[google-appengine] Re: appcfg shutdown: earlier than scheduled?

2020-05-19 Thread Linus Larsen
I just tried updating another service (I'm using Java) which now fails:

98% Application deployment failed. Message: Deployments using appcfg are no
longer supported. See https://cloud.google.com/appengine/docs/deprecations

But I can update other services, seriously Google what's going on?

Deprecated in July 30, then it's extended to August 30, but it seems you
have decided to cut the support for appcfg now?

It's still at least 2 month away, come on!.

 Thanks for your comment.

The document that you point to and other documents clearly suggest that
support for appcfg will be removed on July 30, 2020, which implies that it
 should still be supported now.

However, this does not seem to be the case as evident when trying to
deploy a new version to GAE using appcfg now.

Can you please comment on this point.

 Thanks

[google-appengine] Why all of a sudden my instance initialization taking so long and causing 429 rate exceeded for single request

2020-05-19 Thread PPG Apps

I have an app that has been running for a long time. All of a sudden a few
days ago, it is randomly (but often) taking over 10 seconds to start up and
returning 429's. It is just a basic python webapp2 application servicing a
few DB lookups. But now all of a sudden it takes forever to start up even
when it isn't doing a DB lookup. There is literally a single Android app
user and a single web user. It takes more than 10 seconds to start up and
serve a basic html page?

I'm using free quotas. I currently have it set as:

instance_class: F1
automatic_scaling:
  max_idle_instances: 1
  max_instances: 1

This worked fine for a long time. The load on it is actually less now then it
was when it was actually working properly. The quota page says I'm nowhere near
any quotas. How can I determine what changed? Did google change? Some setting
needs tweaking?

How can sometime it take leas than two seconds to instantiate and some time
more than twelve seconds? How can sometime it take ten seconds and abort with
429 while other times it take twelve seconds and still service the request?

Any help in diagnosing appreciated.

2020-05-19 Thread 'George (Cloud Platform Support)' via Google App Engine
What do you want to deploy? Is it an app to App Engine, as expected here,
or maybe Course Builder? If you are trying to deploy Course Builder, you
may profit from this Guide: How to Deploy Course Builder from Any OS

.

If you try to deploy an app to App Engine, it is advisable to run gcloud
components update first.

What is the output of gcloud info?

More information becomes available if you run: gcloud app deploy
--verbosity=debug. What is the output of this command? Prior to posting
this information here, you should edit out all private information, such as
project names or IDs, user names, and the like, as the information becomes
publicly visible.

Re: [google-appengine] Trouble to deploy and download dependencies

2020-05-19 Thread 'Olu' via Google App Engine
Please to be clear, the error is not "xcode-select --install". As far as I
know, the error message is a Compilation error building pycrypto-2.6.1.
Using xcode-select --install is just a way to fix such types of errors when
in an OSX environment. Apparently, that is not your environment as you
confirmed using a Windows environment.

That being said, in a Windows environment, there might be a number of
reasons for this error and different steps suggested on this GitHub
thread[1] I suggest you try the steps suggested and ensure that you are
running the appropriate Python Version.

Meanwhile, one of my colleagues successfully deployed the CourseBuilder to
a GCE VM by following the following steps below. I am hopeful the steps
would be helpful to those trying to deploy the CourseBuilder to a VM
environment:

1. Create a Compute Engine instance with the machine type “n1-standard-1”,
the default image and the “Allow full access to all Cloud APIs” option
enabled.

2. Connect to the instance, and use the command “sudo apt-get update &&
sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get install unzip && sudo apt-get
install -y python-dev && sudo apt-get install -y git && sudo apt-get
install -y build-essential manpages-dev”.

Note that this command may need some time, and will ask for some prompts.

3. At a point, you should encounter a blue screen, inside said screen
select the second option, then the first option, and finally “yes”.
Run the command “wget
https://github.com/google/coursebuilder-releases/blob/master/coursebuilder_1.11.001.zip?raw=true

&& unzip coursebuilder_1.11.001.zip\?raw\=true” in order to download and
unzip the coursebuilder information.

4. Run the command “bash coursebuilder/scripts/common.sh”.

5. After this, run the command “wget https://curl.haxx.se/ca/cacert.pem -O
coursebuilder_resources_1_11_001/runtime/google_appengine/lib/httplib2/httplib2/cacerts.txt”

in order to get a new certificate for Coursebuilder.

6. Finally, run the command “bash ./coursebuilder/scripts/deploy.sh
exploretice --noauth_local_webserver”. It is possible that you may be
prompted to open a link in a browser in order to authorize this operation.

2020-05-19 Thread 'Olu' via Google App Engine
For better troubleshooting of the issue, which may involve reviewing
configurations on your Project, I recommend you contact the GCP Support
Engineers[1] or you can open an issue using this link[2]. This will allow
the team to review your setup and determine what may be causing the
Intermittent issue. With the information available to me, there is no
System-wide issue with AppEngine and likewise, I see nothing wrong with
information you have provided so far.

Please reach out to the Support Engineers for further evaluation on this
issue.
