I'm guessing you are behind a firewall, I hope so.
Why not go in and block the address range at the firewall and leave it at
that. I've had some pretty nasty people do the same thing you're seeing and
ended up at this. I had some luck with declude and message sniffer, but
these sort of folks are pretty agile and hard to stop. Mine were from China.

Subject: [IMail Forum] (OT?) Using DNS blacklists with IIS

Lately, I've had a rash of attackers from Nigeria, who have acquired
(through whatever means) legitimate logins and passwords for my Imail users.
They log in, send out a couple thousand emails, and log out. There are no
failed logins, so even an over-zealous account lockout policy wouldn't work
in this instance.

They only send to five or ten recipients at a time, so they avoid most of
the rate-limiting features. But through the magic of cut-and-paste, they're
able to get a few thousand messages an hour sent out.

All the attackers come from IP space listed on ng.blackholes.us, and I'm
willing to annoy any legitimate users of mine that might be vacationing in
Lagos.

Anyone know of a way to apply DNS blacklists to a Web site in IIS,
comparable to mod_dnsbl for Apache?

Re: [IMail Forum] Latest Imail version ?

We did the upgrade a week ago, It went very smoothly. Two things I've seen
1 When using Firefox, the Received, and Size do not show up unless you page
down at least once.
it's then fine until you move to another folder. You repeat the process,
and it displays fully. MS is fine.
2 The new calendar does not have many  of the features the Previous Version
has. Some users of web calendar may have issues. You need to evaluate before
you change. The Previous version is still there, but not sure for how long.
I have no proof, but the web response time seem quicker.

Re: [IMail Forum] Moving to a new Server

2007-12-07 Thread John Doyle

Kevin
I'm on the road and do not have access to all my stuff but I think there
2 programs to run one convert.exe and the other wgscvt.exe.
If you go into regedit and look at the imail trees, you can figure out
pretty much how that is set up. there are two things to export from the
old box to the new one, Both are in the Domains portion. one is the
virtual portion and the other is the domain data. If you move it all
there's no problem, if you move them in sections, be sure to move the
matching set, the virtual and the domain name part.
If your doing the update on the old machine first, it's easy, copy the
whole tree and move it. there is a good kb article on that. I also got
an assist from the ipswitch folks. I had our backup mail server spool
incoming mail while I did the move and once we were up on the new box it
flowed in quite nicely. Don't forget to move the mail folders from the
old box to the new one.
Since you have a new box, fire up the new version and play with if till
your comfortable before upgrading the old one.

Look out for some impact from your web users, we were using
killerwebmail and the new version is slower. People bitched about it,
but for the most part are used to it now.

I did not upgrade the 8.22 version as we were worried that if the upgrade
did not work we would have no way back.
we were on NT4 with 8.22 and moved to a 2003 box and 2006 both using the
windows registry for user names.
I did a clean install on the new box and ran it for about a week with only
the root domain.
We have only one IP address assigned and I created the new instance with a
new IP address but the same name for the server.
I then migrated 2 virtural domains. I did this by simply copying the
registry entries for the domains and the directories. there is a utility to
run to update the address books within the domains. I can't remember the
name but I'm sure the archive has it. I vaguely remember another utility
also. I called ipswitch and got the 2 names.
That was it. we changed the dns records and they came right up.I ran these
for a week.
When I moved the rest,
I shut down the server, I copied the registry entries again for the
remaining domains, also the directories, shut down the old box, added the
old IP address to the new box and again ran the address update tool and it
worked perfectly.

I do think the safe way is to upgrade the old box to the same version, We
were on the same box since NT4 and maybe V 5.x of Ipswitch. I didn't want to
bring over years of garbage in the Imail directory so we simply moved the
registry entries and the domain directories.

I think in the upgrade the address book update is done for you.

I did the whole move in about 20 min. Don't forget to set the smtp to
listen on all ports. I did not do that and it took a while once live with
the whole world to figure out.

I also run Declude and again simply copied the directory. everything worked
fine

Hope this helps

We have a very similar situation. Same user mix.
We did the upgrade and moved to a different box at the same time
We moved to a dual intel pentium  pro 2.8 box with 2 gig memory.
I have seen no difference in POP or IMAP performance. The Webmail side
however is slow.
I'm not an IIS jock, so maybe we havent tweeked it, but I dread having to use
it. I've taken
to using portableapps version of thunderbird and use IMAP rather than Web. Mac
users will whine!

I had no trouble moving  from 8x to 2006. we did not do an upgrade, we did a
clean install
on the new box and migrated the domains. Went from w2000 server to w2003
server. There are
a couple of tech articles on how to move domains. Went very well well. Be sure
to enable listing on all ports.
Good luck

Looking for advice on upgrading to the latest version of Imail. Here is our
story:
- Currently running Imail 8.2x (w/ hotfixes) with about 75 domains / 300
users
- Estimated that 80% of the users download their mail in lieu of accessing
via the website, although that might be because of old web interface
- Probably about 5% of users are using Macs, although the fever is
spreading
- Also running the latest version of Declude, Sniffer, and invURIbl.
At the present time, things are running ok (knocking, ok - hammering - on

expires in the near future (not positive when though).

Re: [IMail Forum] Imail queue keeps flooding!!

2007-09-06 Thread John Doyle
Nick
I had this happen once, fire up the Imail log analyzer in your imail folder,
run it on your sysmmdd.txt log for the day this issue came up. Check everything
and run it. Look for way out of bounds senders.
this could be anything, but check smtp senders, but could be anything. With
luck you should see some user with high outgoing numbers, pull the user up and
disable the account, or change the password. If they belong to you I'd make
sure it was a stolen user id and pw and not an infected user computer.
Good luck

To bandage it up I run my sniffer and block the culprit IP on the perimeter.
More of a deterrent than a solid fix, but I can't find the cause of the problem

I'm also looking into using and ISCSI SAN to hold my domains/users/spool

[IMail Forum] Dictionary attack settings

2007-08-20 Thread John Doyle
I've noticed a number of threads over the months reguarding dictionary attack
settings. We are having one, and I changed the hard limit from 0 to 10. The log
had dropped from 50mb to 9mb so there is much less activity. Now however, I do
not see any ip addresses in the smtp control access list. All I changed was
that one entry for the Hard Error Limit.
My question is, if someone is blocked, how do I see?
How do I get them off if I need to?
My setting are:Max Invalid Recipients Per Session:Soft Error Limits:Hard Error
Limit:Minutes To Deny Access:Error Delay Seconds:

break other things going to 2006.21? I've downloaded it and could do it this weekend, but it took 2 years
to get up the courage to move from 8.22 to 2006.2, I do have to say other than the slow web, it's been rock solid.

We are running 2006.2 on a windows 2003 box

I have one client with one customer who has to re-log on every 2 or 3 min using MS internet explorer to get to web mail.
Everyone else is fine. I can't seem to find what setting to change for her.

She's driving me crazy and no one else is having the problem.

Does this ring a bell with anyone, any help would be appreciated.

set = to 0?BROr, both hard and soft limits and delays set to 0?BRI've
had = intermittent problems with people being unable to send mail, it seems
to = clear up after a while.BRThanksBRJohnBRBR

I'm suggesting that you are aware, that the option "Minutes to Deny Access"
is NOT functional, if at any time you should ever restart Imail and/or your
server. It will turn a temporary block into a permanent block.

If you don't use IMail's access list for permanent blocking at all, you can
delete the .acc file whenever you start/restart Imail, that will delete ALL
blocks.

If you have the intermittent problem of people being unable to send mail,
then there could be many reasons, but certainly, the dictionary attach
feature is one of them. If that happens, go the the Imail log file to the
time when the problem occurred and then search backward for that IP address
to see prior error messages associated with that IP address up to the point
where it last worked.

If you see IMail responding with a 5xx message, then see if the message text
indicates that it was due to too many invalid recipients or other errors -
which would suggest that it's the dictionary attack featue.

If it's one of your clients and they are using SMTP Auth, then I suggest you
contact IPswitch and open a problem report that there MUST be an option to
exempt SMTP AUTH users from the Dictionary Attack (and other anti-spam)
feature.

You can turn off the Dictionary Attack feature by setting the Max Invalid
Recipients, Soft Error, Hard Error, Minutes to Deny and Error Delay to their
documented default values, "0".

Andy Schmidt

you can turn on the SMTP dictionary attack settings. (on the SMTP
service page) This will automatically block IP after a certain number of
invalid users sent to.

Careful with the "auto-blocking" feature of IMail - because it has a serious
flaw (it's been on their to-do).

Basically, if you specify that certain IP addresses should automatically be
blocked for xx minutes and then be reset, then you'll eventually end up with
these temporary blocks becoming PERMANENT. Some of them are likely going to
be big providers and you'll end up with a blacklist of your most active SMTP
partners!

The problem occurs when the Imail server has to be restarted (I don't know
if it's just the service or the entire hardware). Basically it LOSES the
"time to expire" information that apparently is kept someplace transient -
as a result, any IP address that supposedly was temporarily blocked will
never be removed!

Worst, if people are having trouble reaching your server and you think, oh,
let me restart that will "reset" everything. WRONG! BAD! Just the opposite
happens. Restarting actually will just aggravate the problem my making even
more temporary blocks permanent!

The other big flaw is, that you should be able to "whitelist" any SMTP AUTH
connections from the auto-block mechanisms. It's not that unusual that one
of our clients is trying to send email to a co-workers and because of a new
email software, new employee, new PC etc they misspell the address -- or
because an ex-employee is on someone's "list" and they do a "reply all".
After a few emails, their gateway/router is BLOCKED! Now, these emails end
up sitting in the "outbox" and Outlook will keep retrying every few minutes
- and this client will only be able to send a few mails every half hour
until he's blocked again and switch providers because "your mail is so
slow!".

Clearly, if we have an SMTP AUTH user, we don't expect that person to need
to conduct Dictionary Attacks and if they do, it's easy to address the
problem, simply by disabling that user (e.g., password change). IPswitch's
argument is, that SMTP AUTH could be broken into and be used for SPAM. Sure,
that's true, but has nothing to do with Auto-Blocking. If an SMTP AUTH user
start dictionary attacks against Hotmail, AOL, YAHOO and the like through MY
server, then IMail's auto-block won't take, because all those email
addresses are THIRD PARTY addresses where IMail doesn't detect invalid
addresses!

Best Regards,
Andy Schmidt

[IMail Forum] Upgrade to 2006.2 and hardware move

2007-05-29 Thread John Doyle

Morning all

I spent the weekend firing up a new W 2003 server and installing Imail 2006.21
on it. I think I've delt with most of the installation issues.

I would like to move clients over a domain at a time w/o doing using the
technique of upgrading the old 8.22 machine and copying over the registery and
Imail folder, as I want to go slow on this process.

I've looked in the archives and I havent been able to find a best practices
approach. With more history now, does anyone feel there is a best approach to
moving a domain with all the clients? And if so what would the steps be.

Thanks in advance
John

[IMail Forum] Account move

2007-04-26 Thread John Doyle
Good afternoon.

I have a client who is moving their mail accounts in house.
I'm running Imail 8.22. They will have exchange.
I'm would be very interested in any thoughts as to
how to do this with the least amount of pain and suffering.

I do not need to provide them with user names or passwords.
They have stated that when they call, all mailboxes will be empty.
So I'm looking for the best way to not trap any mail after the
switch, and proper redirection of any mail coming in right after the
change. As well as any issues you may have experienced.

Thanks in advance

Re: [IMail Forum] Temporarily disabling a mail domain

2007-04-17 Thread John Doyle
Sharyn

Perhaps treating it as a backup mail spooler might work.
add his ip address to your hosts file in \winnt\system32\dirvers\etc\hosts
mail.ibrandsinc.comnnn.nnn.nnn.nnn
allow relaying for your ip address range in the SMTP Security tab.

I think Imail looks at the hosts record before going out to your dns.
Perhaps not for internal domains. But easy to try.

Help!

We are about to start hosting a domain (ibrandsinc.com) that already has
mail set up somewhere else. I am heading down to the remote office next
week.

I set up the virtual domain, in Imail, in advance because I wanted it to be
configured on the server before I went down there.

What I am discovering is, internal mail, from my regular mail domain
(cruzaninc.com) being sent to ibrandsinc.com, is going to MY server, instead
of the server (fusemail) that is still hosting their mail.

I don't want to delete the virtual domain on my server, is there anyway to
disable it temporarily?

Thanks,
Sharyn

Re: [IMail Forum] Comcast issues

2006-07-13 Thread John Doyle

Chuck

Not sure if this is the same issue, but last week I began having problems with
verizon then sbc then att.
I don't know if Comcast is with that bunch, but.

They started blocking on my email address domain. By that I mean in Outlook,
for example,
the user entered email address. I know this sounds stupid, but have the user
change his
email address to a different domain, that can get through and try sending
again. If that goes through,
you have to get a Comcast user to allow mail from your domain. Verizon never
blocked our IP
just the domain name in the return address. We had some with no problme, others
blocked, with everyone on the
same IP address.

Good luck, took me a week to figure out.

I have one domain that this morning started to get blocked by comcast.

07:13 10:50 SMTP-(0399) 550-IP.ADD.res.ss blocked by
ldap:ou=rblmx,dc=comcast,dc=net
07:13 10:50 SMTP-(0399) 550 Comcast does not support the direct
connection to its mail servers from residential IPs. Your mail should be
sent to comcast.net users through your ISP. Please contact your ISP or mail
administrator for more information.

One of our techs thought the problem might of been a generic reverse dns
entry, but comcast is accepting other Ips in that block that have generic
reverse DNS entries. Anyone have any thoughts on what may be going on or
why comcast would single out one IP as residential.

Does anyone know how to contact Comcast so I could find out what is going
on???

2006-07-07 Thread John Doyle

This morning I checked the kill list and no verizon.
I also opened up the firewall a bit more.

I still don't understand why if i change the address to another
client serviced by the same Imail server it makes it, change it back and it
550s out.

If I connect and use a mail from of [EMAIL PROTECTED], it takes
several seconds (last night was taking around 30) before I get the 500
response. It acts like the mail-from verification is timing out trying to
talk to web-partners.com. Any chance verizon.net is on your kill or access
control list?

Tripp mentioned that Verizon was connecting back to his server to verify the
sender. Does this check succeed or fail on your server? Have you tried
changing the address to a known invalid one on another domain?

If the sender verification is failing, that may be why they are rejecting
you. If you are able to send from an invalid address on another domain, it
would rule out that possibility. If not, and you get the same error, it
might indicate that for some reason the Verizon server either couldn't
connect to your server or couldn't verify the address for some other reason.

 Don
I tried @mail.web-partners.com and it failed.
I've used another clients return address and it succeded also, so I
don't know what to think, they both share the same IP address one
 works one does not.

I'm stunned that I can change the address to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or
anything else and the Verizon gleefully sends it on. How simple is
 that to spoof.

I'm still trying to find a contact to try and get this fixed, at least
I have an idea of what's wrong.

I've made some progress, I discovered one cannot use the ISP spam submittal
link when this condtion occurs.
You have to get a verizon/gte customer to say mail from a blocked domain cant
be received.
Verizon replys that they will investigate. It appears they unblock the domain.
I don't know yet if for just
that one user or all.

I had someone try this this morning and I can now send.

Morning all

Last week, I found I was unable to send to a Verizon customer. I was getting
550 You are not allowed to send mail:sv5pub.verizon.net
I submitted our mail server IP address to see if we were blacklised and got a
reply back that we were not.
I then switched to using a Charter SMPT server and got a similar response.
I next tried using remote access, web mail on the our Imail server so there
would be no record of a dynamic IP address in the header and sent another
message.
It timed out this morning with 421 SMTP service not available, closing
transmission channel and terminating after the Imail max tries timed out.

Does anyone have any thoughts, as we speak, none of our customers are now able
to email anyone at Verizon.

Thanks for any help.

John

I don't see why SMTP is sending to sv5pub.verizon.net, unless
that is part of the address you have for the recipient (which may
be wrong!).

Morning all

Last week, I found I was unable to send to a Verizon customer. I
was getting 550 You are not allowed to send
mail:sv5pub.verizon.net
I submitted our mail server IP address to see if we were
blacklised and got a reply back that we were not.
I then switched to using a Charter SMPT server and got a similar
response.
I next tried using remote access, web mail on the our Imail
server so there would be no record of a dynamic IP address in the
header and sent another message.
It timed out this morning with 421 SMTP service not available,
closing transmission channel and terminating after the Imail max
tries timed out.

Does anyone have any thoughts, as we speak, none of our customers
are now able to email anyone at Verizon.

Thanks for any help.

John

Guys
I'm desperate,
Now we can't send to get.net also.
And of course I can't contact anyone at verizon.

Does anyone have a Verizon contact number? I can't send them email, so I'm
really out on a limb.

Thanks John

I just cleared the cache, and got the same 550 message.
I've also tried sending using my charter smtp server, and gotten the same

I see relay.verizon.net as the MX. I do not know why you are sending to the
*pub.verizon.net records.

The problem may be on your end? Clear your DNS cache on the imail machine and
resend the message.

Greg
I took out the SPF record this morning hoping it was causing the problem
I can get a softfail as if I send a message from home the ip address can change.
2 days ago i added my home ip address as an originating ip and got a pass, but
that didn't solve the problem.

I don't know what to do about the non matching ptr record. We hava a class C
range from twtelecom and I don't
know why they are listed on the DNS lookup.

John:

The email headers from your message indicate the following:

Received: from mail.web-partners.com [206.190.82.18] by
list.ipswitch.com with ESMTP

A DNS lookup of [206.190.82.18] shows a **NON MATCHING** PTR
of: PTR, 206-190-82-18.static.twtelecom.net. Many providers will
DEVNULL email from systems that fail on PTR lookups.

Your domain, web-partners.com, also does not have a SPF record. Not
having a valid PTR (big / huge strike) and no SPF record ( minor /
large strike) could be reason(s) enough for companies to reject your email.

Here is a link to the SPF wizzard that will help you add SPF records
to your DNS zone.
http://www.openspf.org/wizard.html?mydomain=web-partners.com
As with any link in email, copy and paste the URL do not click on it.

Cheers (and good luck),

Greg.

Could be some DNS issue...
I get this for verizon.net:
verizon.net.
nameserver = ns2.verizon.net.
nameserver = ns2.bellatlantic.net.
nameserver = ns4.verizon.net.
nameserver = ns1.bellatlantic.net.

0, relay.verizon.net.

relay.verizon.net.
206.46.232.11

sv5pub.verizon.net.
alias = vms141pub.verizon.net.

vms141pub.verizon.net.
206.46.252.141

I don't see why SMTP is sending to sv5pub.verizon.net, unless
that is part of the address you have for the recipient (which may
be wrong!).

When I connect to relay. on port 25:

112105154401JY+PrW ready Thu, 6 Jul 2006 12:19:29 -0500

I cannot connect to sv5pub.verizon.net on port 25...

Subject: [IMail Forum] Verizon problems

John

RE: [IMail Forum] Verizon problems

2006-07-06 Thread John Doyle
John
In the log, it connects to: SMTP-(0df50189eaa5) Connect Verizon.net
[206.46.232.11:25] (1)

That seems to resolve to relay.verizon.net and the gets passed to :
SMTP-(0df50189eaa5) 220 sv15pub.verizon.net MailPass

Upon coming home, I switched from my Imail server to charter, and still got
the 550. I then went into Outlook and changed my email address to my Charter
email and it has not bounced back.

Sadly my recipient is not available to tell me if she got it.

That makes me think my domain name and my customer names are blacklisted by
Verizon. Even thou they claim not to have blacklisted the IP address.

John

John, I think some how you are connecting to the wrong Verizon servers.

If you do a DNS test at DNSReports.com for Verizon.net you will see one and
only one MX record which is relay.verizon.net.

You need to fix the problem on your end of why you are not connecting to the
correct server.

  Morning all

  Last week, I found

[IMail Forum] NEW INFORMATION Verizon problems

2006-07-06 Thread John Doyle

This may come in handy for others.

This evening I did the following researching my 550 messages from
Verizon.net and gte.net.

1 Smtp out web-partners, sending email address [EMAIL PROTECTED] 550
error
2 Smtp out charter.net, sending email address [EMAIL PROTECTED] 550
error
3 Smtp out charter.net, sending email address [EMAIL PROTECTED] SUCCESS
4 Smtp out web-partners, sending email address [EMAIL PROTECTED] SUCCESS

It looks like if all I do is go into Outlook, change my email address
Verizon takes the mail? I don't get this, I know I'm not very technical, but
apparently the easiest thing to spoof is simply changed and the mail is
delivered. I don't get it.

Just to be sure, I set it back to #4 and it's failed again.

Here is the log of the successfully sent message through my Imail server
using my charter address.

Re: [IMail Forum] ASSP

2006-06-21 Thread John Doyle

Martin
I noticed another post re declude and sniffer. I've run declude for years, and
a short time ago
installed sniffer. I've been very happy with the combo. It catches an amazing
amount of spam.

Good luck.

Hi,

Actually I'm playing around with ASSP. The installation was quite easy. I
spend some time to get the perl modules. The documentation is a bit outdated,
some modules have now a different name.

I would like to know, how many people from this list are using ASSP and please
tell me, if you're happy with it.

I've rebooded the server and have sopped and restarted SMTP.
I'm running 8.22 with all the patches.

That was it, one of the operators added all our ip addresses thinking it was
an allow set, instead it blocked all our ip addresses. I just found it.
Thanks for the lead. Things are flowing now.

Your blocking that IP Address in the smtp access list rules. You need to
remove it from there and restart the smtp service.

I got a tip from Ipswitch, all our ip addresses got added to the denied
list. One of the operators thought it was an allow set not the denied set.

Things are flowing again. What a relief!

Cold Fusion prior to MX something or another doesn't authenticate. Make
sure those Ips are in your imail's allowed list.

[IMail Forum] Time stamps and Daylight Savings Time.

2006-05-29 Thread John Doyle
Good Morning

I'm running 8.22 on a Windows 2003 server. I went through the archives and
did not come up with a solution to my issue. The time stamps are wrong on
the email we handle. I tried setting the clock back an hour and that worked
until it synced up the next time, I also tried setting the GMT offset off by
an hour, and while the header is correct, the time received that the user
sees is still off.

Is there a patch, or workaround for this? I see a dll for 2006 but none for
8.x or earlier, and I'm just not ready to upgrade to 2006.

Thanks for any help.

RE: [IMail Forum] Time stamps and Daylight Savings Time.

2006-05-29 Thread John Doyle
Kevin

I had not rebooted or restarted services since daylight savings time. I have
2003 set up to auto adjust for DST. After restarting services, things seem
to be fine. I really have no clue if that was it or not. It's got the
correct times now in both the header and the displayed time in outlook.

hi John,

so mail is flowing correctly but time stamp is off by one hour?

what time zone are you in and does it use DST? we have encountered a fairly
obscure issue with 2006 (as you noted below) that was actually impacting
delivery in some case but i'm not familiar with this issue existing in imail
8.xx.

bye for now,

Re: [IMail Forum] killer webmail help m e pls, I don´t attached files

2006-05-19 Thread John Doyle

I seem to recall there are at least 2 places to set max message size, and
perhaps 3.

One at the virtual server attributes page on the general tab.
One on the Services, Web Messaging, Web Messaging Server tab.
And there may be one under localhost services, but I can't remember. It may
have to be set on IP server before being set on the virtual one. I think the
hierarchy is IP, Virtual, Web.

If you can normally send large files, but not with web messaging, check the web
messaging tab, I'll bet it's set less than the server attributes page.

Hope this helps.

John

[IMail Forum] User Filters

2006-04-12 Thread John Doyle
Help
We are on Imail 8.22, haveing upgreaded from 8.15 about 3 weeks ago. Some
filters seem to behaving
differently and I tried doing some tests.

I've been at this too long, and I'm now going in circles.
I need to move mail to a folder if either xx or yy or in the header

can I do a single filter Header contains xx or Heaser contains yy
or do I need two filters Header contains xx
and a second filter Heaser contains yy

I've tried all the combinations I can think of and don't seem to be able to get
a single filter to work.

Do the condtional statements and or only work if the source, header or
subject are different?

I've read the manual and am lost

Thanks in advance

John

RE: [IMail Forum] User Filters

2006-04-12 Thread John Doyle
Tripp

Ok this is where I get confused.
In the Imail admin program, (or in web mail) inbound filters.
I would forget about the dropdown boxes with header, body, subject and also
the Or - And stuff.

I would simply insert H~XXX!OR!H~YYY into the text box.

Help
We are on Imail 8.22, haveing upgreaded from 8.15 about 3 weeks ago. Some
filters seem to behaving differently and I tried doing some tests.

I've been at this too long, and I'm now going in circles.
I need to move mail to a folder if either xx or yy or in the header

can I do a single filter Header contains xx or Heaser contains yy
or do I need two filters Header contains xx
and a second filter Heaser contains yy

I've tried all the combinations I can think of and don't seem to be able to
get a single filter to work.

Do the condtional statements and or only work if the source, header or
subject are different?

I've read the manual and am lost

Thanks in advance

RE: [IMail Forum] User Filters

2006-04-12 Thread John Doyle
Getting smarter

I figured out the string below can be added to the filter file directly. It
matched what I'd added through web mail and admin.

However if I try the test screen, it fails.

In the test screen, a single entry works, xx or a single entry for yy
however if i have xx OR yy Nothing I try passes the test.

Perhaps I'm not putting the test string in correctly?

How about getting the user to telnet to your server and to tell you the
response?

If the mailer is sending the message, then to what server is it sending it?

[IMail Forum] Multiple DNS

2005-12-20 Thread John Doyle
Evening Lads

I'm trying to use multiple dns servers with imail.

I tried to set up my imail server to point to 127.0.0.1 and configured my
tcp protocol to point to our dns servers. This has been described in a
number of posts in the past.

However, when I do this, we are unable to send messages. If I set it back to
one of the dns servers it works again.

Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong?

RE: [IMail Forum] Moving IMail from NT 4.0 to Windows Server 2003

2005-11-29 Thread John Doyle

Travis

I did
this a few months ago and had no problems.
The
only thing not brought across that I found was the daily
email
notification of email sent, received et al. I simply added the
postmaster
email
address and all was well.

I also
under steps 8 and 9, I deleted both keys before importing, it's
not
clear
on step 9, but that's what I did and it seemed to work fine.

I did
the move in about 20 min. with maybe 4 gig of folder junk.

Be
sure to patch both to the same level.

Leave
both offline until you test the new one from the console. If it's
not
working simply plug the old server back on the network. If it works plug
the
new
one onto the network. I felt very safe with the knowledge I could go
back
to the
old one at any time up to the point you go live with the new
box.

Enjoy
your weekend.

  All,

  I am

  Things
I have noted to add to the list:

  1.
  Disable EDNS on the new
  server
  2.
Make new server same machine name as old server just
for the migration, then change it back after it is
  complete.

  When
upgrading to 2006 (just spoke to tech support)

  1.
  Make sure II6 is installed
  2.
Make sure .NET Framework 1.1 is
  installed.

  Thanks!

[IMail Forum] Loss of connectivity

I've got a real problem, about every 2 to 6 hours we lose the ability to
connect to external spam test sites like spamcop. I can find no errors in my
windows system logs but I do find this message in my Imail spam log.

This started after upgrading from declude 2.0.6 to 3.0.20.

The only fix I've been able to do is to reboot the server and then everything
works for a few hours.

Any thoughts?

RE: [IMail Forum] Loss of connectivity

Darrell

We have a winner.

I added the winsockreset into the declude.cfg
We still had problem, I then found that I had a corrupted
filter entry in one of my filter files, it was causing
declude to crash and while it would restart on occasion
it would corrupt the udp packet, dns connectivity was
lost and we were toast.
Fixed that entry and all's well.

Thanks for the clue.

I think this may be a known issue with Declude - there was an option in the
newer version to reset WINSOCK. I beleive the command was WINSOCKCLEANUP
ON in the declude.cfg file. FWIW - I would probably contact Declude
support to make sure.

RE: [IMail Forum] mailbox size too large

Is this a virtual server?
If so, don't forget setting 0 as unlimited size at the virtual server with
the parent ip server set at say 10 meg. will limit the size of the virtual
server to 10 meg. regardless as to any value greater than 10 or set to 0.
At least that's my recollection.

I have a customer that is attempting to send an unsually large attachment,

Agreeable on this option. Microsoft has changed the WindowsUpdate

RE: [IMail Forum] SMTP errors from my system to one of my Imail servers

2005-09-26 Thread John Doyle
Title: SMTP errors from my system to one of my Imail servers

Few
questions,
Are
both you and the mail servers behind the same firewall.
If
you're outside the firewall, and the servers are behind it, do they both
share the same settings.
Have
you looked at the firewall log?
The
error message stating port 25 is blocked, is coming from
where?

from my system to one of my Imail servers
  Hello
  All,
Ive got 2 Imail servers here (7.15 HF2) and starting today
Ive been having problems sending emails through one of my
Imail servers, Ill call it Imail 1. I cannot send
using Outlook or Outlook Express thru Imail 1 but I can if using the Web
Interface. I also cannot telnet to Imail 1. I get an error message that port
25 is being blocked. Now, my other server, Imail 2, can send emails just fine.
I can telnet to it without issue. Let me also note that Imail 1 is my hosting
mail server and is used by hundreds of folks. No one has contacted me in any
way to complain which leads me to assume that its me. Ive scanned my system for spyware and such and the only thing
it found was a bunch of cookies and WildTangent, which I removed. Ive tried disabling my McAfee AV softwares email scanner, Ive rebooted my system, all to no avail. While I am running
XP Pro I am not running SP2 and do not have the XP firewall
  active.
  Any thoughts on
  troubleshooting this?
  Thanks!

RE: [IMail Forum] WAY OT: Portable warehouse computer carts

2005-09-23 Thread John Doyle
John

We did this for both our forklifts and pallet jacks.
Buy a 12 volt deep discharge golf cart or marine battery.
Wire a cigarette lighter socket to it.
Get a automobile charger/power supply for the laptop, and your done.
Works all day, trickle charge it overnight.
We've in the past also added an inverter to power mobile printers. Put it
all in a
box and attach to whatever.
You can buy the parts at Costco and be done if a couple of hours.
Wire, cig. adapter, inverter, batt, box. Not elegant but it's worked for
years.

I have a client that I need to come up with a solution for 2 portable
computers. Each will need a label printer. Does any one know of a company
that sells portable warehouse carts with computers or terminals? I find
plenty of cars, but you have to supply everything.

RE: [IMail Forum] Accept.txt

2005-07-25 Thread John Doyle
It's working as configured.
The test message sent to you is local, (not relayed).
Cold fusion has an email generator that creates the message.
It forwards the message to imail, if local ok, if not imail thinks it's
being asked to relay to the non local user. If you want to do that add the
ip address of the cold fusion server to imail. Relay for ip 222.222.222.222
or whatever.

be aware anyone getting access to that ip address could potentially use
imail as a relay.

send the response directly to the client. We have noticed that since we
don't host that client's email in IMAIL, it is making it undeliverable. We
have a copy come to us and that works fine.

No, the override for The sender is unable to authenticate is an IP
address, not an email address. If it's a variable IP address, you have no
choice but to have it authenticate, be inside your firewall (And be very
certain no worms live inside too), and specify the whole subnet as
 authorized senders.

What's so different about your configuration that the issue is becoming so
 complex?

That's just it. If your own users, outside can send email, so can
spammers. Your outside users must authenticate. No relay setting is
 needed
for a sender who authenticates. Alas, they must check the box in Outlook
that says My outbound server requires authentication, but that's a far
better lump to take than getting blacklisted for spam!

Hang in there.
Send yourself a message through the CF page.
Open the header, look for the ip address at the top
Showing where it came from.
This will be one of the ip addresses on the server you use to host the web
sites and the one cf uses to send messages out.

Add this ip address to mail relay options.
Go to:
Imail administrator
Localhost
Services
SMTP
SMTP Security
Put the dot on Relay mail for:
Click on the addresses box on the right
Add the ip address
Apply

Stop and restart SMTP

Try your remote address.

Remember that a worm or other bad thing could then relay to the imail server
and there ya go.

Declude hijack could help.

Good luck

Thanks Dan. Hopefully some of the info below can help you help me.

We have a windows 2000 server and have 15 IP addresses that we host
 numerous
websites on. We have all of the emails set up as Virtual hosts and 90% use
 the same IP address. 64.7.202.222

I would say 80% of our email is set to just forward to the clients
 personal
email and they dont' use our server to send anything out. There are a
handful that do use our system and we set them up in OUtlook or outlook
express to send and receive email.

This isn't the problem. This one client does not have his email hosted
through us and when CF tries to send him the email, it is sent to the
undeliverable folder and the error message is the SMTP server replied
not local host ltcexperts.com, not a gateway. If I change the email
of the form to my yahoo account, I get the same thing. If I put in my
 email address that
I have on the server, it works fine.

You can specify a range of addresses, but the downside of this is
that if any worm or other malware gets control of one of those
addresses (be it a server or a workstation), it can spew email to the
 world and get you blacklisted.

I still don't have the big picture. Is there a firewall here? Are
user machines on the same subnet as the web servers? Etc.

BTW, the logs will show you which IP Cold Fusion is using for the
email - You won't have to list all the IP's on which IIS is
listening, only the ONE CF is using for outbound email.

If you have multiple servers, then you have to address the IP or
SUBNET question. Having CF authenticate would be better, but I don't
think you'll talk Allaire into that one. I haven't tried.

RE: [IMail Forum] Migrating to Collaboration Suite

2005-07-21 Thread John Doyle
I'd try this.

Move your instance of 8.05 to the new box. This is a well documented event.
Then upgrade the new instance of 8.05 to Collaboration Suite. This would
not take a great deal of time and would offer you an opportunity to revert
back to the old still in tact server, or pause at the move state and then do
the upgrade at a later date.

I'd dry-lab this on a test box first. I just moved an 8.15 instance from
an old NT box to a new 2003 Server. It went as documented. So well in fact I
worried
for about a week that someting was wrong. Very easy.

There are notes in the move document on how to change drives and
directories.

[IMail Forum] ATT blacklist

2005-07-19 Thread John Doyle
Good Morning

Last Friday I started receiving the following message from att.com and .net
email recipients.

Server response to MAIL FROM:
550-999.999.999.999 (our imail ip address) blocked by
blacklist.sequoia.ops.asp.att.net.
550 Blocked for abuse. Please contact the administrator of your ISP or sending
mail service.

I have been trying since then to find out how/where to get off their
blacklist and have had zero success.

Does anyone know where to start, or how to fix this.

Thanks for any help.

John

We've
been using Declude for years. Both spam and anti virus. We augment the spam with
message sniffer. But the plain Declude anti spam is very good. Had problems with
beta releases of 6.02 on NT4 platforms but 2.06 has been rock solid on the 2003
platform. We also use anti virus with F-prot. Check out the features of each
software tier. Get the demo and give it a shot. Warn only and read the headers.
You'll have hours of fun.
I'd
buy it again.
