Re: Duplicating Accounts?

2018-02-10 Thread Steve Isenberg via gnucash-user
Adrien, that was it.I exported the accounts to a CSV. Edited the file, removed
all accounts but the one I wanted to duplicate. Edited those account lines with
the new name and imported back into GNUCash. BAM! Just what I was after. :)

Thanks much!Steve

I thought perhaps the route to go would be create a new hierarchy template,
but it seems that is not possible, at least from within the software. Then
I looked at exporting and importing an account tree, but again, while
export is possible, I don't see how to import a partial tree.

Best of luck.

Adrien

If you delete a higher level account, you'll get a dialog asking if you
want to delete the subs also or transfer them under another account.

You could export the account tree, open that in gnucash, delete all the
accounts you don't want (they will all be empty of course) and re-export.
I don't know whether you can delete a top level account and all sub
accounts in one go or not, if you can then that might be noticeably quicker
than re-entering them.

Duplicating Accounts?

2018-02-08 Thread Steve Isenberg via gnucash-user

I figured out how to do this once before and now for thelife of I cannot
remember. I am trying to duplicate an expense account and allof its
sub-accounts, with a new name of course, and zero balances.

This is not a transfer of funds and I'm not duplicatingtransactions. It is
basically a copy of one account hierarchy to a new expenseaccount hierarchy.

Anyone remember how to do this without creating a newaccount and eight new
sub-accounts?

Thanks
