Re: [IMail Forum] sending email from Outlook Express 5

1999-10-10 Thread ## Dusty Carden

I imagine the only option you will have at this point is to set
your SMTP to Mindspring's server to get the mail delivered.
Would be the simplest solution.
I am not sure if they are doing case by case port opening or
not. Never hurts to call.

I know several other services that have been experimenting
with port 25 blocking trying to keep dial-up spammers from
abusing other servers.

Thanks, I just try to look for logical solutions before I pull
my hair out. :)

The syntax for mailall changed with 5.05.

The "Basic Command Syntax" for mailall.exe
shows is now correct. (It expects spaces between parameters.)

From the release notes.

You could try this. Move the existing mailall.exe to a backup
directory then re-apply 5.07. I think it will put it in there.

 No the version states 5.05.
 I have restarted the server.

Actually the actions does'nt make sense.

Is the 5.05 version the correct one, as I remember there had been some
problems earlier in the year when I started with Imail, that that was
fixed

[IMail Forum] Hotmail style; ISDN aware?

1999-10-10 Thread Lars Hornborg

HOTMAIL STYLE

The people at Ipswitch tell me that some of you have created Hotmail-like
sites where users can register their own accounts. We're setting up a
non-commercial community site where this needs to be implemented. I'd very
much appreciate any help in this matter.

ISDN AWARE

I just noticed that the web support for Imail doesn't accept if a user has
different IP addresses during a session. This is a problem for us ISDN
users, since we will often appear with different IP addresses each time we
klick a menu button (due to disconnect/reconnect to modem pools). Is there
any way around this?

They are still filtering port 25 to servers that are not theirs. If you
configure oe to send mail using mindspring's smtp server then it should work

Re: [IMail Forum] sending email from Outlook Express 5

1999-10-10 Thread Bill James

Bob,

What he means is to set smtp in Outlook to the mindspring server. I used
to work tech support for them sometime ago but I do not remember the server
name at this moment. It also depends if you are an original Mindspring
customer or you were brought on as an acquisition. When I left they had
300,000 users, (2 years ago) and we had to use 3 different servers
depending. The paperwork they sent you should have that info. Also in some
area's they require the return email address be one of theirs or you cannot
send.

The other thing is maybe your company server has locked down smtp ( you
mentioned it was a new setup for your company, so maybe someone is trying
things) to allow only their IP address's. Try setting smtp authentication in
OE5 using your Imail username and password and see what happens BEFORE you
make any other changes or call Mindspring

You can get Imail Instructions for your users at

Take a look at:

http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WSK-19980714-EM32.htm

I would also try to telnet to port 25 of the mail server from your

their SMTP server. Set your OE to their server for the SMTP portion.

Perhaps someone can help on this one. I have set up Windows 98 with
Outlook Express 5 at my house. Yesterday, I was receiveing AND sending
email to my accounts on my company's iMail server -- no problem. My
connection is through Mindspring. Tonight, I can still receive email from
my accounts, but when OE5 tries to send mail out, the error comes back:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'bob', Server:
'mail.sounddata.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have checked on Ipswitch's and Microsoft's sites for info. There was
one on Microsoft's that had this very error, but it talked about Dr. Soloman
being the cause, but I don't have Dr. Soloman or any anti-virus running
right now -- this system is just coming online. There was also another KB
that indicated that the SSL checkbox might get confused and that you needed
to make sure it was unchecked, exit OE and then restart. I checked it,
exited, restarted, unchecked it, exited, restarted but it still won't send.

By the way, all accounts that I have setup on this machine (except my
Mindspring address) are having this problem -- which means I'm not able to
respond to business mail here.

So, does this ring any bells -- can any offer other possibilities?

 Thanks.

 Bob Ferguson

In the web messaging manager, click on the "ignore source address" checkbox.
This was implemented for AOL users because AOL sends different IP addresses
with each request. This might be the ticket for you ISDN users also. Let us
know if it works and we will add this to our KnowledgeBase also.

I would like it. I am sure others would benefit from it too.

  Hi all

I wrote some ASP code, which utilises Persits
(http://www.persits.com)
free ASPEmail sender, to allow users to subscribe/unsubscribe to a
mailing list from a web page.

If anyone would like this, let me know and I'll email the ASP code
to
  you

Hi all

Quite a few people have asked me to send the files to them. Rather than
attach the files to this msg, I've zipped them up, called it
listsubs.zip and dropped it in our FTP server, at ftp.ait.co.za in the
pub directory. They probably need a bit of work in the design department
but they do work as is. If anyone needs help getting the Persits mail
component to work, email me off-list please.

regards,
Peter

[IMail Forum] Return Receipt...

1999-10-10 Thread Mike Zerbonia

I am having trouble consistently getting "Return Receipts". This
applies only to local users. I realize that not all email systems have
this capability.

Besides unchecking "Refuse NULL Senders" what am I missing?

RE: [IMail Forum] Customised subscribe/unsubscribe web page for list server

1999-10-10 Thread Scott Pouliot

Check www.serverobjects.com They offer a POP3 component that is rather easy
to use. I tested it with IMail before as a complete work around for web
messaging. It was too slow though :-(

[IMail Forum] Recieving mail for unknown addresses.

1999-10-10 Thread G. Mock

We are running Imail version 4 on an NT server. We
have it set up to copy all messages to an archive file. However we are receiving
mail in the archive file addressed to various servers not even close to out
address. Can anyone give me any hints as to what to check or is this normal
?

Also I understand that it can be set up to receive
messages sent to an unknown user if the server portion of the address is
correct by setting up an alias called " nobody " . I have tried to get
this to forward these messages to one of the valid addresses on the server but
cannot get it to work. Does anyone have this set up? If so can you give me any
tips as to what I might be doing wrong.

Thanks for any assistance.

George

[IMail Forum] backup mail server

1999-10-10 Thread Craig A. Isdahl

Hello Everyone,

I'm interested in knowing what everyone uses as a backup mail
server. Do you get a second copy of iMail or use a
cheaper/shareware/freeware package.

I would appreciate any suggestions on accomplishing the
following...

- provide a backup mail server if the primary iMail system goes
offline. Just so messages aren't lost - not to provide fully
functional mail/web mail access.

  - provide a "store and forward" mail server. I know iMail does this
but we currently use "Local User" SMTP security and we cannot
"store and forward" with this particular SMTP security.

I belive there was some discussion of this several weeks ago but I
cannot find anything info on it and I deleted my messages...

Thank you, Craig
