Re: [lace] Need help with Brigitte Bellon pattern

2013-05-17 Thread AGlez
Hello Vila,

The pattern is beautiful, and I have made a scarf from the same book, which
is made very similarly. I think there is nothing wrong in your piece of
lace. (And there wasn't either in the one you cut off, as I can see).

Number 2 is ok: you must leave the 2 edge pairs plus the guide waiting
until you reach that border later again. Now you have to continue working
the complete triangle in roseground, which may not offer difficulty because
there is a diagram for the unfinished border in the pattern sheet to
indicate you how to make it. Once you have finished the triangle, make the
narrow cloth stitch trail that follows, then a row of whole stitches and
again a row with a trail. You will have to make a joining at the first top
stitch of this trail.

I think that you have to keep working, because it does not look as if there
are pairs missing. Ask again if you arrive to a problem later, but you
should not have it. The patterns of this book are very accurate and in
torchon everything matches.

Keep telling us if these explanations were useful for you.

Best luck! And don't cut the lace off! AS soon as you overcome this part,
you will see it is not difficult at all.

The reason I mention it is that the Kindle edition is on sale for $1.99,
which is a good price. Whether this is a sale that really ends is unknown,
but I thought some would be interested for those times when we actually can't
 make lace.

I have recently read that book, I found it quite a depressing story but saying
that I still had to finish reading it ...maybe that's a sign of a well written
book?

Hello Ruth

Strange isn't it?? It says that it costs 13 dollars on mine, over £8 uk.
Shame that they charge different countries different prices for what is, after
all, an electronic book delivered over the air/down the phone line and no extra
costs involved!!!

By the way I got mine from the local library. I think there is no point to
buying books (other than lace of course) when I can borrow for free from the
library. I never read books twice so cannot see the point of loading my book
shelves - leaves more room for the books that matter I.e. craft books.

On Amazon UK the Kindle price is 8 pounds 92p. On the other hand, second hand
printed copies begin at 45p. No contest, really; even with 2 pounds 80p
postage charge it is still half the price of the electronic version. Given it
is depressing read I think I shall give even the old copy a miss.

Dear Readers,

This is an interesting thread. The book discussed is a work of fiction,
but unlikely to be a classic. I have read classics, like Gone with the
Wind (also fiction) approximately every 15 years! It (and others) has a
different relevance as time marches on and more life experience and knowledge
is gained.

My books are the greatest of friends - always here. I can remember the
years when all I had was about 10 books and the most basic furniture. No
money for plants, artwork, rugs, curtains, etc. to personalize living space.
Therefore, every morning I walk into my little piece of Heavenly real
estate (library), and send up a prayer of thanks for the ability to collect
books, and thanks to the authors (most of whom are no longer available to
discuss their knowledge).

Today, I have done something that I could not do in any individual public
library, and would find difficult (if not impossible) to do through
internet searches.

I've taken over 20 books (from 3 centuries) off the shelves so
mis-information in a lace article in a lace newsletter will be corrected.
Some
amongst us need to police lace history and womens' history. The prevailing
attitudes by many powerful people is: what the women who came before us did
is not worthy of being acknowledged or accurate.

Let us appreciate the historic riches documented in our real books.
Technology is changing so rapidly that writings kept in one of these new
formats
may become lost within just a few years.

Hello Again! After reviewing the archives, I've tried the various methods to
upload a photo I'm getting nowhere fast! The system definitely wants an
email address but won't accept the arachne2... or Honiton password. When I use
my own yahoo email, it wants to make me a new user. Will someone take pity on
an old dog who isn't able to jump the hoop? g I've scanned three lace
butterfly pins, the last one may be of interest. The others appear to be
machine made. The last one was purchased in Quebec city several years ago.
The pin is huge can't reasonably be used on anything with a fine weave so I
had to poke it with a pearl headed straight pin to wear it on a linen coat. If
it's nice weather, I'll wear it to Cortland tomorrow. Sincerely, Susan Hottle,
