[lace] Lace at Swedish Royal Wedding
Hi All, No one has mentioned the Swedish royal wedding yet. The gown is by Valentino and the lace is described as Chantilly. Quite pretty and you can see it rather well. http://royalweddings.hellomagazine.com/madeleine-of-sweden-chris-oneill/ It almost looks like there is a lace flounce around the bottom of the skirt but I can't really tell. [lace] Lace at Swedish Royal Wedding
Click on the side story of wedding details, and then enlarge the pictures. The 'kiss' picture shows the detail on the top half of the skirt. There's decorative shapes all around the skirt. The story of the dress says it's appliqued Chantilly. However, the picture of them returning to the church shows the bottom of the skirt and there's definitely a wide flounce of Chantilly on it, probably about 12 wide. The veil also is edged in Chantilly orange blossoms. They are barely visible in a couple pictures. [lace] Metal lace course with Alicia Jane Boswell
Hello everyone, I am really excited about Alicia Jane Boswells course on metal bobbin lace in November. She is an extraordinarily talented young woman whose design sensibility has brought her to use bobbin lace in a very new way. The course will begin with a visit to the famous collection in Gandino for inspiration. [lace] pattern drawing software
Thank you everyone for all the great suggestions for pattern making software. What a great lace community this is! I had no idea there could be that many options and I will definitely try them all out. [lace] Elizabeth M. Kurella's Web Site
Elizabeth Kurella and I met decades ago at a Embroiderers' Guild of America national seminar, where she was selling laces. She is a lace curator, lace dealer, lace maker, lace collector, and author of lace books enjoyed by countless lace lovers. My count is 9 book titles; there could be more.. All are unique in subject matter and useful. Search her name, as an author, and you may find them. On June 1, 2013, Elizabeth launched a lovely web site: http://www.lacecurator.info This web site is educational and will be of interest to many. She will be adding to and updating the site, so it is one you may wish to revisit from time to time. You may put this announcement in your local lace guild newsletters, if you wish. [lace] Finally I finished...the Thistle Bookmark
Jean Leader's Thistle Bookmark design is done. Whew-This is the very same design that burned a part of my A_ _ and got me to go to the very try it out pillow when visiting Ithaca, New York Lace making Columbus weekend on a very public day. You see I had gone to the public day event in Ithaca with my son's ex girlfriend. I had just gotten back from doing the trip of my lifetime...going home to the land of my ancenstors which I was in the UK and Ireland for a month. So when I saw the Thistle Bookmark done in white...I was...I got to learn how to do that. So I went to the try it out pillow and the rest was history sorta speak. That very bookmark was my inspiration to learn. This bookmark has been on my pillow for about 3 years. It is the hardest piece of lace I have ever encountered. It was hard with a big (!). I love the design though..and yes, I made mistakes in the lace. I think it would have helped me alot if I had Christine Springetts' Bedfordshire Lace number two I think it was. I have this on a VCR tape that I bought from Hanson I think it was...but I don't have a VCR player anymore and I can not afford the same thing on DVDs. It is too bad I can't trade it in...I can't afford to buy the same thing again just because technology changes...if someone has a copy and is no longer using it and if it isn't too terribly expensive I would be willing to buy...but I can't afford it new. It would help me so much for I plan on doing more Bedfordshire lace in the future. Anyhow I have put pictures of the bookmark up on my blog along with what threads and so on... My blog url. is in my signature. The lace was made using black threads with metallics. I hope you will take the time to go and look at it and tell me what you think. I know Jean Leader has been away..and I hope she also sees it when she gets back. I would love to hear from her. So let me know what you all think. [lace] Koon collection at IOLI
Hello All! There is only one review of the IOLI Koon collection CD in the Arachne archives I wondered if anyone else would care to comment. Is the Eunice Sein Koon collection the same as or related to the Mrs. Martin B. Koon collection that is referenced by the Minnesota Institute of Arts in 1915? How are the lace examples organized? By technique? By date produced? Has anyone used the CD as the basis for a chapter program? Any background info on this resource would be much appreciated. Thanks.
