Peter, I don't understand the problem. I can customize master document window
in the same way than normal Writer window (besides using tabbed toolbar). And
if you customize UI for normal documents it doesn't affect UI of master
documents.
So could you plee specify the problem? => NEEDINFO
Additional information:
I can't see "Layout" entry in view menu, so it must be your costomization.
