[lace] OIDFA Bulletin error!
Good morning fellow spiders I just thought I'd let you know that I received my OIDFA Bulletin yesterday and noticed that the review of Alex Stillwell's book 'Drafting Torchon Lace Patterns' has been incorrectly priced at £28.50p plus postage! This should of course read £16.50p - quite a substantial difference! The presses are now ready to roll with the Print On Demand edition of my own book Needlelace Designs Techniques and I would hope to have it available sometime next month. My grateful thanks to all of you who have responded to my queries about type of binding, PDF files etc. all of which have been extremely useful. The book will be spiral bound and with full colour as in the original. Re: [lace] Richard Ives his bobbins
That is so nice to have someone's last bobbins. I'm very lucky to have Sally Reason's last bobbins that she painted. They are very very special to me and I can't bring myself to use them yet. He was the first bobbin maker that I got to know when I first took up lacemaking in the 80's and I have always loved his bobbins, so beautifully slim, elegant and a fabulous finish to them. Richard was also President of Suffolk Lacemakers for many years - Suffolk Lacemakers are celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year. Nicky in Suffolk From: The Lacebee thelace...@btinternet.com Subject: [lace] Richard Ives Bobbin Maker Does anyone know if Richard Ives is still making bobbins and if so what his current contact details are? I tried the email address I had from 2004 and it bounced. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Milanese
Hello All! Thanks to Elizabeth, Kim, Devon Robin for sending advice. It's a challenge to create a little piece that I can finish within my skill set--without breaking any Milanese rules! To me, the braids themselves often evoke objects or nature without even considering the shape/path of the tape. Even people who don't make lace can look at some Milanese braids say--wow, that looks like xxx! So that's what I'm aiming for. Something abstract that says xxx!! You are quite right, Louise Colgan is an excellent teacher I enjoyed her class at Sweet Briar last year. And I'm looking forward to the Sandi Woods Milanese sessions there this June. BTW Devon, thank you for reminding me about the element of experimentation!
