This old post sounds similar to my issue:

I checked and Gwenview is also slow to open (like in that link)

also in Dolphin, File menu | New Window is just as slow as initially opening
Dolphin.

[frameworks-knotifications] [Bug 422310] New: Notifications Cause Youtube Videos and Other Programs To Stutter

2020-05-31 Thread Sheldon Codling
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422310

Bug ID: 422310
Summary: Notifications Cause Youtube Videos and Other Programs
To Stutter
   Product: frameworks-knotifications
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: reproducible
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: shel...@gmail.com
CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

First off, I hope I am doing this bug submission right. This is my first time.

Anyways, Whenever I am watching a YouTube video or writing a game in Pico-8 and
I get a notification, the video will stutter for about half a second and then
continue. It seems to stutter slightly less when Kwin is disabled, but it is
still noticeable.

Here is a screen capture I recorded to better demonstrate what's happening:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltmrJHM7b_E. Please note that I am not sure why
the notifications and task bar flicker in the video. I think it has something
to do with my OBS Studios settings, as I never see it flicker any other time.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Go to any YouTube video
2. Trigger a notification

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 20.04
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.12.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

My system specs are as follows:

CPU: Intel I5 8500
GPU: Nvidia GTX 970
RAM: 16GB DDR4 @ 3000 Mhz
Motherboard: Gigabyte z390-UD

I am also using the proprietary Nvidia 440 driver. If I had to guess, I imagine
that the problem has something to do with this driver, but I haven't tested the
Nouveau driver to see if it does the same thing.

[klipper] [Bug 422308] New: klipper plasmoid without qrcode/prison broken at runtime after 7bd9bea07

2020-05-31 Thread Duncan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422308

Bug ID: 422308
Summary: klipper plasmoid without qrcode/prison broken at
runtime after 7bd9bea07
   Product: klipper
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: plasma-widget
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: 1i5t5.dun...@cox.net
  Target Milestone: ---

This is live-git kde-frameworks and plasma (which unfortunately lacks an entry
in the version selector above), built on top of qt 5.15.0 using the gentoo/kde
overlay's - live-git ebuilds. x11 not wayland. Last update was today,
plasma-plasma-workspace e3a3631cb, but I've pinned it down to culprit commit:

commit 7bd9bea07
Author: Kai Uwe Broulik
Date: Fri May 29 09:15:58 2020 +0200

[Clipboard Plasmoid] Port to Prison QML import

On gentoo I have USE=-qrcode set for plasma-workspace so it's supposed to build
without the barcode/qrcode dep, and prison along with its dependencies are not
installed.

The problem is, while plasma-workspace builds and installs fine, at runtime,
while I get a klipper icon in the tray, klipper won't respond (no action popup
on select/copy or manual trigger), and clicking the tray icon gives me a popup
with the following:

Error loading QML file:
file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.clipboard/contents/ui/clipboard.qml:
110:13 Type BarcodePage unavailable
file:///share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.clipboard/contents/ui/BarcodePage.qml:26:1:
module "org.kde.prison" is not installed

Which is correct, it's not. But USE=-qrcode is supposed to turn off the
requirement for it and with the rework it apparently is no longer doing so.

After nailing the problem to the specified commit, I took a look at the commit
as well as the error quoted above. Then I looked at the named clipboard.qml
file, which was not touched by the commit in question, and sure enough, the
last section of it, around the named line, looks like this (2 notches further
indented in the actual file):

Component {
id: barcodePage
BarcodePage {
anchors.fill: parent
}
}

Realizing it's run-time interpreted code I quick-tested a /*..*/ comment of
that code, restarted plasmashell, and sure enough, I had klipper back! =:^)

So at a non-dev guess I'd say that code needs protected with a test like the
try/catch test I was reading in the commit. Only those few lines at the bottom
of that file were missed in that commit.

After somewhere along the line believing it to be a downstream gentoo/kde bug
due to interaction with the gentoo qrcode USE flag and having it turned off
here, I eventually confirmed their suspicions that it was upstream with my own
testing, and resolved/upstream the bug there to file it here, but here's the
gentoo bug I filed FWIW:

I also see that same issue. I opened a separate bug report for it.

Bug 422306

If you see the same issue, comment at that bug report.

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 422306] New: Dolphin and KDE file dialogs open very slowly

2020-05-31 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422306

Bug ID: 422306
Summary: Dolphin and KDE file dialogs open very slowly
   Product: frameworks-kio
   Version: 5.70.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Open/save dialogs
  Assignee: fa...@kde.org
  Reporter: bugreporte...@gmail.com
CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Dolphin, as well as KDE file dialogs in all KDE applications, open very slowly.
It takes several seconds for the file-open dialog to display in Kate or any
other application. Also, it takes several seconds for Dolphin to display any
window content on first opening.

After it is open, Dolphin does not have slow responsiveness (except as related
to Bug 393977).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
On my system, the steps are this simple:
A. open Dolphin
B. or bring up the File Open dialog in Kate or any other KDE application that
uses KDE's file dialogs

OBSERVED RESULT

I have to wait several seconds before I see a file dialog appear, or before
Dophin shows any content in its window.

Even on a fast desktop system (such as a modern Intel i7 with NVMe disk and
plenty of RAM), there is a delay of several seconds before Dolphin will
populate the windows contents or before a KDE file dialog will open/display.

EXPECTED RESULT

No delay.

GTK file dialogs (on the same system running Plasma 5) open instantly. Dolphin
and KDE file dialogs should open almost as quickly. Other software on this
system is not slow.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5 (from About System Settings)
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.70.0
Qt Version: Qt 5.14.2 (built against 5.14.2)
proprietary nVidia driver

HARDWARE

This is a modern desktop computer with Intel i7 CPU, fast NVMe disk, 32GB RAM,
fast nVidia GPU.
The hardware is not slow.

OTHER BUGS

I do not believe this is related to bug 169929 because once Dolphin in open, it
responds normally (except as related to Bug 393977).

It is also not related to bug 179955 because print dialogs open quickly. I only
see file dialogs and Dolphin having slowness.

Application: plasmashell (5.18.5)

Qt Version: 5.14.1
Frameworks Version: 5.70.0
Operating System: Linux 5.6.14-1-default x86_64
Windowing system: X11
Distribution: openSUSE Tumbleweed

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

I enabled the system tray service "Weather Report". Then openned its settings.

There are 4 tabs.
  -Weather Station
  -Appearance
  -Units
  -Keyboard Shortcuts

The second time I enter the "Units" tab, within the same Settings dialog
session, Plasma crashes.

If I enter "Units" tab and save settings, then re-open settings window and go
to Units tab, it is ok.

Identical crash if I go through a desktop widget for Weather Report.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

This can be reproduced without KDevelop. Create a file test.cpp with the
example from comment 2 as content, then run "c-index-test
-cursor-at=test.cpp:1:34 test.cpp", where c-index-test is a tool coming with
Clang. This crashes for me as well.

So I filed a bug report with Clang:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=402790

(In reply to felipe antonio from comment #15)

First, just to be clear: It should still be able to discuss this matter here,
but the issue should stay closed.

To the topic: Also to clarify: Neither way for a user to get to the desired
setting is removed. It is just that one way is modified slightly for more
consistency. You can of course still search for a setting, but now the whole
settings app opens on the related page instead of opening a small settings
window without context. Reasons why this might be beneficial were listed in the
comments.

So there is nothing killed.

If this clarifications are irrelevant to your point, I'd be interested in why
you think the change is bad. What exactly did you find unique and fascinating
about the "old" way?

SUMMARY

I have Fedora 31 KDE Spin on my Lenovo W540 and I connected my Android phone to
it. I noticed that I can then make phone calls through my laptop for my phone.
However, while on Discord via Flatpak, it popped up with a new input device and
I said don't use it. However, anytime that happened, my on-board mic for my
laptop went from 50% to 100% causing the mic to hot-mic.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect Android Phone to Lenovo W540 via Bluetooth
2. Receive notification or text on Android Phone
3. Inspect volume in tool bar at bottom right.

OBSERVED RESULT

Mic went from 50% to 100%

EXPECTED RESULT

Mic to stay at 50% or present as a new input device on its own.

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #421583 +++
OK, I'm seeing window role now, the appearance hackaround for the above bug
seems to have worked and with all the bug fixes so far window rules are finally
getting reasonably usable again without having to resort to a text-editing the
rc file. Thanks. =:^)

But... the role config is only half there -- just the textbox. Where's the
match-type drop-down (similar to the ones for window class and window title,
unimportant/exact/substring/regex match) to go with it?

[I decided this should be a new bug rather than a followup on the cloned-from
since that one was the result of an upstream kirigami or possibly further
upstream qt bug and I don't believe this aspect has anything to do with that...
unless of course the match-type box is there and is just being hidden by the
same kirigami/qt bug, which for all I know could indeed be the case...]

Same here with Galaxy S8+. I ran a binary diff with a file that I copied twice
and the glitch happened once at position 0x8000 an once at position 0x1.

What is also noteworthy: the issue only happens when I initiate the copy from
the KDE desktop. The problems does not appear when I initiate the copy from the
smartphone.

This is a very critical bug in my opinion because you will lose video files by
moving them from the smartphone to the desktop.

That's already possible since years.

You can assign a keyboard shortcut to the shutdown actions in
systemsettings5->Shortcuts->Global Shortcuts.
Check the "KDE Session Management" and "org_kde_powerdevil" components.

It's also possible to do it from a script via D-BUS, run something like:
qdbus org.kde.ksmserver /KSMServer logout 0 0 0
See
https://superuser.com/questions/395820/how-to-properly-end-a-kde-session-from-shell-without-root-privileges
(you may have to replace qdbus by qdbus-qt5)

Please feel free to reopen this bug if I misunderstood you.

[krunner] [Bug 417070] KRunner makes excessive writes during searching.

2020-05-31 Thread Alex
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=417070

This sounds good!

I currently have another patch waiting to be reviewed which improves the
overall API design of the runner plugin.

Another things that I would implement (brainstorming):
- The implementation if the setup/teardown methods doesn't make that much sense
and is quite wasteful

- Reuse the database connections as long as the file isn't changed (depends
issue above being improved)

- Some better mapping of the url to the favicons, if you have 3 bookmarks of
the same domain with the same icon the icon is only once as a blob in database.
But if you query the runner the icon will get written to disk for each entry.

- If the mapping between url and icon works well, maybe the favicon database
doesn't need to be copied. We could just read it (for instance at startup when
the browser isn't running) and create the icon files. This is similar to what
you suggested.
Then we could also implement a logic which goes like: The already cached
favicon files are used, as long as there is a favicon for every requested
bookmark. Otherwise we will update the cached files.
This way don't copy the database if no favicon of bookmarks is affected (if you
visit a website and you go to your browser history you will get the favicon
displayed, but we don't need the favicon, if the link is not bookmarked).

- Also reusing the results from a previous query, if we already searched for
`kru` and continue to type `krunner` letter for letter we don't need to make
sql queryies for each letter typed.

This will reduce the disk write operations to a minimum and will improve the
performance.
These are just my general ideas in regards to the bookmarks runner and they are
going further that this bugfix. But because you also had good ideas on how to
further improve this I thought it is worth mentioning^^.

And considering that this plugin is also enabled by default in the application
launcher it seems worth to optimize it further :-).

I completely uninstalled everything and installed digiKam 6.4 Stable Release
and gave it one more try = it froze and crashed with the very first operation I
performed = force closed, re-opened, and tried again two more times with the
same result.

It finally dawned on me to try "Run as Administrator"

With digiKam 6.4 running "as Administrator", I was able to successfully Tag and
also edit Tags on several hundred images without a single crash.

With digiKam opened with "Run as Administrator", everything I did seemed faster
and more responsive.

I have downloaded the "digiKam-7.0.0-rc-20200531T011237-Win64.exe" and intend
to try it as soon as time allows.

Yes this behavior is known.

You can try the nightly build
(https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/Kdenlive_Nightly_mingw64/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/)
where multitrack audio is implemented. You can select the audio track in clip
properties on the new tab audio and insert them into the timeline. This feature
will come with 20.08.

[plasmashell] [Bug 341143] Bring back per-virtual-desktop wallpapers

2020-05-31 Thread michel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341143

Hello

User "Robert Kaiser" seems to be in a more elevated position because he can
apparently judge who deserves this function, which has been urgently requested
by users for many years. He will be completely overlooked that such non-factual
comments are completely OT, since this thread is not about who deserves this
change and who does not, but is about when this change will finally be
implemented.

The reason for not implementing the desired function is unfortunately only very
general and therefore not understandable.

The fact that there are only 330 posts so far should not lead to the
assumption that not many more users want this function. However, they do not
write in such a forum because they believe that there is no prospect of success
anyway. It is well known that the "silent majority" rate is greater than 1:10.
It is incomprehensible that the KDE makers ignore such a large number of users.
User Lehmeier has already clearly shown the expected consequences. It cannot
matter to the creators whether there is a risk that users will run away simply
because they simply do not want to implement a function that is often
requested. So far, I've only known such ignorant behavior from a city that
begins with "R" and ends with "edmont" ...

To reassure (top) user "Robert Kaiser": I am also a user of KDE. The first
version I used was KDE2 in 2000/2001, when I completely turned my back on the
established and profit-oriented competition from Redmont and Cupertino. I know
a little what I'm writing about. In these almost 20 years, a lot of cliffs had
to be circumnavigated, many hurdles to be overcome and a lot of patience was
often required to get where we are today. We all can be proud of that. The best
programmers are of no use if their product is not used. Ultimately, there was
always a solution.

That is why I am not giving up hope that a solution will not be found after
all. However, the use of "activities" is not this solution, it would only be a
crutch that is pulled by force on the hair to distract from the real problem.

 Bye

[tellico] [Bug 422298] New: blank list and column settings are rest after changing field order in the windows Fields

2020-05-31 Thread Stephane Couturier
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422298

Bug ID: 422298
Summary: blank list and column settings are rest after changing
field order in the windows Fields
   Product: tellico
   Version: 3.3
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: ro...@periapsis.org
  Reporter: cont...@symbioxy.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Hi,
When I change the order of the fields in the windows Fields, and when I somehow
switch position between some that are displayed, the list goes blank until I
close and restart Tellico, and then the List is reduced to the Title field.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Display some additional fields, e.g Title, Year, Genre
2. go to Fields, select Genre and move it up the list before Year
3. apply, the list area is getting blank.

OBSERVED RESULT

EXPECTED RESULT
- changing fields order on the Field window does not blanks the list,
- list settings are not lost (field selected, order, size of the columns)

[plasmashell] [Bug 341143] Bring back per-virtual-desktop wallpapers

2020-05-31 Thread Lehmeier
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341143

If people are slowly losing patience, it is because you have been reporting
this bug since 2014 and have been put off and ignored ever since. It should be
clear that you will become sarcastic, ironic or just frustrated.
Instead of continuing to ignore this error, you should finally solve it.
There was already a solution for this in KDE 4.4 ( Comment 319 ), why is it not
reactivated?
With it you could give each virtual desktop its own background image, define
its own desktop and adjust everything so that it was easy and clear. Working
with it was a real pleasure. KDE 5 does not come along with this.

This would not only make KDE more user friendly but also regain a lot of trust.

So if you think you can ignore a problem that many people are interested in,
don't be surprised if the users will turn away in the long run.
If you ignore the user with his needs, you shouldn't be surprised if the
support of the users will break off in the long run.

Maybe the solution will be moved to KDE 6 or KDE 7. Let's wait and see what
happens next.

I have seen this occasionally when setting up a new search. I know it's
anecdotal but I'll try and get some logging the next time it happens to me.

What generally happens is that something like the picture height or width have
been set to unfeasible small values, maybe by accidentally touching the scroll
wheel while hovering over the field.

For me, I think part of the problem is that I expect the 'Advanced Search'
button to open up a new, reset search, whereas it does not always. For example
I just tried it and it carried over the album selection from my last query, but
not the date selection I was using.

Of course, doing a reset will sort this.

Maybe the 'Advanced search' button should implement 'new' advanced search? The
only other implementation of new advanced search would seem to be in right
click menu of an existing search. This is not obvious at first.
