RE: [IMail Forum] Vacation Messages Overwhelm Imail Lists
I agree entirely, the list server is missing some very key features -- and I'm with you, I've wanted to see these since 4.0. We later purchased 5.0 as well, still no dice. Rather than seeing them slated for yet another major release, I'd like to see a 5.5. Too many versions with too few added features is sort of a microsoft and corel trick -- and look where it got them. :) Jonathan At 12:10 PM 11/6/99 -0800, you wrote: I've been asking for this since early 4.0 releases. Other list servers look at the headers to determine whether the e-mail is an auto-reply or vacation notification message. They filter these types of messages out before they can hit the list server and be distributed. There were virtually no improvements made to the list server functionality with the last version release (from 4.xx to 5.xx), so I'm hoping that we will see some list server feature improvements with the next version release (6.xx). But it may not happen unless we ask for it, so I'm echoing Steve's request below and asking Ipswitch to include some list server feature improvements with the next release (which they may already be slatted to do, but maybe not). [EMAIL PROTECTED] David, Are there any planned enhancements to protect from fools sending .vacation messages back to the listserve. This could be implemented by "counting" the number of messages sent per subscriber and allowing a limit to be placed. This is not a terribly onerous programming task. Likewise - how about an option to prohibit attachments on the listserve. That would prevent the happy99.exe virus and others from being distributed. These topics crop up periodically on the listserve and I don't recall ever seeing any official response, nor any helpful response for that matter either. Re: [IMail Forum] Mindspring blocking SMTP?
Dusty - just following up... How would my clients configure to use Mindspring's mail server? Suppose I have a client whose domain is acme.com They have a POP account of [EMAIL PROTECTED] How would they configure to send through Mindspring instead of us? For example, in Eudora, would they just change their SMTP server to Mindspring? I'm assuming that is how it is done... but then here's the rub... They are sending through Mindspring using the address "[EMAIL PROTECTED]". Mindspring has no idea who [EMAIL PROTECTED] is. Are they going to block this? Thanks Chris At 08:30 PM 10/23/99 -0500, you wrote: A lot of ISP's are limiting outbound SMTP to their own servers. Not sure of all the major players but it has greatly reduced the number of dialup-SMTP SPAM on my server. Saves me the trouble of putting them in the block myself. They can just as easily simply set their outgoing SMTP server to Mindspring's and it will work fine. By limiting outbound SMTP connections to their own servers they can hopefully nail spammers before it gets out of their network too. Notice how Mindspring's advertisements now boast spam filtering as a value-added service? Typically (always in my experience) this is caused from not having your NIC setup and functioning correctly. [IMail Forum] URL in S~ rule
I am finding that I cannot trap messages using a rule which includes a URL to be scanned for in the subject line. It is important that this be an exact match. Is this caused by the presence of the colon (:) character, the tilde (~) character or both? I've tried enclosing the entire subject line in quotes, to no avail. I've also tried using URL encoding (i.e., %3a) for those characters, again to no avail. How do I get around this? Any ideas? ___ David V. [IMail Forum] 100 Domains
I was looking int he knowledgebase and it said something about not being able to have more than 100 domains in the SMTP? Does this mean that you can say that Imail can only handle 100 IP's (domains) per Imail server? RE: [IMail Forum] Off topic - User Rights
No it's because that utility can only be used to connect to other domains not because of a bad nic. I tried it too didn't think it could be done but tried it anyways and I got the same message. RE: [IMail Forum] Vacation Messages Overwhelm Imail Lists
Another feature that would be nice is subscription and removal verification. That way we don't end up with people being added to, and removed from, lists without their knowledge or approval.
