[lace] Re: lace dealers handbook
Thank you Robin and other ladies for their information, this is exactly what I needed and have passed it on to her. Thank you as always for your helpful information. Sue T Dorset, UK where we have a sharp frost this morning Does that mean it was a pattern in a book which people might choose to have made for a particular reason. What I think I probably need to send her is a potted history not books and loads of stuff, just enough to make it interesting.. Sue The Luton Museum's Lace Dealer's Pattern Book is a series of pages to which snippets of lace are attached. The dealer would show these pieces, produced by the women that worked for him, and the customer would pick the one she wanted and tell how many yards (or pieces, if it's a motif). Then the dealer would order that amount from the woman who specialized in that pattern. Re: [lace] Seasons Greetings
Oops I knew I'd forgotten to do something Will rectify that later today!! I've got a 'little list' somewhere of what went to whom etc Sue in East Yorkshire where it's cold, sunny, and there's NO snow!!! The intent was for each to send a copy of their ornament to Jenny before sending it to their partner. For those of us, like me, who forgot to take a picture, we asked the recipient to please take the picture and send to Jenny. So, if you are the lucky recipient of one of the pieces of art, and don't see your ornament on Jenny's site, please please take a picture for us all to enjoy. Jenny has done a fantastic job of collecting all our ornaments as she receives them. Sallie and Janet PS - each time I see a new one I wish I had it too. They are all so unique and beautiful. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. For help, write to arachne.modera...@gmail.com. Re: [lace] Lace Dealers Handbook
I have privately written to Jean R. in Pennsylvania with information as to where she can buy the new edition of this book close to home (in the U.S.), and a lot of other info about guilds, etc. Because Arachne has a non-commercial policy, I thought this the best way to help her all around. If there are Arachne lace makers near her, please get in touch with Jean. Anyone else in the U.S. needing assistance with this? Write privately to me, but be sure to use the Subject line to enter Lace Dealers Handbook, and tell me where you are located. Does anyone have any idea about what costs would be, shipping, customs, exchange rate etc? Or how to find out? It is listed at 19£ on the website. Thank you all for sharing. I'm a newbie but enjoying all the posts. Jean R, Mercer Pa - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] The Royal Lacemaker
Can someone give me the author's name. Can't find it in my local library from title alone. Thanks Malvary in Ottawa where we have no snow and apart from what was left in piles on the lawn had a green Christmas - only ever had one in the last 37 years since I came here. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Lace Dealers Handbook=Luton lace Treasury
Hi All, An addition to this conversation should be Sally Barry's books - Luton Lace Treasury I, II, III and IV. IIRC Sally made patterns and prickings from the lace in the Luton Lace Dealers Handbook. One used to be included in every New England Lace Group bulletin. I did see the books at Van Sciver Bobbin Lace in the US but I don't have all the particulars. Sally and I are both members of NELG but I'm sending this on my own. I thought some of you might be interested. [lace] Lace Exchange
Hi All, I received a wonderful lace Angel from Laura de Bruyn. The angel has a double skirt and beautiful wings. It looks like she could stand up. Thank you Laura!! Laura wrote to say my silver tape lace Luna Moth just arrived. I'm so sorry it was late, I mailed it December 5, I think, and I didn't dream it would take that long. Yours got to me in a very timely fashion. What fun though. I love the lace exchanges! Thanks so much for putting this on and for the website with all the beautiful pieces. I hope more arachnes will join us next year, it's great fun!
