Re: [GNC] Hard-Copy Report Output

2023-06-09 Thread rsbrux via gnucash-user
Thanks for the advice, but these (custom) reports consist of pie charts and an
accompanying legend.
Without the graphics they are useless.
The Html export still included them as of GC 2.19.

Have you tried exporting the report as HTML, opening in a *browser*, and then
printing from there? (I see you say it doesn't include 'graphics'
but which graphics are you referring to? Most reports, rather than charts,
don't contain any graphics save for perhaps table borders which render just
fine for me in exported reports where used.)

Also consider select-all/copy/paste when viewing a report to a spreadsheet app
and printing from it.

Either of those should work. (but I agree, printing from GnuCash should work
too) Last I recall, the issue with GnuCash printing has to do with webkit. The
details, I forget.

Adrien

Re: [GNC] How to Upgrade Old GnuCash Version to Current Version

2023-06-09 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Agreed, that should be in the core Documentation. But of course, someone
is going to have to write it.

Maybe file a documentation bug for tracking?

I'd think too, that at least for now, a link in the Read.me included
with each release to the upgrading procedure on the Wiki would be nice.
(that doc covers 'installation' so I would expect to find 'upgrading'
there too.)

OK, where is that documented? If the current version of GnuCash won't work
with older data file versions it should display an error message without
opening the file.

Re: [GNC] How to search for a word in a description in an invoice

2023-06-09 Thread Adrien Monteleone
You would need to uncheck 'consolidate splits on posting' when posting
the bill/invoice. There is also a default preference for this.

With consolidated splits, you don't get individual line items in account
registers, but rather one split per affected account.

Without consolidating splits, each line item appears in affected account
registers as it appears in the invoice - that is - every one of them,
even if they all are posted to the same account.

This makes searching line item data and reporting on line item data,
possible.

You can of course, unpost and repost the bill/invoice in question with
the option unchecked.

Adrien

How do I find a description with an inventory tag when I sell that same

When I start a search from accounts assets for inventory tag [cmp]  I
find the original purchase, my COGS entry, but not the invoice line item...

I have never been able to get a satisdactory hard-copy output of reports

In GnuCash 2.19 I was at least able to  export to HTML which gave me
more control over the printing process, and even allowed me to edit the
HTML if needed and had the added benefit of giving me a digital copy to
archive.

However, in GC 4.14 under Ubuntu Studio 22.04 LTS, the exported HTML no
longer includes the graphics, making many of the exported reports useless.

I have therefore again tried printing directly from GC, but the printout
is always in portrait mode, resulting in truncation of the output.

I have tried setting landscape mode in both the GC "Page Setup" dialog
and in the "Page Setup" dialog of the "Print Report" dialog, but both
are ignored.

I have also tried "Any Printer", "Print to LPR" and "MFCJ5955DW" (my
printer, connected via LAN) in the GC "Page Setup" dialog, to no effect.

I also treid "Print to file", but the resulting PDF is also portrait
mode and truncated, even though I specifed landscape in both the GC
"Page Setup" dialog and the "Page Setup" tab of the "Print Report" dialog.

How can I get a usable hard-copy report?
