I have not heard of problems with USB readonly on Ubuntu Mate 18.04, I
suggest you ask on the ubuntu users list

most mailer software, I am copying the list on this.

So it is not a Gnucash problem, it is to do with your operating system.  Which
OS and version are you using?

Both computer and laptop or ubuntu 18.04 mate, and have the same user name and

Is it read only in the file manager or just in GC?

Re: [GNC] copying files

2018-05-31 Thread DaveC49
Varda,
I travel with a laptop and use a desktop at home. If you have internet
access while travelling I have had no problem with putting the GnuCash files
in a Dropbox account synced to both the desktop and laptop. You can work
without internet access and it syncs next time access is available. Only
problem is it doesn't cope well with GnuCash open on both machines
simultaneously to the extent that the file copy in the Dropbox on the
machine where GnuCash is last closed will overwrite any changes made on the
other machine. Mitigates against losing a USB.
I am using Linux Mint Cinnamon basd on Ubuntu 16.04 and have had no problems
with USB's being mounted readonly with it so as Adrein suggested it may be a
Mate problem.

Re: [GNC] copying files

2018-05-30 Thread Adrien Monteleone
I thought Ubuntu fixed that problem. There was a long standing bug concerning
USB devices mounting as read-only. (a flash card is mounted under the USB
subsystem) It may still be hanging around on some systems, especially if you
upgraded from 16.04 or earlier without a fresh install.

You can probably find plenty of help threads on the web about it. I’m sorry I
don’t recall off hand a quick solution short of logging out and back in. (no
need to shutdown entirely as I recall) Also, this was a Unity problem that was
due to some hold-over code from the old Gnome desktop. (Gtk+2) Since MATE
forked that code, it is possible the bug wasn’t fixed there. (yet)

Regards,
Adrien
