There are two things you can do: Always update the matches and from time to time use Tools>Import Match Editor to remove obsolete matches that might lead the match algorithm astray. If nearly all of your transactions will match descriptions exactly with their predecessors then the non-Bayesian matcher may work better, but in all other cases the Bayesian one will be better in the long run, though it requires more training at the outset to start getting good matches and needs to be maintained by reviewing matches and correcting mismatches *in the matcher* to keep on track. [GNC] automatic reconnaissance of a transaction
Hello When I import transactions from my bank accounts, some transactions, very few in fact, are recognized by GnuCash. It used to be better at recognizing but I find it's less and less. Is there a way to help that "reconnaissance" ? Some transactions I am registering are *always* posted in the same category (eg. Expenses->Groceries) but it keeps on not being recognized. Unfortunately the GnuCash development team is too small to maintain its own custom css style to adjust for the design choices made by the Gtk developers. We used to have a theme selector for 2.6, but that was no longer supported either after Gtk switched to version 3. If you happen to be on linux (you didn't mention your platform) you could try to use the gnome tweak tool to install a different gtk3 theme. You can download plenty from https://www.gnome-look.org/browse/cat/135/order/latest/ I don't know of a similar tool for the other platforms but it should be possible to install a different Gtk theme on these platforms as well, albeit manually. If you find a nice predefined gtk theme that uses layout choices that better fit your requirements you could try that route rather than tweaking css directly. I cannot comment on why that doesn't work in release 3.7 but it sure is a handy feature in the 2.6 series that is new to me. I hope it will get fixed. [GNC] Price Database - can't just type ticker symbol, must scroll to select
I'm on Windows 10, build 1903 running Build ID: 3.7+(2019-09-07) Finance::Quote: 1.47 (I don't use the downloading of prices) I'm manually entering prices in the Price Database. Apparently, the tab order of the fields skips over the field value and will only land on the down arrow to the right of the field. (yes, the focus will land on the other fields in the window, just not the value for the security ticker/name). Thus, I cannot type the security symbol to have the list select it once I type in enough unique characters. I have to use the down arrow to open the list and scroll through it with the mouse to get to the security I want - many of mine are at the bottom of the list - tedious. This used to work in 2.x series of GnuCash - I could tab to the security symbol/name list, start typing a symbol and the list would open up and scroll to the first matching symbol. Usually with only 3-4 characters typed I'd be at the intended security and could press Enter and it would select it into the Security value field, and I could tab on from there to put in the date and price. :George Sebastpol, CA ___ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user If you are using Nabble or Gmane, please see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists for more information. - Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. Another option if it works for your screen is to switch the tabs to vertically instead of horizontally. I’ve found I can fit more tabs that way, and they are always readable. Re: [GNC] Gnucash on MacOs Catalina
This is a common Mac issue. From /Applications, right-click the app and choose ‘open’, then confirm you want to open when MacOS asks you. It should start. If not, simply left-click again as normal and it will start. Of course, I’m presuming you’ve dragged GnuCash.app from the dmg to /Applications already. (that is how you ‘install’ it) Regards, Adrien > On Dec 3, 2019 w49d337, at 12:06 AM, joshn268 wrote: > > I just downloaded 3.7 and when I try to open the new version, after selecting > "open" from the security menu, the app just shuts down and never opens. Re: [GNC] Import de transaction
Florence, This is an English list, so please excuse my non-French reply. (I’m not certain if there is a GnuCash list in French. I know there are GnuCash lists in other languages) There should be no need to start over with an export and a clean book. Simply delete the closing entries generated by the “Close Books” feature and you’ll be back where you were before closing. The easiest place to find them will be in your Equity account(s). To also answer your issue on importing an export, older versions of GnuCash can’t do this. (You didn’t indicate which version or OS you were using) If that is really needed, then first, upgrade to version 2.6.21 (if not using it already) and then save a backup of your file. Then upgrade to version 3.7 which is the current version. You will then be able to export your transactions and then re-import them into a new book.
