[LincolnTalk] 3 layered masks

2022-02-15 Thread Melody Elliott
I have three 3 layered masks in medium adult sizes. I bought these before
I measured my face and discovered that my proper size is "youth Xtra
small". I ordered them from the manufacturer after reading about superior
masks in a non-affiliated site online.

Besides having excellent filters they are surprisingly easy to breathe
through. They cost $16.50 each plus shipping. Take advantage of my
research, and sizing mistake. I love my youth sized masks.

2 are in sealed packs. I'm offering them for $15 each. I'm asking $10 for
the one I briefly tried on. I've read that the covid virus germs are
viable on surfaces for 3 days only, and these masks are washable. Each is
a solid pastel color.

[LincolnTalk] Unique vase

2022-02-15 Thread Melody Elliott
Apparently I didn't send the picture of the vase along with my notice. I
appreciate that several of you sent me messages about this.

The vase is 10" tall and 4.5" wide. It has a lovely amber color and many
flowers. This is a real steal at $15.00, but I no longer get display it
and would like to see it go to someone who wod appreciate it.

Re: [LincolnTalk] An important question about doggie poop bags (DPBs)

2022-02-15 Thread Bob Kupperstein
I know it's a little forward-thinking, but I'd love to see some kind of
composting solution in the future.

I cringe at the thought of all this pet waste being collected in plastic
bags every day, being transported and deposited into landfills (or even
incinerated), when it's an organic fertilizer that naturally breaks down
into useful nutrients, given the right conditions.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Lincoln Needs a Climate Action Plan!

2022-02-15 Thread Dennis Liu
Sue, can I ask a couple of simple questions? Do you, or the current members
of the committee/those who are working on this already, envision:

1. A course of action that will require Lincoln residents to incur
greater expense, whether it's through town spending, or a mandate to buy
something that they would otherwise not purchase without a regulatory
requirement?
2. Forcing another change to Lincoln residents that can be avoided only
by a resident taking an affirmative action to "opt-out" of the program?

Thanks,

Subject: [LincolnTalk] Lincoln Needs a Climate Action Plan!

The global climate crisis has us all wondering what we can do now and for
the next generation. The great news is that, as a town, we are not
powerless. Lincoln is going to develop a Climate Action Plan that will
address climate change on many levels!

Massachusetts is legally committed to net zero greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions by 2050 and a 50 percent reduction from 1990 levels by 2030. That
means we in Massachusetts must cut our use of fossil fuels by about one
third in eight years, a drastic reduction in the use of natural gas, oil and
propane to heat and cool houses, to run our cars, trucks, and buses, and to
generate electricity.

(See
https://malegislature.gov/Laws/SessionLaws/Acts/2021/Chapter8)

For the last year, volunteers from Climate Action Lincoln, a subcommittee of
the Green Energy Committee, have been learning about climate plans from our
neighboring towns. All of them-Lexington, Concord, Carlisle, Weston,
Arlington, Cambridge, Acton-have comprehensive plans and most have
Sustainability Managers. We have also met with 12 Town boards and
committees to hear about their efforts.

While Lincoln has done a lot to protect the environment, become more energy
efficient, and reduce GHG emissions, there is more we can do together as a
community.

We are pleased to announce that Jennifer Curtin, Assistant Director of
Planning and Land Use, will support our efforts. She is working to secure
grant funding for a consultant to lead Lincoln through development of a
Climate Action Plan.

A Climate Action Plan will address the interconnected issues of the climate
crisis:

* Electrification with renewable energy to reduce GHG emissions
* Mitigation and adaptation to climate impacts
* Ensuring environmental justice and supporting vulnerable populations

*   Safeguarding public health
* Creating sustainable and resilient infrastructure
* Protecting and regenerating ecological systems, including back
yards, forests, open space, farms, and wetlands.

A Climate Action Plan will also coordinate and recommend municipal,
commercial, and residential actions. It will address the built environment,
transportation, energy production, waste, and land use in Lincoln.

Town-wide participation is critical to developing a Climate Action Plan that
will achieve results, not just sit on a shelf or a website! In Lincoln,
actions by residents will be crucial to the success of a plan as Lincoln has
very small commercial and municipal sectors. The process of developing a
plan will include:

* Visioning: Engagement of all residents and stakeholders in town
* Data: Energy use, GHG emissions, carbon storage
* Analysis: Vulnerable populations, housing, infrastructure,
transportation
* Goals: Align with state and federal goals; interpret for residents
* Implementation: Timelines, accountable parties, measurement
* Financial implications: for the Town budget

As the Town works to secure funding for the plan, Climate Action Lincoln
would like to engage residents. To join our group, receive updates on our
progress, or arrange a presentation for your organization, please contact us

My hope would be that our trails, as well as our private properties, should be

Re: [LincolnTalk] An important question about doggie poop bags (DPBs)

2022-02-15 Thread Sara Mattes
I agree with the concept, but not with the cost
Don has made an important point.
I know a little about this when MMNHP decided to eliminate trash barrels for
the reasons Don has sited, and the increased stress on the Park’s budget.

As for an addition to Lincoln trails, purchased barrels that can be secured are
not cheap and we would need at least 40.
Then we would have to pay to have them emptied.
And other trash would be dumped there too, as Don noted.
Some people use public trash barrels to dump ALL their trash to avoid paying
garbage fees!
I suspect there might be some BoH regs involved as there would be a
concentration of a toxic waste.
And, would we pay DPW or Con. Comm staff for this nasty task?

I say we pay enough to own and maintain trails.
Let those who use them exercise just a wee modicum common sense (no need for
signs) and adopt some responsibility and gratitude for the use of our
wonderful trials,.
Let dog walkers remove their dog’s waste!

2022-02-15 Thread Joan Kimball
I agree with you. Don. Carry in, carry out.

The thought of barrels with untreated bagged feces is definately
unappealing. And what happens next?

Re: [LincolnTalk] An important question about doggie poop bags (DPBs)

2022-02-15 Thread Donald Hafner
One of the paradoxes of putting out trash receptacles is that then people use
them, not just for things on the trail but often for all other manner of stuff
they want to discard — which means now someone has to be tasked with regularly
emptying them. I like the Scouts’ motto: “If you carry it in, carry it back
out.” In the case of dogs, if they carry it in, their owners should carry it
out. ;-)

It is hard not to feel disrespected when one finds a knotted plastic dog poo

Folks, for the benefit if we runners and cyclists, can we just pick up our

It’s gross, I don’t wanna be reminded of it while working out, thank you.

Hi Gretchen,
We LOVE our Loll Designs outdoor furniture- chairs and outdoor couch and
table. www.lolldesigns.com. Made in the US with a lot of recycled
materials. It is extremely durable, comfortable and very easy to assemble.
Great customer service too. Not inexpensive but worth the money I think.

When we walk a trail with our dogs, sometimes we run into the decision of
"do we run all the way back and throw this bag out?" or "do we walk the
next hour with a bag in our hand?" or "can we discreetly hide it and get it
on the return?"

Admittedly, sometimes we forget and have to go back in and get it or we get
it the next day.

Knowing that we make mistakes, we assume others might too, so if we are
close to the end of a trail and see a bag that someone might have left for
a future pick up, we will pick it up. I think for the most part if someone
is going through the hassle of bagging the poop, their intention is to take
it with them.

[LincolnTalk] Lincoln Needs a Climate Action Plan!

2022-02-15 Thread Climate Action
The global climate crisis has us all wondering what we can do now and for the
next generation. The great news is that, as a town, we are not powerless.
Lincoln is going to develop a Climate Action Plan that will address climate
change on many levels!

Massachusetts is legally committed to net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
by 2050 and a 50 percent reduction from 1990 levels by 2030. That means we in
Massachusetts must cut our use of fossil fuels by about one third in eight
years, a drastic reduction in the use of natural gas, oil and propane to heat
and cool houses, to run our cars, trucks, and buses, and to generate
electricity.
(See https://malegislature.gov/Laws/SessionLaws/Acts/2021/Chapter8)

For the last year, volunteers from Climate Action Lincoln, a subcommittee of
the Green Energy Committee, have been learning about climate plans from our
neighboring towns. All of them-Lexington, Concord, Carlisle, Weston,
Arlington, Cambridge, Acton-have comprehensive plans and most have
Sustainability Managers. We have also met with 12 Town boards and committees
to hear about their efforts.

While Lincoln has done a lot to protect the environment, become more energy
efficient, and reduce GHG emissions, there is more we can do together as a
community.

We are pleased to announce that Jennifer Curtin, Assistant Director of Planning
and Land Use, will support our efforts. She is working to secure grant funding
for a consultant to lead Lincoln through development of a Climate Action Plan.

A Climate Action Plan will address the interconnected issues of the climate
crisis:

  * Electrification with renewable energy to reduce GHG emissions
  * Mitigation and adaptation to climate impacts
  * Ensuring environmental justice and supporting vulnerable populations
  *   Safeguarding public health
  * Creating sustainable and resilient infrastructure
  * Protecting and regenerating ecological systems, including back yards,
forests, open space, farms, and wetlands.

A Climate Action Plan will also coordinate and recommend municipal, commercial,
and residential actions. It will address the built environment, transportation,
energy production, waste, and land use in Lincoln.

Town-wide participation is critical to developing a Climate Action Plan that
will achieve results, not just sit on a shelf or a website! In Lincoln,
actions by residents will be crucial to the success of a plan as Lincoln has
very small commercial and municipal sectors. The process of developing a plan
will include:

  * Visioning: Engagement of all residents and stakeholders in town
  * Data: Energy use, GHG emissions, carbon storage
  * Analysis: Vulnerable populations, housing, infrastructure, transportation
  * Goals: Align with state and federal goals; interpret for residents
  * Implementation: Timelines, accountable parties, measurement
  * Financial implications: for the Town budget

As the Town works to secure funding for the plan, Climate Action Lincoln would
like to engage residents. To join our group, receive updates on our progress,
or arrange a presentation for your organization, please contact us at
