This bug matches to the seen behaviour.


The bug does not occur in the stable 2.4. branch which is the
recommended
branch to use.


I switched to the current 2.4 release and "gpg - - card-edit" works like
expected.

Actually a pinentry should fallback to curses if DISPLAY is not set.
But the pinentry-gnome3 (?) has some special features and I doubt that
anyone looked at it for a long time.
