[marketing] FUDCON APAC Call for Papers

2016-09-02 Thread S.Kemter
FUDCON APAC Call for Papers

FUDCon is the Fedora Users and Developers Conference, a major free software
event held in various regions around the world, usually annually per region.
FUDCon is a combination of sessions, talks, workshops, and hackfests in
which project participants can work on specific initiatives.
FUDCon is always free to attend for anyone. For 2016 the FUDCon for the
APAC region will be in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It will be held at Norton
University (NU) Phnom Penh from 04. to 06. November 2016. The event happens
synchronized with the BarCamp Phnom Penh/ASEAN, the biggest technology
oriented event in Cambodia and one of the biggest in the region. With 4.000
registered visitors.

We looking for...

FUDCon APAC 2016 now searches for contributions in form of talks,
hackfests, workshops and hands-on.
This years edition will be more user oriented therefor we looking for
articles which describe what you can do with free software and Fedora in
particular and hands-on how to begin/start particular things in or with
Fedora and/or Free Software. We welcoming contributions who help users to
migrate to Free Software, make their first steps in a particular
programming language or using and contributing to Fedora. We also looking
for contributions, who show exciting developments in the Free Software and
Fedora world. Addional there will be one day with slots for things which
could be improved in Fedora or in Fedora APAC in particular.

As FUDCon is co-located with other events and has an exhibition area,
Fedora should be also part of this. We would like to have not just an
static booth and would like if speakers also submit short presentations,
that can be hold in the exhibition area.

Submission and Registration

You can submit your ideas for talks, workshops and hackfests to the
following form [0].

As FUDCon is always free to attend for anyone, you can register with this
formular [1], an important note the budget for travel sponsoring is limited
and we cant sponsor everybody, so there will be an selection process. For
the people who submit papers, please use also the registration formular, as
it gives us different information as the formular for the submissions.

Deadlines

The deadline for submissions will be the 25. of September 2016 , speakers
will be informed until 5. of October 2016.

Hi,

@stickster I saw you message, this morning. There is a small change needed,
nb pushed the badges yesterday in the evening, so I can put the links in
today, then the article would be from my side ready.

Publishing date should be 31st of August or 1st of September, when Nuancier
is open to receive submissions.

I have another question, I have now everything set for FUDCon APAC
(finally) and will be ready to call in a few days, is that something for
Magazine or Communityblog?

We should probably tailing it with Beta, we should not wait to long to get
nearer to the release otherwise our Ambassadors have not enough time to
organize something in time. Maybe even before Beta

[Marketing] community blog article

2016-04-29 Thread S.Kemter
Hi,

I made another article in the community blog:
https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/lets-have-a-party/

We have to animate our Ambassadors to start thinking on their release
parties, that might help.

Maybe its a good idea to make an article in Fedoramagazine when the release
is there about the parties and where they are.

article supplemental wallpaper

2015-09-14 Thread S.Kemter
Hi,

On 17th ends the voting for the supplemental wallpaper, I think it would be
also good we announce the "winners" in fedoramagazine. I try since days to
write something about it, but always somebody else wants something from me,
I have simple to much to do right now.

I uploaded yesterday something but according to the SEO plugin its much to
short.

Can somebody help me finish it? I can make the pictures in the night when
the voting closes.

Problem here is simple, that the results are published automatically, so if
somebody else picks it up before feodramagazine, its lesser news then.

Vote for the Supplemental Wallpaper

2015-09-13 Thread S.Kemter
Hi,

The submission phase for the supplemental wallpaper ended last night. The
voting for them is open now and its only until 17th of September you can
cast your vote.

We have 151 candidates in the pool, so its a hard job as some of them are
very good. On the other hand its easy to find 16 wallpaper you like.

We use Nuancier for the voting https://apps.fedoraproject.org/nuancier and
everybody has CLA +1 can vote.

  magazine articles:

  1) seems that short articles are more attractive than the long ones and
they have to arouse the curiosity, so people reading may deepen the
topic in a second time and more carefully.

I think this depends on the topic. If you look at our stats, the best
performing recent post was Jiří's rather long article on Firefox
theme. I don't remember a discussion of short vs. long articles, but
rather that *certain* long articles might not be best for the Magazine
-- like a very long article about a highly internal-focused topic,
 like contributor statistics.

  2) there's the need to have more user/contributor focused articles
instead of technical explanation. People need to be part of the Project
and there's nothing better than writing for them.

I think one thing we agreed on is that the reader we're looking to
reach is not limited just to desktop users. Rather, we also want to
reach users of the Cloud edition, and users of the Server edition, and
provide useful articles for them as well.

I don't think we reached a complete agreement as to contributor
articles. But I think people did agree there were certain types of
contributor topics that weren't appropriate for the general Magazine:

 * election info
 * team stats information
 * meeting minutes

when it comes to election info, that would mean i could not post the
results of the wallpaper election or didnt it mean more endless long
interviews with candidates for fesco.

Re: Help us rebrand rawhide

2015-08-17 Thread S.Kemter
Hi,

just 2 cents from me, even the name for Rawhide comes from a song its still
a piece of leather in his first stage and it will become something else
like shoes or a belt or whatever is made out of leather later. So looking
from that perspective we should find a name, like mokasin. The name should
represent the movement it the leather process. That will not only help in
market this new branch as also Rawhide.

Okay, I'm hearing this pretty strongly. :) Let me throw this out,

We'll probably actually implement this by making it run in parallel to
existing Rawhide, so both will exist at the same time for a while. In
fact, Rawhide-as-it-is could continue to exist in parallel forever.
 Does that change anything?

Brainstorming F23 design

2015-06-03 Thread S.Kemter
Hi,

It is on time to start thinking on the next Fedora release and how it shall
be visual represented.

We always had until board disabled the code names a brainstorm session to
find out how the name could be visualized.

Well we found solutions for F20 with the roman XX, we found one for F21
with the phoenix design and used the bg from the flavors as the one for F22

As you can see it gets harder for us to come up with something, we
definitely have to come together again and make a brainstorming what F23
could be look visual. That was topic in yesterdays meeting and we did think
that wednesday June 10th would be the ideal date for it, the time will be
the same as for the regular meetings of Design Team 6pm UTC.

I have one idea in mind but we still have one week to get some ideas, which
we can develop in the meeting then

Re: F21 media

2014-09-05 Thread S.Kemter
Hi,

discussions for USB sticks, Live USB Creator that was the thing once
called, https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/LiveUsbCreator or
Wifi-Special-Mirror are very far from the problem

But now back to ideas for the visibility.

How would it be not to brand it as desktop from the outside. What I mean
is normally we do this cheap envelopes. How would be we do this time so
called Digisleeve or DigiFile (I mean here the format, we should not choose
the brand). Problem with the other one is, if you take a look:

https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/d/d5/Fedora-20-livemedia-mate_compiz-64.pdf

on the backside is no space left at all through the necessary legal text.
On front the edge with architecture as the text what media it is not
necessary from a legal point, we do it more of historical reasons. With an
Digisleeve or Digifile we had one page more in the inside, where we can
place server and cloud text for marketing reason. It will be little bit
more expensive but think lesser as producing server media

another option would be to paper wrap them, like
https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/7/70/Fedora-20-foldinginstructions.pdf
that can be done from vendors also, we could keep, it except legal text
also very neutral and would have the whole inside for information about
fedora.next and the other products.

There would be several such solutions.

So there would be other options as producing server media for getting
attention that there is a change and we have now server, cloud and
workstation

Note that will not touch the other sleeves and media artwork Design Team
does: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/MediaArt/F20 the opposite,
there will be sleeves for server and maybe also cloud. But hopefully
somebody tells us how all the media will be called in the future

I had a similar idea. Why not have a box+wifi access point with local

people could do that during talks, not just in between talks. Also,
 regarding
the challenge to get a USB key or some other swag, the challenge could
 reside
on the box with the images (I'm envisioning something like a Fedora python
 challenge [0]).

Talking to MarkDude in #fedora-mktg, he thought there could easily be a
 FAD to
develop something like this. It would by no means replace physical media,
 but
might be able to extend the visibility of the Fedora booth pretty well.

I have more thoughts on how it could be implemented and leveraged, but
 will hold
off until the brain trust has some time to decide if it's worth going

@Ruth is that not heavily depending on the budget, what it can be?

from marketing perspective I would say something fedora.next related, how

Something they put in the attendee bag on behalf of your project.
 Generally
a postcard or flyer of some sort. Sticker. Sometimes a USB stick or
 pen or
whatever. A notable exception is Open Hardware Summit, which
 requires all
bag inserts to be useful items.

 Thank you Ruth.

IMHO in this case we can write a Fedora presentation with target to
how to get Fedora and how to contribute.

At the moment I'm not sure that talking about Fedora.next is
productive, because links are not ready (new site is still work in
progress), but it's certainly a added value to the Project.

The graphic to apply is also in a alpha phase, but that's a secondary
 problem.

So we have to decide if is the case to mention Fedora.Next (added
value) or don't talk of it.

In any case I think we should produce a flyer.

I think I've deleted the slide in question from the rotation.

nope its still there

 Looking at
it, the original image uploaded to WordPress was too small to fill the
 area of the slideshow.

Please have a look and see if I got the right one.

well I just wondering with all this highly communication skilled people,
why the person who did it, not used that skill and just asked somebody from
Design Team, I am sure we have the svg so we can do the necessary size.

It's the same with the banner and the post to it himself, sometimes a
little bit communication helps. I am a little bit shocked, that somebody
declared here we have some versions, because we have not.

the banner for F20 you can find here:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F20_Artwork not here
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F20_Artwork/Submissions/Banners

well where is the difference, just look to

 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F18_Artwork/Submissions/Banners

you will find 2 banners from me, the first one with the spanish torrero was
not used as this sport hurt some feelings of people. The same problem we
had with F19 there, the cat eye banners was not used as for some africans,
such eyes are bad omen.

so hopefully there will be communication in the future.

fedoramagazin banner

2013-10-11 Thread S.Kemter
Hi,

just a question who is responsible for that horrible blurred banner on
fedoramagazine? Would you please set it to the correct size.

Btw the wallpaper for F20 on the slide is also stretched

Hi,

Ankur, please tell me where you have seen the 1.400 different files that
have to be done for the counter banner. I am very interested to see them.

  Thanks!

 The post looks great! :D

I'll get working on the JS for the websites team so we can use widgets
that will automatically change the banner as the release progresses. It
just might be a little too early in the cycle for this though. I'll talk
 to websites and find out.

If you begin to ban, for any reason, people can think that this is your

I prefer the admin makes a public advice, pointing out that he's a
troll, telling him that next posts will be erased if he will not stop.

again, banning in social media is different from other eco-systems - and
is normally not a good way - because this gives them a challenge to come
back and it gives them too much attention ;) - i think we give him too
 much attention already ;)

And IMHO, if you really have to block or ban him, do it with less
excitement around it as possible - because trolls are emotional
atrophied people and will love the fuss

Re: List of LUGs

2012-10-17 Thread S.Kemter
Hi,

There is a nearly acutal list covering the LUG
Germany/Austria/Switzerland/Luxembourg

http://www.linux-user.de/LUG

But keeping that actual is much work, I know it very well I tried that
more then 3 years

Week before last, we discussed in the IRC meeting whether there was an
existing list of Linux User Groups around the world, and not finding one,
whether we could/should create one. Today I discovered we already did...

 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/LinuxUserGroups

Does anybody want to take on the task of working on making sure its links
are still working and adding to the list?
