Re[2]: [IMail Forum] IMail under VMware
It's perfectly feasible, but needs to be accompanied by a firm idea of how to size/resize physical boxes to host virtual machines. I see people get carried away by the presumed savings in hardware, overloading a box with OSs/services that really need all the resources to themselves for performance reasons. With your load, it'll likely be perfectly fine, but you haven't mentioned what _else_ will be contending for the box's resources. My plan was to run a web server (IIS) which has limited internal traffic in the same VM as IMail, and then a similar web server VM for test (when needed), and possibly a backup Novell 6 VM just to backup the eDirectory tree (which only has 60 users.) The hardware would be Dual 2.8ghz Xeon, 3GB RAM, 10K SCSI drives. My only concern with this was IMail and if that isn't an issue given my scenario it sounds like VMware might be a good fit for us. Thanks for your help Sandy. It's much appreciated as always. Are the quotes to signify it's possible but not a good idea? It's perfectly feasible, but needs to be accompanied by a firm idea of how to size/resize physical boxes to host virtual machines.
