The Ring of Tatters sends their renewals out with the newsletter too. I try to
remind myself on the calendar for next year... But it doesn't always work!!

RE: [lace] IOLI Bulletin

2016-10-25 Thread devonthein
Jean, what is the situation with the Bulletin? I guess the summer one has been
mailed since Janice received it. I was at a class this weekend and the people
who were the members of the IOLI board seemed to think that the Fall one
would be coming out almost immediately. They also thought we had all gotten an
email to that effect. But, I don’t recall getting such an email.

If IOLI has been given an email address the Membership Chair does send out
email reminders of when dues are due.

But this only works if the email address is correct so please be extra careful
when writing it down on the renewal form.

And as Janice mentioned you can always check the expiry date on the address
label when your bulletin arrives.

This is the system IOLI had before it was changed to the current one over 10
years ago. The problems with a single renewal date are (A) having to estimate
how many extra magazines to have printed to allow for new members joining
during the year, (B) finding somewhere to store all these extra magazines, (C)
the extra postage costs for sending out additional magazines (not something you
can pass on to a new member).

I have just sent in my renewal and am arranging to get the missing issues
since my membership expired. (Jacquie note - you will also be getting all

reminding me, but I'm not sure.

Perhaps IOLI should look at the system The Lace Guild uses. The renewals
are sent out once a year, in the magazine and the payment is for the next
four issues. It means everyone is on the same renewal date and if you join
mid year you get the back issues plus those still to come for that year. I
think The Lace Society uses the same method.

Jeri!  Thank you for posting this!  I have been looking for heavier silk
threads for a project that took form at the recent Ithaca Lace Days.
I took a class from Laura Friesel in design that was wonderful.  So many ways
to approach lace when designing a picture, and she was full of excellent
ideas.  If she does another class, I highly recommend her.
Thanks!
