Re: [GNC] gnucash freezing
How " does not work on windows 7. Neither download of gnucash. " Exactly what does happen? Do you see an error message? which of the operating systems are you describing? Ubuntu requires a different download than Windows, and 18.04 is very new. Some programs might not work on that release. Not sure which version of GnuCash has been packaged for Ubuntu18.04. [GNC] Billing employee expenses back to a customer
I'm entering an employee expense voucher that includes some receipts that are billable back to a customer. If I'm reading the documentation correctly, I should be able to enter a customer name in the "Default chargeback project - Customer" field, and then mark individual line items as billable in order for them to show up in the customer account. However, when I place the cursor in the customer field and try to type I get system beeps, indicating that I can't type in that field. And the Edit button next to the field doesn't seem to do anything. Have I missed a step somewhere? I have not set up any Jobs.. do I need to do that in order to bill back? A side note.. the documentation text for the Customer and Job fields is identical to each other in both the v2.6 and v3 docs. It looks like the Customer description was C into the Job description and then not updated. ___ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user If you are using Nabble or Gmane, please see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists for more information. - Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. Re: [GNC] Where is the theme selection in 3.x?
I would have to agree. Leaving all the Windows users to deal with a single, not very appealing interface scheme is tragic. It almost makes me want to go back to 2.x until this situation has been dealt with. 2.x was very stable and I had been able to find a theme I liked. For the sake of those Windows users who use this program on a daily basis, I think this should be a development imperative. I get that this program was born on Linux and is developed and maintained there, and that's perfectly brilliant. So, too, is a similar situation for my favorite recreational program - the X-Plane flight simulator. It was written in the Mac world and has version for other platforms. Despite it's Mac origins, its most used platform (and highest performance platform) is Windows. I cannot devote hardware to a Linux box just for GnuCash, and wouldn't want to have to go to another machine to do my accounting anyway. Although I could spool up a virtual machine with a Linux distro in Oracle VM VirtualBox (and already have two) I find that they inevitably blow up for some unknown reason. I just cannot justify putting my financial data on a precarious virtual machine. Please, Please, Please don't let the Windows users fall to second-class status. That, IMHO, would be a huge mistake. Re: [GNC] Saved Report Configurations Missing After Upgrade to v3
Hi Geert, I located the trace files. Not sure why, if they are such a valuable diagnostic tool, that they are stored in the AppData Temp folder. I also found that every report I've looked at since upgrading to 3.x has a corresponding html file in that Temp folder, too. It might be worth reconsidering the location for those files along with a retention schedule. But anyway... Oh, and another suggestion - the trace file should have a version stamp, not just a time stamp. I can't really tell the exact point at which I upgraded by just the time stamp. I believe it was early in the day on either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week, but a version stamp would completely eliminate doubt. I only have 13 trace files dated from 2018.06.04 to today, 2018.06.08. These dates to include the upgrade from 2.?.19 to 3.0-118-gd2ef5fd0f+ (2018-04-28) The vast majority of trace files only say: * 05:58:17 WARN Could not spawn perl: Failed to execute child process (No such file or directory) One of them pre-upgrade (I'm pretty sure) says: * 06:30:48 WARN Could not spawn perl: Failed to execute child process (No such file or directory) * 06:31:40 WARN Could not find the icon 'gtk-file'. The 'hicolor' theme was not found either, perhaps you need to install it. You can get a copy from: http://icon-theme.freedesktop.org/releases >From the morning of Wed 2018.06.06 which may be the time of upgrade: * 06:25:32 WARN Could not spawn perl: Failed to execute child process (No such file or directory) * 06:44:17 WARN Could not locate file AUTHORS * 06:44:17 WARN Could not locate file DOCUMENTERS * 06:44:17 WARN Could not locate file LICENSE * 07:07:15 CRIT [gnc_ui_file_access_response_cb()] Invalid response The very next trace file, after I accidentally left the program running all day says: * 10:36:13 WARN Could not spawn perl: Failed to execute child process (No such file or directory) * 18:45:07 CRIT [GncDbiSqlConnection::begin_transaction()] BEGIN transaction failed() * 18:45:07 CRIT [GncSqlBackend::commit()] begin_transaction failed The one that was apparently created just now when I started the program says: * 06:11:57 WARN Could not spawn perl: Failed to execute child process (No such file or directory) * 06:15:05 CRIT [gnc_ui_file_access_response_cb()] Invalid response There was no popup about moving metadata following the upgrade. Re: [GNC] Reconcile Problem
Hi Ron, and thank you for the welcome. Thanks to the messages I received from you and Derek I was able to find out where my problem was. As I mentioned in my post I am still trying to get my head around the program, and no doubt this will not be the last of my posts. Welcome to the list. With the account register open, click on the "view" item in the menu bar, then in the dialog that opens click on "filter by". Then click on "status" in that menu bar which opens a selection dialog. Clear the checks from all but "Reconciled". Then click on OK. Putting a check in the "save filter" box will make the selection persistent from session to session, otherwise the filter will revert to the default (all categories selected) the next time you open the account register. You'll have to set the filter for each account register individually. Ron Morse.
