same when I use my

It’s only live when that particular issue is trading; e.g. for a US stock
between 0930 and 1600 Eastern Time. That makes it unsuitable for F::Q.

I'm using a custom date.
And flipping back between 2.6.21 and 3.1 that date is lost (in both
directions).

2018-06-02 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Nice find.

On the report start date issue, are you using a specific custom date or one of
the presets?

Mine are all set to ’start of accounting period’ and my book’s accounting
period is set to ’start of current year’. I’m not seeing any loss of start
dates.

Perhaps some other date setting is where the issue lies.

Re: [GNC] AlphaVantage Stock Quotes

2018-06-02 Thread Alun Champion
Alphavantage does provide a batch stock api, which you only sends the
latest quote, you can send just one stock to that api call e.g. (
https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=BATCH_STOCK_QUOTES=MSFT=),
which only returns the latest value.

Re: [GNC] latest gnucash release (3.1) feedback

2018-06-02 Thread Alun Champion
Thank you all, this gave me enough information to track down and create
custom styling, having the tabs down the left side meant all the top and
bottom margin and padding was just wasted space.

Note: One minor issue I found when switching between 2.6.21 and 3.1 is that
any open reports seems to lose the start date, no idea why.

I’m on a Mac, was able to run the gtk3 inspector by running
GTK_DEBUG=interactive
/Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/MacOS/Gnucash from the command line,
which shows the various css nodes (and you can experiment with the
styling). And created a ~/Library/Application\ Support/Gnucash/gtk-3.0.css
for tight tabs:

notebook tab {
  min-height: 0px;
  margin-top: 0px;
  margin-bottom: 0px;
  padding-left: 0px;
  padding-right: 0px;
}

notebook tab box {
  padding-top: 2px;
  padding-bottom: 2px;
}

I was also able to change the colors in the reports by changing the
base_colors in
/Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/Resources/share/gnucash/scm/html-utilities.scm
.

That will probably still take a while.

What has been removed here specifically is the ability to access kvp frames
and slot directly. Kvp slots are an implementation detail of the backends and
should never have been exposed in the first place. All known uses of
qof-book-get-slots and related functions should have a higher level
alternative access function.

Unfortunately the error message doesn't show exactly which slot your invoice
report was trying to access, so I can't readily tell what the replacement
function should be.

Considering the issue happens in an invoice report I suspect the report is
trying to access company information or fancy date info. I haven't seen your
original report (it looks like you sent it directly to Chris), but I expect
that's what he replaced in his updated report.

Geert

No. Gnucash was designed to require a different A/R account per currency. The
invoices will be posted and printed in the customer's currency. Gnucash will
do conversions between that currency and any entry/tax account's currency and
between the customer's currency and any payment transfer account's currency.
