There is news that the congress has approved a delay to the Obamacare
plan's effective date.

But the Senate has not agreed to that. As far as I can tell, the shut down
of the government is still scheduled for National Lace Day. I am no
conspiracy theorist, but... is there an anti-lace plot? Maybe conspiracy of
quilters and rug hookers? Possibly FIMO and Salsa dancers as fellow travelers?
Has anyone checked out the political activities of the cake decorators?

2013-09-29 Thread Bronwen of Hindscroft
The House voted along party lines to delay the Affordable Health Care Act
by a year (ie, Republicans have the majority, so it passed). Senate
majority leader has already stated that he will strip the funding bill of
ALL amendments and let it go through that way.

Freakin' politics. They are playing with people's LIVES - I personally
know too many people who would be extremely negatively affected should the
government be shut down on Oct 1. Heck, as my husband is a contractor on a
US Military Base, WE could have been extremely negatively effective, but
his job is mission critical, so they can't stop paying him.

Ob Lace: On October 1, I will most likely be taking my mother in law to
different furniture shops, and may be able to do some needle lace while
she's looking around. Depends on how much she wants to be pushed around in
her wheelchair, or if the salespeople bring things to her to see.

Bronwen,
in sunny Colorado Springs, where there are at least 4 military bases...

Ha ha! I wasn't anticipating it being that bad, but perhaps I should rethink
any plans to be out and about on that day! I guess it could shut down the

[lace] American Arachnids, How will you spend October 1?

2013-09-28 Thread Lyn Bailey
October 1 is the day American lacemakers are to demonstrate lacemaking. I
am planning to go to the local mall, sit in the central area where there are
chairs, and make lace. In the afternoon I go to my weekly knitting group,
and I will be bringing my lace instead of my knitting. How are you
planning to spend October 1? If you are working, how about bringing your
travel pillow to work on over lunch? If the weather is as lovely as it has
been, how about going to a public place, the town square, maybe the library,
perhaps with permission, and make lace there. I have heard of one lace
maker who made lace on street corners, downtown. I don't have any
non-working lacemaker friends close by, so I am going by myself. I do have
a half sheet of information, a popular manual that can be purchased on
Amazon, two suppliers, the names of the local lacemaking guilds, as well as
the national. Nothing fancy. I give it out to those who clearly have an
interest, not to everyone.

Lyn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA, where the weather for the past several
weeks has been glorious. Sit outside without a jacket, little rain,
sunshine or just a few clouds. Perfect outdoor lacemaking weather.
