[LincolnTalk] Community Center Design Team Announcement

2023-03-07 Thread Krystal Wood
COMMUNITY CENTER BUILDING COMMITTEE

March 7, 2023

The Community Center Building Committee is pleased to announce that the
Town of Lincoln has entered into a contract with ICON Architecture, for
professional services associated with the development of plans for a
community center within the Hartwell Campus on the Ballfield Road school
campus. ICON will assist the CCBC in reviewing and refining the program
that has been developed for a new community center, and it will develop
schematic design options at various cost levels so that town residents can
make a fully informed choice on a preferred design and budget at a Special
Town Meeting in November.

ICON Architecture is 50-person women-owned business based in Boston that
specializes in institutional building types, building renewal,
multi-family, and affordable housing. The CCBC selected ICON after a
careful screening and selection process, which included interviews of four
firms (from among the six that submitted proposals), and an in-depth review
of the two finalists.

Representatives of ICON will attend the CCBC meeting on Wednesday, March 8,
to be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Donaldson Room at Town Offices, or over zoom
for those who prefer to participate remotely:

[LincolnTalk] Information Session Reminder (warrant articles re all-electric new construction)

2023-03-07 Thread Paul Shorb
Reminder: The second of two public information sessions regarding the two
warrant articles described below will start today (Tuesday) at 7 pm. We
will also answer questions. No pre-registration is necessary. The Zoom
link is
https://us06web.zoom.us/j/9423530?pwd=bkFNN0hIY2NMRllldnlWdHNzMVFIQT09;
Meeting ID: 942 3538 8880, Passcode: 460113.

Repeating Feb. 24 posting:

At our March 25 Town Meeting, Lincoln will have an opportunity to adopt two
measures that would follow up on the decision by the March 2022 Town
Meeting to seek authority to require that all new buildings and certain
major modifications be all-electric. Below is some brief background, with
suggestions for how you can learn more.

The Lincoln Green Energy Committee (GEC) and the Select Board are
sponsoring the two warrant articles, which have also been endorsed by the
Planning Board. Their combined effect would be to require that, after a
phase-in period, all new buildings in Lincoln and certain major additions
and renovations be all-electric and highly energy-efficient. All-electric
would include heating/cooling via air-source or ground-source heat pumps;
electric water heating; and cooking via induction or other electric
options. Highly energy-efficient includes high levels of insulation and
smart air exchange. Emergency generators would still be allowed.

Moving to all-electric buildings is a necessary part of Massachusetts
meeting the climate goals that were set in 2021 as part of a landmark
climate bill known as An Act Creating A Next-Generation Roadmap for MA
Climate Policy
. Those
goals include at least a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030
(compared to the 1990 baseline) and reaching net zero by 2050. Similar
reductions are necessary worldwide to reduce the probability of climate
disaster.

Links to materials for more information are collected here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Gq5aSbeqlABLFquna951o3kLP8eVsWsZVDn1OlV-f6U/edit?usp=sharing.
The GEC will also be posting more informational materials as they are
developed, at https://www.lincolngreenenergy.org/.

Combating the climate crisis in part through decarbonizing the
Massachusetts economy is an urgent but not easy task; it is going to take
all of us. Please get ready to support these proposals at the March 25 Town
meeting.

2023-03-07 Thread Terry Green
Hi Sarah,
I’ve had an induction cooktop for 8 years as we are an all electric condo. I
went from a gas cooktop. I love it.

I agree with Rich. Induction cooktops quickly heat up, are easy to use but they
do require special cookware (with iron - the cooktop uses electromagnets) and
May require an electrical upgrade.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Two questions.

2023-03-07 Thread Rich Rosenbaum
Regarding question 1:
*Would it be a good/bad idea to install an induction cooktop in a summer
rental cottage? We have to replace what is there, Any suggestions are
welcome.*

I'm a big believer in induction cooktops - they have a lot of advantages.
You should be aware of a few things though:

 - It may require an electrical upgrade to your kitchen, especially if you
are moving from a gas stove.
 - They require cookware that is compatible with induction - your current
cookware may or may not work

[LincolnTalk] Two questions.

2023-03-07 Thread sarah cannon holden
A couple of questions - totally unrelated!

1. Would it be a good/bad idea to install an induction cooktop in a
summer rental cottage? We have to replace what is there, Any suggestions
are welcome.

2. Does anyone have recommendations for good coastline hikes in England?
Either staying in one location and setting out each day or an extended one
way hike. We have about ten days in June for this adventure.

Thank you.

[LincolnTalk] Updated cell phone search to include T Mobile

2023-03-07 Thread Terry Kay Epperson
Good morning, Lincoln,

I’m part of a group back home trying to help an old high school friend
restart her life after years of misfortune that culminated in near
homelessness and a long hospital stay. Yesterday, I posted that she is in
need of a used but reliable phone that is either unlocked or Cricket
based. I’ve been informed that T Mobile is also an option! If you happen
to have any of these options, we would love to find ‘new to Vicki’ before
using funds to buy new. (Our goal is to use the funds that we’ve been
raising to help her find permanent shelter away from the situation she was
in before her hospital stay, so a used but reliable phone is now our
mini-goal!)

Warm regards,
Terry Kay
