Since upgrading to v10.02 I am experiencing a problem receiving file
attachments from different mail servers. Instead of the file being attached
the code is added to the body of the message which is only viewable through
looking at the header message code, not in the body of the message from a
client. I spoke to Ipswitch support and they said it has something to do with
Java but in looking at the header from a Yahoo Web Mail I do not see where Java
is called. Is any one experiencing this since upgrading and do you have a work

RE: [IMail Forum] IMail Statistics - No data for Webmail Activity?

2008-11-19 Thread Tripp Allen
The log analyzer does not look at the IIS logs - the web stats only worked
for the older web mail. We plan work on reporting in 2009.

Gotcha,

Sounds like that info must be in the IIS logs as John mentioned, and may not

be extractable with canalyze. So we need IMail support to weigh in here
unless someone else already has an analyzer for this.

Dear Darin,

Well, I'm running 10.1 and my spool folder only has a W21*.log file a few
times a month, which only contains a handful of http logs lines. Every few
weeks I have a W11*.log file with usually just a line or two.

So I simply don't HAVE any daily W* files I could include - although I
have significant web activity.

Yes, my command line matches yours:
D:\IMail\CAnalyze H r1 r2 r3 r4 r5 r6 r7 r8 r9 r10 r11 r12 r13 r14 r15 r16

I seem to remember running into this, and it was a matter of adding all of
the report parameters to the command line.

I use canalyze H r1 r2 r3 r4 r5 r6 r7 r8 r9 r10 r11 r12 r13 r14 r15 r16 r17
r18 r19 r20 r21 r22 r23 r24 r25 r26 L100 and have the sys* and w* log files
indicated in the file parameters.

Hi,

The Imail reporting batch utility that's included with the product seems to
have a problem?

When I run it, I can get sensible date for all categories (e.g., POP
logins/failures, IMAP logins/failures, SMTP connections/failures, etc) -
however, anything that's Webmail related provides NOT data whatsoever.

Did I miss a configuration option in Imail that causes it to NOT output the
expected log files?

Did IPswitch forgot to update this batch utility to match the current web
mail version - which leaves out a big portion of our Imail end user
activity? (If there are no plans to offer COMPLETE reporting, then those
reports should be suppressed.)

Here's what the Webmail portion of the reports look like:

Take a look at the IMail analyzer and the canalyze program. They are both
installed with IMail and you can run these to get the counts you are looking
for.

Hey All,

Does anyone know of a script that can be run and create a simple report
showing how many emails each account sent? Basically I am looking for a
script I can run each night after midnight to get a count of the number of
emails each user sent that day. I am trying to catch hacked accounts
quicker and this would at least show me where an account is being used to
send a big amount of messages. We are running IMail 10.x

The smtp senders remote and local should tell you who is sending email and
how many. CAnalyze is the command line version that you can run from a
script - you pass in all the reports you want from a command line.

09:22 19:22 SMTP-(28b101550005) [x] looking up modusfx.com by stack

It didn't find modusfx in your hosts or MX and used the stack, which could mean
a several things:

1 - Your DNS is not working
2 - If modusfx.com is a domain on your machine, something is not configured
correctly
3 - Your DNS (nameserver) settings are not correct in IMail

Check your nameserver settings in IMail then check your DNS itself first.

Hi Vincent,

Your best bet is to give support a call in the morning. It sounds like
something isn't quite right in your configuration and they should be able to
take a look and get it fixed.

  Tripp,

Modusfx.com is an domain alias for chaplin.intranet.modus.com

Is there anything special that should be done about that?

Anyways. I'll wait for the support tomorrow morning.

  Thanks again

  09:22 19:22 SMTP-(28b101550005) [x] looking up modusfx.com in HOSTS and MX

  09:22 19:22 SMTP-(28b101550005) [x] looking up modusfx.com by stack

It didn't find modusfx in your hosts or MX and used the stack, which could
mean a several things:

1 - Your DNS is not working

2 - If modusfx.com is a domain on your machine, something is not configured
correctly

3 - Your DNS (nameserver) settings are not correct in IMail

Check your nameserver settings in IMail then check your DNS itself first.

Hi Jeffery,

Do you have the [ and ] escaped in your rules? If you are looking for
[spam] the rule should have \[spam\].

IMail 2006 (v10). Have a rule that filters messages that have [SPAM] in
the subject and dumps them into a spam subfolder. Works great except it's
also randomly dumping good mail in the subfolder also. I've had two IMail
2006 servers do this to me now. Didn't have this issue with the old
version of IMail we were running, so it has to be something broken with
the rules filtering. Nothing in the subject of the misdirected emails
remotely matches the rule.

RE: [IMail Forum] Access denied when trying to delete a user mailbox

It sounds like one of the services has a lock on the file which would
prevent viewing even in the web client. Try to stop the queue manager, if
that doesn't do it, recycle the IIS process.

Hi,

I have a user that seems to have a corrupted email account. Not sure exactly
what is corrupted but he is unable to receive mail, even in webmail.

I am attempting to delete his account and recreate it. When I try to delete
it, Im getting a message that says ERROR MESSAGE, permission denied. I am
logged on as the administrator of the mail server.

When I go to the user's folder, and try to delete his folder from there, it
tells me Cannot delete main.mbx. Access is denied. The source file may be in
use.

Suggestions? I need to delete his whole account and recreate it.

Thanks,
Sharyn

IMail Server Version 10 was released to the public today, April 21, 2008.

Many new features have been added to improve security, ease-of-use and
low-bandwidth concerns.  For IMail Server Version 10, we have addressed many
of the issues that were associated with previous versions.  Here are some of
the highlights:

New Features
. Ipswitch designed its own Digital Rights Management tool to replace HASP
from Aladdin Knowledge Systems, Inc.  (All previous IMail versions will
continue to run on HASP.) . User Password Complexity Setting.  System
Administrators can now decide how complex user passwords should be.
. Account Suspension from multiple failed Logins (Web Messaging only).  If a
user fails to login with the correct ID and password after a predetermined
number of times (determined by the System Administrator) that account will
be suspended.
. Checkboxes for message selection/deletion.
. User Interfaces have been updated in several places for better
ease-of-use.
. Web Messaging Lite - Users with low-bandwidth (dial-up) can use this to
access their mailboxes more quickly.

Improvements:
. IMonitor has been removed, which has improved IMail's performance by
reducing false positives.
. Plain text emails print at a larger font size now, so they are easier to
read.
. Improved the installation process.
. Web Administrator has been internationalized, all foreign characters can
now be supported.
. Dirty IP setting under Premium Filter has been changed to take No
Action, during new installation.

These are only a few of the new features and improvements we've made.  For a
complete list of new features and improvements for Version 10 please read
the full release notes at:
http://docs.ipswitch.com/_Messaging/IMailServer/v10/ReleaseNotes/index.htm.

of the issues that were associated with previous versions.

RE: [IMail Forum] Orphaned D files

2008-04-22 Thread Tripp Allen
If the message can't be delivered, the D file gets orphaned. In V9, we
added a setting to delete postmaster messages that are undeliverable and
that could take care of a bunch. In many cases we see these files being
orphaned because the DNS records for the spammers points back to 127.0.0.1.

I am running Imail 8.22 HF2 with Declude 4.3.64 on Windows 2000 dual 2.8
Xeon and 2 Gigs of ram and am seeing a very large number of orphaned D
files.

I've looked at the D files they all appear to be undeliverable messages from
the outside world. Apparently someone is spoofing a couple of my users.

Any idea why these D files are getting orphaned? I've made absolutely
certain that my interfaces are clean to our edge router as well as had my
upstream

provider check all of their interfaces out to the point where they peer. I
thought it might be dropped connections from an interface somewhere along
the path,

but I guess not. I turned on debug in SMTP for a short period and didn't see
any messages saying connections were being dropped. Any insight would

be greatly appreciated.

RE: [IMail Forum] Orphaned D files

2008-04-22 Thread Tripp Allen
Agreed; For IMail it depends on where the message was initiated. A message
coming in from outside would be rejected by SMTPD if the mailbox is full.
If a message is generated internally on the mail server by a automated
process, it would bounce.

There is a big difference between these two.

Accepting and then bouncing makes you a source of backscatter.

Rejecting it while the sending MTA is still on the line means its their
responsibility to do something with it.

On the web, you can move the separator bar between the preview pane and the
message list so that more messages can be seen, and it will remember the
setting.

The premium antispam tag really doesn’t have a meaning that we can display.
The tag can be used by Mail Filters to look at a signature if it is causing
false positives. If you have false positives, you should forward them to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] so they can be taken care of.

Regarding number 1 below:

In the full client, the number of messages shown per page is based on how
big your have your browser window. The message grid will squeeze in however
many will fit. To see more, you can either decrease the size of your
preview window or increase the overall browser window size. All this is
javascript based so the message grid should immediately resize. Under some
browsers like Safari, it is occasionally necessary to reload the page after
resizing your window. In the low bandwidth client, it does show 10 messages
per page by default, but if you go to your user preferences page, you can
change that number to be whatever you want.

RE: [IMail Forum] IPSwitch IM- missed conversations

2008-02-22 Thread Tripp Allen
If you have deleted the logs that's why it's showing conversations missed
that are no longer there (the conversations were in those logs). For those
users, go into the registry - HKLM/software/ipswitch/messenger
server/domains/your domain name/users/username and look at the key queue
conversations. If you delete the contents of that value the missed
conversations dialog will stop appearing. You can also find this
information in the KB at http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/MI-20071213-KF01.htm

RE: [IMail Forum] footer on lists

2008-02-20 Thread Tripp Allen
Currently the list server does not recognize the difference and just places
the trailer at the end of the message. In an HTML based message you don't
see the text as it is placed in the wrong location. A recent change in
IMail's primary trailer is to add the domain trailer as a MIME part rather
than attempt to parse and insert the text into the message. This is the
route we will take with the list server at some point.

Hi All,

I was wondering if this is a known bug or if I'm doing something wrong.
With 2006.23, footers are not being attached to our mailing lists. When I
looked at the source of the messages, I can see it there, but the footer
doesn't show up with viewed normally.

Thanks,

Mark,

That is exactly why we added the new Impersonate feature. The Imail
client

was removed because of incompatibility issues so we introduced the
impersonation feature for admins so that they would get that functionality
back.

There used to be a utility supplied with Imail called Imail client that
ran on the server and gave an administrator access to a mailbox without
needing to lookup the password. Very helpful. For some reason, they
dropped it. Maybe if there are enough requests, they will bring it back.

This is where I get confused. I thought if you were using RBL's you would
get an X-IMAIL-SPAM-DNSBL header. I have many cases where literally the
only
spam related header is X-Mail-Filters-DirtyIP. This leads me to believe
that

IMail is finding the information from some other source. I originally
thought that a Dirty-IP flag came because of detected dictionary attacks
but

I guess that is not the case.

You are always at the mercy of the data provider when using dnsrbls and
such. Those who input the data determine what constitutes spam and the
spam sources, etc. Sometimes they add entire IP ranges, and this usually
causes problems. Dnsrbls and domain rbls are a good line of defense, but
both have their faults. Spammers change both domains and IPs as some as
they're listed.

If a message gets flagged as a dirty IP it means the message came from a
suspicious IP. That IP has attempted to send messages to some invalid
address (non published) which indicate the machine could have been recently
used to send spam. You should not delete messages marked dirty IP as they
are just suspicious and not necessarily spam.

Dirty IP is an IP Reputation System. It based on spam traffic patterns
from
IP addresses or ranges (not sure which). IMail has no control over the
dirty
IP. This is determined by Mail Filters (the people who made, and manage

that starting with this release, for some reason IMail waits about 15 seconds
to reply to the 'QUIT' command and my program was set to timeout after 10

was expecting the reply.

Does anyone know if this delay is configuable? It doesn't seem to be anything

Subject: [IMail Forum] Anti-Spam server ends up on the restricted list

I posted about this in the past long ago, but the issue stopped without
intervention so I left things alone. However, the issue has returned. I
have ASSP for anti-spam and IMail 2006 on the same box. In the past and
now once again, the IMail server will stop allowing connections from ASSP
and when I check the SMTP restrictions it is set to allow all machines
except the mail server itself. This of course stops any SMTP connections
from ASSP and therefore stops the workstations from sending mail and stops
incoming email. ASSP accepts connections on 25 and connects to IMail on
2525.

I'll go in and remove the machine's IP from the list, save the change and
then stop/restart the SMTP service. Everything will be fine for a few
days, or even a few weeks and then all of a sudden IMail will start
refusing connections again. Go in and sure enough the machine's IP is
restricted again.

I have all IMail anti-spam options disabled.

Re: [IMail Forum] apimmdd.txt files

2007-12-10 Thread Tripp Allen
If the web client hits internal errors it will create those files and we are
interested in seeing them. The spool cleaner utility will clean them up as
well.

  Hi,

As of IMail 2006.23 I have apimmdd.txt logfiles. However I cannot find what
these are for. Is this the new extra debugging for the webmail?
There seem to be no release notes for 2006.23, at least I cannot find them.

Appart from that, everything seems to be working ok.

Not if you follow the link and instructions in the email sent out.

I assume it is available somewhere else like the patch page?

I am happy to say I was wrong in my email. It would have been pretty sad
to pay for fixes.

They just released a fix for Imail 2006 but only available to current
 service agreements.
It not a new upgrade its a damn fix for a defective product and they
want to be paid for it.

All fixes to a product that I paid for should be available.
I understand new features but when its a fix going from .22 to .23 it
 should be available for FREE.

I paid for a support agreement and got nothing for year and a half.

RE: [IMail Forum] feature request

HI Bonno,

I'll add this to the wish list.

Thanks,

Subject: feature request

Hi Tripp,

With the recent development of the GBUdb mechanism in Sniffer I would very
much like to be able to block the realy bad ip-numbers in IMail. As there is
currently no scripted way to get the info in the IMail ACL could you put
this on the wish list?

As of this week the spammers are starting to send huge batches of spam in a
very short period to my mailserver. We have a normal volume of real mail
of about 4000-6000 msgs/day. Spammers are now sending 500 msg in a few
minutes to my server to get the spam delivered before the spam databases are
updated. The GBUdb system is perfect for handling this and provides a ready
blocklist to be used.

I think lots of Sniffer users would love to see this feature in IMail.

RE: [IMail Forum] List E-mail Duplication...

2007-10-25 Thread Tripp Allen
Hi Greg,

IMail doesn’t send two mails when sending HTML, just two message parts. I’m
not sure why that would cause the list server to react that way to commands
though. Do the logs show two actual emails received?

Subject: [IMail Forum] List E-mail Duplication...

Boy, I am on a roll today... after our upgrade to IMail 9.22 I noticed when you
send a list command (i.e. list listname) you get 4 replies... essentially a
duplicate reply. Two standard list users and two digest list users... I
decided to try sending a plain text e-mail asking for the same thing and only
got 2 replies... One standard and one digest...

After some research I believe the Added plain text messages to go along with
HTML messages when new messages are sent. Fixed an error that caused improper
handling of Base64 Japanese encoded attachments in the message header.
enhancement to 9.21 is the problem here... essentially what is happening is the
imail server is actually receiving two e-mails, 1 plain text and 1 html when
you send using html...

Is there a fix for this or any suggestions?

Thanks!

RE: [IMail Forum] List E-mail Duplication...

2007-10-25 Thread Tripp Allen
The logs show only one message being sent to the list server. I know that
the list server has issues with commands in HTML messages and that is
probably what is causing this - plain text only should work better.

Alright, so the answer is this won't work from the web client without
telling it to send plain text. Is there a plan to fix this in the future?

There have been a few reports of issues with the web client under high load
situations and we have been working hard tying to isolate and fix these
problems. It has been very difficult to duplicate, but we feel that we have
made progress. There will be a 2006.22 (9.22) release soon that should address
the problem.

  Tripp,

For those of us (most of us) that purchased a software subscription for IMail
9.x and are still waiting for a stable webmail interface, is there going to be
any sort of attempt made to fix the current issues without another major
version upgrade?

I am afraid that I paid for a service agreement about a year and a half ago
and a product that is stable has not yet been made available, and I get the
impression that I am going to be told to upgrade to version 10 and pay for
another service agreement.

  Thanks,

The phrase filter will filter ALL mail - it doesn't differentiate between local
or remote delivery. If your users are authenticating, you can turn off
anti-spam scanning for authenticated users.

Are your user's authenticating? If not, then the mail would still be scanned.
Yes, this is normal. The idea behind filtering outgoing mail is to stop
someone from using your mail server to send spam - therefore all mail gets
scanned.

RE: [IMail Forum] Listserv Capacity Speed Question

2007-09-12 Thread Tripp Allen
In 2001 IMail used individual processes to send every messages, and when
there were a maximum number of processes in use, messages would be dropped
in a spool for future delivery on a queue run. Then, when the queue run
took place, one process would start and deliver messages one at a time until
they were all delivered. For a big list, this would take hours. This is
one of the reasons that the queue manager was written. When there are
messages in the spool it will keep delivery threads constantly running and
attempting to deliver mail. On our mass mailing server we run 400 delivery
threads and it will deliver 10,000 individual messages in minutes.

Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] Listserv Capacity Speed Question

I am specifically interested in the Listserv functionality of the IMail
software. I currently have a listserv running on SmarterMail and it is ok
but we need something more sophisticated/robust. Having been a long time
user of WhatsUp and very happy with it, it seems natural to look at IMail.

Our listserv is around 800 subscribers and I would expect to see 1000 or
more in the next year. I doubt we would ever go over 1500 at any future
date. Out current problem is speed. It takes forever to process messages
(maybe 30 minutes or so). We need for it to be just a couple of minutes so
actual discussion can take place. There would also be a couple of other
lists hosted with less than 100 subscribers. (Note the hardware and pipe is
not an issue.)

I tried to help an IMGate client with his Imail list delivery, but many
years ago.

Dumping his Imail list output onto IMGate for delivery (DNS lookups,
delivery attempts, re-queue/re-attempt of deferrals, excellent logging, and
readable non-delivery msgs, etc), he got up to about 25K msgs/hour.

Deliver depends on msg size nearly linearly. Also there is a huge
difference, per hop and end-to-end, in

a) sending a single msg to 10K recipients (fast) vs

b) sending 10K customized msgs to 10K recipients (up to 10 times slower).

The problem was that Imail would be ripping along, and thne just stall, send
nothing, with nothing shown in the Imail log. No amt of kicking the Imail
queue would change it. Then the msgs would dribble out over 10+ hours.
This was 2001 or earlier.

IMGate helps ((Imail or any mailbox server) as much on heavy outbound of
legit mail, lists or not, as it helps blocking at least 90% of the inbound
illegit crap.

Because you could create a rule to forward to one user, and that user could
have a rule to forward back to the original user (thus killing the Queue

Does Imail not let you filter mail twice?

Here's the situation ... my main mail account firsts using inbound
filtering to filter the subject You have Spam and forward it to another
account on my system.

In the second account, I try to filter it again, but this time to put it
into a folder within the second mailbox.

The second filtering does not work.

Is it because the x-declude-rule line is already in the header from the
first rule filter?

Is there a way to filter on the first time to not only forward, but have
it forward to another account/filter in one rule?

Hi,

Been on hold with the support desk for 34 min now, calling from The

Maybe someone overhere knows the answer. ;-)

About a month ago I installed IMAil 2006.21 RC1 on my production server as
the 2006.2 version was not stable and I had some vacation coming up. It's
been quite solid, so I've had a quiet vacation. But now I want to
install th real version, the 2006.21 release version.

When I run the setup I do not get the option to Upgrade as it sees itself
installed. So what next?
I can first Uninstall, and then install. Or I could do a repair.
Would a repair be enough, would it overwrite every RC1 file with the release
version file?

Hi Trpp,

Ok, but my last attempt does not work either so

From a recent mail, this is in the headers.
List-Id: openvpn-users.lists.sourceforge.net
I want all those mails to end up in the folder Other lists\OpenVpn-Users
Currently the rule in my rules.ima file is:
OpenVPNUsersH~List-Id\: openvpn-users\.lists\.sourceforge\.net:Other
lists\OpenVpn-Users
but that does not seem to work either. And as far as I know I've escaped any
{} () | * + , . : \ in the rule that need escaping

Wat also does not work, for different reasons is:
OpenVPNUsersH~List-Id\:\ \openvpn-users.lists.sourceforge.net\:Other
lists\OpenVpn-Users
OpenVPNUsersH~List-Id\: \openvpn-users.lists.sourceforge.net\:Other
lists\OpenVpn-Users
This one should have worked I think, but didn't:

OpenVPNUsersH~List-Id\: openvpn-users.lists.sourceforge.net:Other
lists\OpenVpn-Users

What is the correct syntax? I'm about to give up and go back to

OpenVPNUsersS~\[Openvpn-users\]:Other lists\OpenVpn-Users

The engine uses a standard regular expression parser so a '.' means match
any character in that position. If you want to match a period exactly, you
have to escape it.

Hi,

Hmm, indeed the manual states I need to escape those periods but..
These two rules DO work:
DecludeVirusH~listid.declude.virus:Other lists\Declude antivirus
DecludeJunkmailH~listid.declude.junkmail:Other lists\Declude junkmail

Mails for both mailinglists are indeed moved to the right folder and the
periods are NOT escaped. I've just checked, there are no other rules moving
mail to these two folders. Also, in the local headers of a mail I find:
X-IMail-Rule: DecludeVirusH~listid.declude.virus:Other lists\Declude
antivirus Data- LISTID.DECLUDE.VIRUS.-16710038
So that rule is indeed applied to move the mail to the proper folder.

Trip/Tom, any idea what's going on?

I'll adjust the rule for the Openvpn list once more, this time I'll try:
OpenVPNUsersH~List-Id\: openvpn-users\.lists\.sourceforge\.net:Other
lists\OpenVpn-Users

The engine uses a standard regular expression parser so a '.' means match any
character in that position. If you want to match a period exactly, you have to
escape it.

  Hi,

Hmm, indeed the manual states I need to escape those periods but..
  These two rules DO work:
  DecludeVirusH~listid.declude.virus:Other lists\Declude antivirus
  DecludeJunkmailH~listid.declude.junkmail:Other lists\Declude junkmail

Mails for both mailinglists are indeed moved to the right folder and the
periods are NOT escaped. I've just checked, there are no other rules moving
mail to these two folders. Also, in the local headers of a mail I find:
  X-IMail-Rule: DecludeVirusH~listid.declude.virus:Other lists\Declude
antivirus Data- LISTID.DECLUDE.VIRUS.-16710038
So that rule is indeed applied to move the mail to the proper folder.

Trip/Tom, any idea what's going on?

I'll adjust the rule for the Openvpn list once more, this time I'll try:
  OpenVPNUsersH~List-Id\: openvpn-users\.lists\.sourceforge\.net:Other
lists\OpenVpn-Users

RE: [IMail Forum] web messaging: Attempted to read or write protected memory.

2007-07-18 Thread Tripp Allen
We focused our efforts for 9.21 on the problems that require IIS resets on
heavy use web client installations. We made a lot of progress in the area
and feel that we have taken care of several possible issues. We have
determined that in some heavy use cases with large contact databases that
moving to SQL Express or SQL for the contacts DB can make a difference. As
far as this specific error, I can not guarantee that it is fixed as we had
problems duplicating it in stress testing. The changes we made in 9.21
should reduce the chances of this error taking place and may eliminate the
error.

Ted, Tripp, Ken and my Mommy,

I am working with two companies that rely very, very heavily on webmail.
Any information about this error would be appreciated, and I hate to say it
but...imperative to know.

Am correct that the IIS Worker Process problem that affected heavily used
servers has been fixed in 2006.21? If so, is this protected memory error
seen commonly under any conditions (such as heavy use of webmail), or is it
just simply hit or miss on both smaller/less used servers and larger/more
used servers?

I did note an E-mail from Grant Griffith on 5/10 saying that he turned off
logging for webmail and everything worked fine, but this was not specific
enough to indicate resolution through isolation of that event and I can't
tell by his reply to this thread today if this in fact provided long-term
resolution (Grant?).

Thanks,

Matt

Subject: [IMail Forum] Imail accepted weird recp address

Imail accepted an incoming postmaster notice to 1) a non-existant domain
and

2) an address with odd characters. Can some one explain this, I have not
seen this before? The domain does not exist anywhere on Imail, it used to
be

a host alias for a previous virtual host. The username Maldonado never
existed either.

This is taken from the actual Q file.

That's pretty much my situation, a few users just HAVE to have it.
Outlook this, outlook that.
If I can't get peering to work, I'll have to go your way. I was actually
thinking of doing it your way, but thought I should ask first to see if
there is a 'nicer' way.
Thanks though, I appreciate it.

Ernesto,
I had trouble getting peering to work when I tried it. So what I
ended up doing was to kind of crude but it works. I setup Imail to be the
mail server for the domain and setup aliases for all of the accounts on the
exchange server to a subdomain, for example [EMAIL PROTECTED] is an alias that
resolves to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange is then the mail server for
exchange.domain.com and the mail is sent to there for
delivery. The users on exchange have an address in exchange.domain.com
and an address in domain.com setup on their mailbox, with domain.com as
primary.

Like I said it is crude but it works for the few users that HAD to have
exchange.

The 4005 events were the primary focus for Dev over the past several weeks.
For .21 we changed the architecture so we are no longer using a COM object
from .NET (which appears to have caused many of the problems) and we dropped
the FTB edit control which appeared to be causing issues as well. We have
people running the technical preview that previously were having to restart
IIS frequently (large, high web user installations) that have been running
preview 3 for a couple of weeks and have not had to restart IIS since
loading. Note that the new edit control now supports HTML messages in
Safari as well.

Yes, when Imail 2006.2 was released and many started to use it,
including
installations on high volume or heavily used servers, the webmail bugs
started to show themselves. As an example, I was running the preview for

Imail 2006.2 on my server and had no errors or problems whatsoever.
However
my server is low volume. After its release, when I installed it on a
high
volume client server with users all over the place the problems arose.

As of right now, Imail 2006.21 RC1 is installed on my server and on my
client's high volume server and so far no errors have been seen or
reported.

The preferences.config file is in each users file directory and is used
by
webmail to set how the user wants certain things. If it does not exist,
that
means the user has never changed anything from default and that is fine,

although in some cases having a preferences.config file even if
everything
is default settings has helped.

big problem with web messaging.

Many of our users are being logged out of web messaging when they send an

Re: [IMail Forum] IMail 2006.21 - HTML not readable on PALM OS

2007-05-18 Thread Tripp Allen
Not necessarily. The HTML messages we generate should be RFC compliant and
therefore readable by any RFC complaint mail client. It could be that their
Sync program is looking for something in particular that the messages don't
have, or that there is some header in the mesages throwing off their sync
program. For us to figure out what is causing their program to not deliver
the entire message would just be guesswork. Whomever supports the synch
program needs to look into why the synch is not working correctly.

Tripp,

Maybe I'm being dense, but the wireless sync doesn't give you those
options.

You go to VZ website or call them, they put in your server, username,
password etc and then the wireless sync program pushes it to your device.
Then you can't open the HTML email sent from the webclient, but HTML from
anywhere else works. Makes me think it is an IMAIL issue, no?

If the messages from the web client are not displaying on the treo due to
the Synch program, my first guess is that the synch program doesn't include

If it syncs via POP or IMAP it is fine. But you are saying a third party

device) even the old 8.22 email was readable and the fault is with the
Palm

Treo?

It SHOULD be RFC complaint or it IS RFC compliant? Palm and Verizon are
pretty big, I would think if they had a problem getting HTML email in
general that they would've addressed it.

I will call Verizon, I will see if I can get through to someone, but it
seems to me that the logic on this list is flawed.

Not necessarily. The HTML messages we generate should be RFC compliant
and
therefore readable by any RFC complaint mail client. It could be that
their

Sync program is looking for something in particular that the messages
don't

have, or that there is some header in the mesages throwing off their sync
program. For us to figure out what is causing their program to not
deliver

the entire message would just be guesswork.

Marc

We haven't tried older versions; we tried with .21. But, we haven't
modified the mail format created by the client from 2006.2. The Treo user

They are using the wireless sync program and the standard client built into
the Treo. I don't have the device in front of me, but she is not the only
user to complain that they were only getting the subject when mail was sent
from the Imail webclient. She was the only one that I tested with technical

If you send from the old webmail can your user see it?

I believe what you are seeing for the winmail.dat is actually our problem.
In 2006.21 we made changes to fix the trailer.txt file insertion, but we've
found a bug when sending mail from the list server and the work around (an
empty trailer.txt file for the domain) is causing each message to look like
it has an attachment. We are working on the issue.

to 2006.1 due to the 4 times per day crashes (and now only have 1 or 2

So my question is, is there a way to make 2006.1 stable? Sure I called

to receive any callbacks or emails with the status of my ticket. Its like
Ipswitch support is a black hole.

Hi, can someone from Ipswitch please tell me if (and when) the two issues
are corrected?
Especially #2 is a big problem for us. Trailer.txt is added even if the
list itself has its own Trailer message defined.

Thanks

in Germany we are now forced by law to add certain company information to
every business mail. Easy I thought, just use a trailer.txt file which
includes that info.

Two problems, though.
1.) It does not work for HTML-Mail. While we have the policy that all
outgoing mail must be in plain text some users are still using HTML by
accident/on purpose.

2.) We have some lists setup where the trailer.txt file should NOT be
added.

RE: [IMail Forum] user settings, defaults, feature request?

2007-04-17 Thread Tripp Allen
Right now you can not change the default. However, the technical preview of
the console admin will allow you to bulk edit user the preferences for Save
copy of outgoing messages in sent folder, Delete options (move to deleted
folder or purge), Default new message style, and Default message encoding.
You can download it on the IMail console admin prototype technical preview
forum here: http://www.ipswitch.com/forums/messages.aspx?ForumID=32

Hi,

In the Preferences screen are several users settings for which we would like
to change the default, if possible on a per domain basis.
For instance we would like for students NOT to save sent mail by default and
purge deleted mail in stead of moving it to the Deleted folder. For our
staff we would like to keep the settings as they are.

I have not been able to find a screen where I can either change the current
setting or the default. Am I missing something or have I just added
something to the feature request list, or at least upped the priority?

Met vriendelijke groet,

Re: [IMail Forum] Entourage and Safari Issues With Web Messaging?

2007-04-13 Thread Tripp Allen
Right now I don't have a time frame. It's on the list to look at in the
future but not currently being worked. I know it's not the best answer, but
FF should work much better if you can convince your users to try it.

Tripp,

Can you give me any type of idea on when this Safari/Entourage issue might
be fixed? I am getting hammered on this and am not really wanting to think
about going back to 8.22 to resolve this. I am willing to try it out as
beta to get this resolved quickly.

Entourage is not a browser that we tested with, but I expect it's the same
issue. It is something we plan to look at, but I can't give you a timeframe
right now.

That is almost like telling someone this CD does not work in your car, can
you drive the other car instead? Lol

Is there going to be a fix for this? Also, is it the same issue with
Entourage?

The FTB editor in the web client does not support rich text editing on
Safari so it doesn't understand the HTML. Can they use FF?

Has everyone else been experiencing issues with both of these applications?
I am getting nailed with people having issues with both of these
applications on Mac's. Seems like when they reply or forward a message it
always shows the HTML code instead of formatting the message properly.

Anyone have a quick fix to this so we quit getting the phone calls?

Re: [IMail Forum] Upgrading 8.22 2006.2

That sounds like the issue with checking the force subscribe in IMAP for
public and private folders. This is no longer an issue with 2006.2 as the
web client no longer uses IMAP.

Re: [IMail Forum] 7.13 to 2006.2 - API

2007-03-28 Thread Tripp Allen
There is a console administrator prototype in technical preview right now;
it's located at http://www.ipswitch.com/forums/messages.aspx?ForumID=32

That console administrator uses a .NET API which is currently in
development. That API does have the abilities to manage users, domains,
lists etc. Currently it is not a complete API as it is in development, and
we don't have an SDK at this point. But, if you're familiar with .NET
development using that API wouldn't be difficult. However, since it has not
been officially released it is subject to change.

David,

Based on their current beta work on a stand-alone GUI, it appears that
IMail too is moving over to Web services for such things like
SmarterMail, however it wasn't clear if this would be open beyond the
GUI. It's worth checking out though.

We've been on 7.13 for obviously a long time. I'm looking at upgrading

support for domains. Howerver, using web services they have a great
API to add/delete/modify domains/users/etc. I did some research on
Ipswitch's site and it still looks like Imail is using some command
line utilities to do basic mgmt. Does anyone know if they have
enhanced the ability to interact with the system programmatically?

Anything I have to do for it to start using the new .config file? I am
