[LincolnTalk] Stop Private Jet Expansion stand outs

2023-11-06 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Our weekly Lincoln stand outs on Rt 2A are over for the season. It is a bit
chilly and dark these days.
We are so grateful for all those friends and allies who showed up weekly to
hold signs and wave to passers-by. Thanks for the great conversations and
commitment to stopping this private jet expansion project. Private jet
expansion will increase our greenhouse gas emissions at a time when we must be
doing all we can to reduce them.
There is still much to be done, so please check the website
athttp://www.stopprivatejetexpansion.org for ways to stay involved.
Sincerely,

Trish O'Hagan and Alex Chatfield

I picked up my first load of rich Black Earth compost from Codman today so time

[LincolnTalk] Leaf blowers

2023-01-05 Thread Trish O'Hagan

Sending out a friendly reminder that from now until March 20th, 2023 only
battery powered or electric leaf blowers are permitted.

Lincoln passed a leaf blower bylaw back in 2019 thanks to the hard work of the
Leaf Blower Study Group. We are very appreciative of their work. Since then,
many cities, towns and states across the country have regulated and restricted
gas powered leaf blowers for the following reasons:

1)Noise pollution --Gas powered leaf blowers may be as high as 80-90 decibels,
electric leaf blowers in the 65-70 decibel range

2) Reduce fossil fuel use--Lincoln is committed to a swift transition to zero
carbon emissions.

3) Air pollution--the leaf blowers ( particularly the more powerful gas powered
ones) send all those soil particulates into the air where they worsen air
quality and are bad for human health, especially children and those with
chronic respiratory conditions.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/25/opinion/leaf-blowers-california-emissions.html

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/25/opinion/leaf-blowers-california-emissions.html

So whenever possible replace your gas powered leaf blower with an electric
model and ask your landscape company to do the same. Many in town use EcoQuiet
lawn care. Check out their website https://www.ecoquietlawncare.com/
https://www.ecoquietlawncare.com/

And then there is the other BIG question...should we really be blowing our
leaves away? Leaves are an integral part of soil health and in removing them
we also lose habitat for important pollinators. Check out Leave Leaves Alone,
a NY website and stay tuned for more info from Lincoln Common Ground, a
subgroup of Mothers Out Front Lincoln

Re: [LincolnTalk] For this concerned about climate change (I assume the is everyone)...

2022-12-10 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Thanks for sharing Sara. It is good to see the military reducing its green
house gas emissions. Electrification is the future, with solar and wind and
battery storage producing the electricity ( NOT coal plants ...there is still
one in Bow NH, and fracked gas)

[LincolnTalk] Supporting Donelans and its Sustainable Products

2022-09-22 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Introducing Zero Waste Lincoln

Support Donelans and its sustainable products!

Zero Waste Lincoln is a sub group of Mothers Out Front. We formed during the
pandemic at the request of town management and the DPW. Lincoln’s beloved Swap
Shed had been closed for safety reasons and residents and Mothers Out Front
Lincoln were eager to have it be reopened. After much brainstorming, we
decided to create Zero Waste Lincoln. So the Swap Shed and the Book Room have
been successfully open again for the past 18 months with the support of the DPW
and so many wonderful town volunteers. Thousands of items have found new homes
with Lincoln families or have been delivered to organizations who will reuse
them.

But Zero Waste Lincoln also works on the purchasing side of our trash problem.
Donelans have become an important ally in making sure that when we shop, there
are sustainable options. Jason Deveau, the manager, is happy to find non
plastic options for products.

Here are a few of the new more sustainable products you can find at Donelans

….Laundry detergent in cardboard –3 brands available

….Shampoo and conditioner bars –Brixy brand

….100% recycled toilet tissue and paper towels–2 brands available

….compostable single use plates/utensils/cold cups and straws

….compostable trash bags

….100% recycled aluminum foil

…Juices–large selection of flavors all in glass bottles

…paper bags for school lunches

….Single us water bottles in aluminum

….and of course, choose fruits and vegetables that are in season, grown locally
 and not packaged in plastic.

So check out Donelans…challenge your children to search the aisles for items
not in plastic!

The consumer choices we make send strong messages about the products we want to
see on the shelves.

Let us know of other products you would like to see in our local stores

If you are curious about Zero Waste Practices, we would welcome your ideas,
energy and talents, so please join us.

Hi everyone, another super hot day, so if you are out of power for a while and
need to cool off in some air conditioning, please reach out...you are welcome
to come to my home and spend some time cooling off. High heat kills far more
people globally than the cold, so be safe and let's help each other when we can.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Inquiry about Swap Table process

2022-05-10 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Hi Debra, thanks for your interest in the Swap Shed. This month is the 1 year
anniversary of our newly imagined Swap Shed reopening. With the support and
collaboration of the DPW, a Zero Waste Lincoln committee was formed. We
reached out to the town for volunteers and have been overwhelmed with gratitude
at how many people reached out to help.

Items in the Swap Shed remain there for a period of timeour goal is to send
as little as possible into the trash to be incinerated. We are constantly
amazed at how all sorts of items find a home to be reused. Our volunteers
remove items from the Swap shed and deliver them to many organizations who can
reuse/ repurpose them. We deliver to Household Goods in Acton, Restore in
Boston, Buddy Dog in Sudbury, Savors in Framingham, Goodwill, More than Words
in Waltham and even the Vases get returned to local florists for reuse. We try
really hard to find new homes for items.

Our community is so happy to have the Swap Shed back up and running and Zero
Waste Lincoln is eager for more people to be involved, so please reach out if
you are interested or have any ideas about how we as a community can reduce our
trash.
Gratefully,

Trish O'Hagan -Zero Waste Lincoln and Mothers Out Front

[LincolnTalk] Conservation Law Foundation: The Future is Electric March 24, 2022 | 5:30 PM-

2022-03-22 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Join the Conservation Law Foundation and friends in visualizing the future of
clean energy happening right now in our work, in your town, and even in your
kitchen!

As we watched gas and electricity prices increase this season, we also saw
their suppliers cry that the solution to our supposed energy shortage is more
fossil fuel infrastructure - more disruptive fracking, more fragile and
explosive pipelines slithering underneath our homes, and more toxic fumes that
pollute our air. But we know that fossil fuels cause indiscriminate damage to
our climate. That polluting emissions warm our world, corrupt our air, and
bring extreme weather to our communities.

https://connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/#!!=io.ox/mail=default0/INBOX

A great opportunity for our community to learn more about electrification as a
way to reduce our use of fossil fuels.
Thanks

Re: [LincolnTalk] Citizen's Petition for Town meeting

2022-03-15 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Dear Pat
Thanks so much for your interest in this Citizen's petition. Hopefully you can
join us on Thursday 3/17 at 3pm as we all share ideas and learn together about
electrification of buildings as a way to combat the climate emergency. The link
is below.
*  Mar 17, 2022 03:00 PM
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81095315671 https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81095315671

Meeting ID: 810 9531 5671

Please know that this is just the very beginning of the process. We are in no
way interested in rushing any new bylaws in Lincoln. There will be plenty of
time and reflection and input from our citizens to determine what is best for
our community.
To be clear, the Citizen's petition, if passed, would simply ask the
legislature to give Lincoln the option to require new construction to be all
electric. In the meantime, Lincoln could begin a robust discussion about what
works best for our town and would require a vote at a town meeting in the
future.
I hope this helps clear up some of your concerns.
Best,

Trish O'Hagan

Re: [LincolnTalk] Webinars regarding Citizen's Petition for Town meeting

2022-03-12 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Dear Stephanie,
Thanks so much for your interest in the webinar. Hopefully you will join us
this week as we all share ideas and learn together about electrification of
buildings as a way to combat the climate emergency.
To be clear, the Citizen's petition, if passed, would simply ask the
legislature to give Lincoln the option to require new construction to be all
electric. At that time, Lincoln could begin a robust discussion about what
works best for our town and would require a vote at a town meeting in the
future.
I hope this helps clear up some of your concerns.
Best,

Trish O'Hagan

[LincolnTalk] Webinars regarding Citizen's Petition for Town meeting

2022-03-12 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Citizen’s Petition — Restrict Fossil Fuel Systems in New Buildings
Related to climate change advocacy, a group of residents is asking Town Meeting
to support a petition to the state legislature that would require new
construction be all-electric for heating, cooling, and indoor cooking. Lincoln
would join other towns who similarly have petitioned the state. The changes
are necessary to help achieve the statewide reductions in greenhouse gas
emissions nset in the climate act signed in March 2021. Learn more at Zoom
meetings on Monday 3/14, 7-8pm, and Thursday, 3/17, 3-4pm (links below), or
call Trish O’Hagan (781-248-5657) or Paul Shorb (617-543-5590) with questions.

Re: [LincolnTalk] town-wide aggregate utility program

2022-01-11 Thread Trish O'Hagan
Just look up Lincoln Green Energy Choice on the town website. And have a copy
of your electricity bill with you. And for at least the next 6 months you can
buy 100% local Renewable electricity for a lower price than Eversource.
Thank you so much for considering this amazing programme. The only way we can
reach our Greenhouse Gas emission reduction goals is by electrification and
using renewable sources to make that electricity.
Happy to talk about it with you if you would like

[LincolnTalk] ISO shelving or a table for Lincoln's Swap Shed

2021-09-19 Thread Trish O'Hagan
The Swap Shed at the transfer station is looking for donations of some shelves
( plastic or wire preferably, but wood is OK) and a couple of tables. They
need to be sturdy, but do not need to be in good condition.

The success of the newly imagined Swap Shed with an emphasis on Zero Waste is a
community effort and we appreciate everyone who volunteers/ donates/comes by to
"shop" with their children. But as we are no longer throwing items out at the
end of each day, we do need to work a little harder at keeping it organized and
not overflowing. Extra shelving and tables will help us in this. So please
reach out and we can arrange pick up/drop off.
Best wishes,

Trish O'Hagan Mothers Out Front Lincoln

[LincolnTalk] Lincoln Green Energy Choice--Yard signs coming down BUT you can still sign up!

2021-08-10 Thread Trish O'Hagan

Thanks very much to everyone who has hosted a lawn sign to boost awareness of
the 100% renewable energy option under the Lincoln Green Energy Choice option.
We are so grateful to all the residents who have chosen to make a significant
environmental impact by "opting up" to 100% renewable energy. But while we are
thrilled with the community support, we are hopeful that more residents will
continue to sign up athttp://www.LincolnGreenEnergyChoice.com .
Yesterdays Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ( IPCC) report was a stark
reminder of the reality of the Climate Crisis, as they called it a "code red
for humanity". Yet we are fortunate in Lincoln to have an easy and affordable
option to move away from fossil fuels and towards a renewable energy future.

It is so great to see all the electric cars in Lincoln but we must ensure that
that electricity used to power those cars is coming from 100% renewable
sources. ( Did you know that New England still has a coal fired power plant in
Bow New Hampshire that is used on very hot or cold days when demand is high?).
Please reach out if you have any questions or want to join us.

We chose lawn signs made of paper stock instead of plastic. (Most plastic is
made from fossil fuels and its production typically results in the release of
potent global-warming gases like methane.) So as expected, those that are still
up now look a little dilapidated. We plan to come around to collect them and
recycle their materials. Feel free to recycle your own or, if you still love
having your sign up and don't want us to collect it, contact Trisha O'Hagan at
pmok...@comcast.net mailto:pmok...@comcast.net .

Again, we are so appreciate to everyone who opted up to 100%consider
inviting a friend or neighbour to do the same.
Best,
Trisha O'Hagan
