interesting, somebody just reported on
https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=799086#c18 that the 470.223.02 driver
fixed it for him.

Is the workaround you're referring to WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 flatpak
run org.gnucash.GnuCash ?

OK, following up, maybe one last time on this

Seems like this is a bug. It worked fine before, now it doesn't. Is
there a way to submit a bug to the Gnucash team?

I used to have my cash balance in the Brokerage account, but somewhere
along the line I found it "cleaner" (?) to use something like the
following structure for my various investment accounts (Brokerage,
IRAs, 401(k)s)

*Assets*

*Investments*

*Brokerage Account*

*  = Cash Account =   <-- an account of type "Bank"*

*Security Account A  <-- Stock or Mutual Fund
*

*Security Account B  <-- Stock or Mutual Fund*

*etc.

This structure has worked very well for me. I use the "=" characters
around the Cash Account name to force this account to be sorted to the
top of the list in the sub-accounts. When I changed the structure, I
did something like this:

(1) Added the Bank account to hold my cash balance

(2) Moved all the transactions in the top level "Brokerage Account"
(or whatever it is called) to this new Bank account.

(3) Changed the top level Brokerage Account to be a Placeholder
account (to keep me from habitually entering transactions into it).

It was kind of a pain to move the transactions, but that's what tea
and coffee are for, I suppose...

Sorry, I don't know Macs, so I can't help with detailed troubleshooting.
Two things to check and report as a starting point for someone else:

(1) Are you closing GC from the GC window, as opposed to using some sort
of operating-system feature to close it?

(2) Does the last-modified date on your .gcm file change when you close GC?

Check permissions on your .gcm file, and on the folder or directory that
contains it. For instance, if your main database file is XYX.GnuCash,
the .gcm file is XYX.GnuCash.gcm. It contains the geometry of the
Accounts panel, among other things.

According to
 your .gcm
file is located in USER_DATA_HOME/GnuCash/books, and according to
 USER_DATA_HOME
is /Users//Library/Application Support. (On OS X 10.6 and
older, replace Application Support with Applications Defaults.

[GNC] Additional 'Accounts' columns not being saved on closing program

2023-11-04 Thread G R Hewitt
Gnucash 5.4
MacOs High Sierra 10.13.6

Hello,

I have been unable to find a reason as to why, in the 'Accounts' tab,
the additional column 'Total (Period)', in this case - or any other I
choose -
will not save when I close GnuCash, meaning I have to re-select them for
each session.

Whilst this is not the end of the world - obviously, it is annoying and any
help
in solving it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for looking. I did find some old files.

Here is the source code. Someone will have an example after all.

Best Regards,
Bruce
