That's me - 

Other people's bad behaviour is no excuse for our own,
- Windows mostly stopped doing this over 10 years ago, Vista doesn't create
thumbs.db files any more (there's still desktop.ini, but everything else now
goes in ~ or NTFS ADS forks).
- Just today I had to help someone asking me what this DS_Store stuff is when
they received a .zip file created on a mac. It's clutter and a nuisance.

You have changed the bug to be about a specific KIO issue, that's great, but i
subscribed to this bug under its original title and culprit (Dolphin) because
it was about getting rid of .directory files, which i think clutter up the
place (e.g. shared network drives and zipped directories), not every OS hides
dotfiles.

Dolphin demonstrably supports not having the .directory files in the directory
itself (see #7 ), for me personally the issue would be resolved by making this
a configurable preference.

As Christoph mentioned 4 years ago, this works as expected. There is a "Show
folders first" that accomplishes this. They may not be separated with a
separator line, but they *are* first. If your folders don't look like folders,
that's an issue with your icon theme or your own decisions, if you were the one
who gave them ambiguous icons.

It doesn't make sense to count items that aren't visible. That's just super
confusing. People will wonder, "wait, why does it say there are 25 items when I
can only see 10?" 99% of users don't know or care about hidden files and this
would just confuse them.

The only thing that I can imagine making sense is updating the count only when
hidden files are made visible. I think we could consider a patch for that (for
real, we would). But until then, I'm going to have to close this bug.

A UAC message box pops up

The UAC message box should not pop up

In dolphin, right-clicking a file name and choosing rename would highlight the
part of the filename before the dot and keeps the extension intact. However, if
the filename is Arabic with some diacritics, each diacritic would cause part of
the extension to be highlighted. e.g. If the filename is:
اِسْمُهُ.mp3
and you try to rename it, the whole name would be highlighted including the
extension.

There are lots of legit usability reasons why you might *not* want this. For
example, if you're renaming multiple files in such a manner that they will be
re-sorted elsewhere, after each one your view will change, making the
multiple-file-rename operation an infuriating experience. macOS finder behaved
this way for many years and Apple got a lot of complaints about it, eventually
reverting the behavior to match what Dolphin does today.

If you enable Show in Groups, hidden files and folders show up in their own
separate groups now (or in a single group if you don't have "Folders first"
checked). Then you can sort by date and you will basically have exactly what
you want.

This is a known GTK bug (you can see it with tooltips in GIMP, too). I'm afraid
there isn't anything we can do about it. I would recommend using a different

First, check version of your valgrind installation. Valgrind from ubuntu/neon
16.04 is ok, but some other versions can be buggy, see for example

If you use "normal" valgrind, please paste full run cmd (first line) from
"Test" tool view, something like 

/usr/bin/valgrind --tool=memcheck --xml-socket=127.0.0.1:37349 --xml=yes

On my neon 16.04 I can't reproduce your bug.

I'm not sure this makes sense for us to implement. We already have two

Breeze Dark looks fantastic with Dolphin today. The alternating row colors are
subtle, not jarring and harsh as in your screenshot. If that's not what you're
seeing, you might try upgrading to newer versions or adjusting your theme's
color scheme.

This is no longer an issue, both because the tinting code is better now, but
also because the more recent Breeze icon theme inherently doesn't have this
problem compared to the Oxygen theme that was visible when this bug was filed.

I'm afraid I have to close this bug report for several reasons:

1. Multiple issues are mixed together: the black shadow border, upscaling small
images, and how settings are stored. We can't have bugs like this, because one
thing may be fixed or nixed, and the remaining issues will be lost.

2. There is an important reason for the black border that nobody has mentioned:
it's a visual cue that the file is an image (icons are a type of image), and
not, say, an executable application. This visual cue is important for users.
And today, as of KF5 Dolphin, the border is a nice shadow--much more attractive

3. There is a workaround in the form of a hidden setting that experts can add
to the config file.

4. This is a super duper niche issue, as evidenced by a lack of comments,
votes, or duplicate bug reports in the last 5 years.

I'm trying to use a two-factor authentication PAM module on KDE Neon 5.10 but
am running into trouble because SDDM does not support two-factor authentication
(https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/784) and it seems like kscreenlocker_greet
does not either. In particular, the OpenOTP PAM module
(https://www.rcdevs.com/downloads/Integration+Plugins/) tries to have the
display manager print a message (e.g. something like "Insert your token now")
and also display an input password box where you can enter the OTP string. In
both the case of SDDM and kscreenlocker_greet, this causes the login/unlock
screen to hang because these systems don't know how to handle this request from
PAM. I've tried out a different PAM module
(https://developers.yubico.com/pam-u2f/) which does not try to display a
message with the login/unlock screen and it works fine with both SDDM and
kscreenlocker_greet, but I need to use the OpenOTP module which does try to
interact with SDDM/kscreenlocker_greet. Do you have any advice on how to handle
this situation with kscreenlocker_greet? Is there a way I can tell it to just
ignore any such "display this text" messages from the PAM module and proceed
with the login?Or, can it be configured to display this information from the
PAM module? I have tested gdm3, gnome-screensaver, xscreensaver, lightdm, and
xsecurelock and they are all able to handle displaying the text and input field
for the OTP string so I believe this should be possible with SDDM and
kscreenlocker_greet too. 

Moreover, I see that SDDM has its own PAM config file at /etc/pam.d/sddm but
kscreenlocker_greet or kcheckpass does not (it just uses
/etc/pam.d/common-auth); ideally it would have a separate config file like
/etc/pam.d/kcheckpass as well.

Example /etc/pam.d/common-auth config file for the OpenOTP PAM module:

Christoph is right. This isn't a Dolphin issue; if it's really wanted, we
should implement it everywhere. But I'm not sure we want to do that. Having
dialogs open in the center seems both logical and expected. If the window is
maximized, the dialog box will appear right in the center, where your eyeballs
are most likely to be looking. Also, since the main window darkens with a
utility dialog appears, it' even easier to see where it is.

I agree with Frank. For a local path, use a symlink. For a remote path or a
link,  Dolphin really doesn't have any way to introspect the .desktop file to
see where it leads, and because of the near-infinite possibilities, that sort
of isn't reasonably implementable. As always, patches are welcomed, and if you
or anyone else comes up with a way to do this, we will definitely consider it.

I can reproduce, but when I set the double-click interval to 100ms, the issue
disappears; it's practically impossible to click faster than that when the

I just reinstalled Dolphin in Ubuntu 16.04, haveing not used it for quite some
time.

Searching for "docx" a a folder with 8 docx files, Dolphin reported "0 Folders,
0 Files."

I recall that the "search" function relies on file indexing software which is
not automatically installed alongside Dolphin.

Yes, it's not the end of the world.
Yes, it works just fine for the average user as is.

500.000 files is obviously a benchmark scenario, but it "points" as a possible
issue. You can have two real fixes here.

1. Re-evaluate KDirLister (i don't know if it got smarter over the last 4
years, therefore look at it again) to not update the folder when the only
change that caused the folder to be dirty is caused by updating the hidden
config file. I'm not sure anymore why KDirWatch merely emitted a dirty signal..
inotify (the backend on linux) does show which files got changed so it should
be possible to monitor for just the changes and ignore the said case.

2. Move the per directory config out of the directory and into either some
"shadow" folder (same hiërarchie, just under a different path), or follow the
same principle as is done right now when making thumbnails (md5 the full path +
filename).

Point 1 is probably the most desirable fix, but could be tricky to get right.

Is anything needed at all? Nope. It's merely a "would be nice to have" request.

what do you think? it's the kalarm icon but works perfect for notifications
too. the pause thing work's also good with the breeze information in the bottom
right corner. Red is for mute sound, mute notifications, ...

Just hit a duplicate of this, user was using "bleachbit" which is a piece of
software that just randomly deletes other program's files.

It might be the case for the other user's here. Can other people affected
confirm if they were also deleting files in ~/.cache at the time.

I am a newbie using Krita 3.1.4 running under Windows 7 Pro (64-bit).

When I create a new document (File >New), select Custom Document, change the
Width and Height to inches, and enter 2 (width) by 1 (height), at 300 PPI, I
get a thin, straight line on the screen.

To get what I wanted, I had to resize the canvas (Image > Resize Canvas).

Right clicking the Titlebar and selecting "More Actions" provides a menu
containing a "No Borders" tick box. However, this item is missing from  the
corresponding menu when right clicking the taskbar button. As a result, once
ticked, this box becomes inaccessible and there appears to be no way to restore
window decorations.

Reproducible: always

Expected behaviour: it would be possible to access this item through the
taskbar menu to deselect it.

In Payee View, select "unused" as the filter, then go to the ledger for some
account.  Select a transaction with a payee, right click on the transaction and
select "Go to Payee."  KMM displays the Payee View, but with "unused" still
selected, and either no payee selected or the one which was previously
selected.

While I would normally say KMM should not silently change a filter/dropdown, in
this case, without doing that, the user is left wondering why he can't view
that payee.  I think KMM should either switch to "All" or at least pop up a
warning that the selected payee can't be viewed with the filter "Unused".

I store raw and jpeg files in the same directory (same file name different
extension). I geotag, tag and rate the photos storing the information in the
sidecar. Raw and jpeg files share the same information. It would be very useful
to share the same sidecar for both files.

So you're suggesting that left-clicking on an open area selects a file, but
right-clicking on an open area opens a contact menu relevant to the background,
and not the file? That seems confusing. And if a right-click on the background
opens a context menu relevant to an item, then we've lost the ability to
right-click on the background to open a context menu relevant to the background
(e.g. to create a new file/folder/document in the current folder).
