Thanks! Hi Mikos, I'm not sure you're correct that this bug is only about special characters. The bug I found was the same as in comment 1 by Christian Schlittchen dated 2012-06-08. PDF forms created in LibreOffice don't work cross-platform, apparently because the 'standard' Type 1 fonts originally selected by Adobe in the PDF specification are no longer supported in LibreOffice. Substitute form fonts are not embedded in the form fields, causing a 'missing fonts' error. Placeholder characters are shown instead, particularly in Adobe Reader. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50879 --- Comment #40 from Thorsten Behrens (CIB) --- I wonder how much of this is a bug, vs. a user experience deficiency. Technically, LibreOffice _could_ embed the entire font, for those that don't prohibit that in the font flags (N.B. most Windows fonts do _not_ permit that). The drawback is a significant increase in PDF size, especially for short 1-2 page forms (fonts with good unicode coverage are easily 2-10MB in size). For fonts where LibreOffice cannot embed more than a subset, several options come to mind: * leave things as they are, and perhaps issue a warning during export (suggesting users to pick one of the 12 standard PDF fonts) * try to be smart & embed a subset that matches the language selected at the text at hand * always fallback to Helvetia (or something) for PDF forms -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50879 --- Comment #30 from QA Administrators --- ** Please read this message in its entirety before responding ** To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone! So, all fonts, not only the standard fonts, will be embedded into the generated PDF file. Maybe you dont want the tags, but you get them, as well. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 50879] form exported as pdf does not embed all required fonts
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50879 --- Comment #1 from schlittc...@uni-bremen.de --- The problem is still there in 4.0.2.2. It is easy to reproduce: Create a form on Linux, export as PDF, open it using (for example) Acrobat Reader on Windows. You get a message about missing fonts (LiberationSans in my case). The static text shows ok, but the form fields only show placeholder chars when filled. Choosing to embed standard fonts while exporting does not help. This makes the creation of cross-platform PDF-forms effectivly impossible. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
