Re: [Mimblewimble] Logo Contest

2017-11-16 Thread Lukas Kubicek
Hello all,
I am urza_cc from chat.

Great idea running 99designs, thanks for that.

Just wanted to say that ₲ is great idea. Very practical and usable having
it as unicode symbol.

>From the graphical logos I like the idea of hat - that conveys privacy (see
chrome incognito browsing for example) and also has hidden a little bit of
wizardry in it - which the mimble wimble cryptography feels like.. and also
the Harry Potter reference..

https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/mysterious-cryptocurrency-needs-creative-logo-769896/entries/171

https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/mysterious-cryptocurrency-needs-creative-logo-769896/entries/42

..probably these two but more as a starting point than final logo.

I dislike all that look like generic corporate logos. Especially anything
that has more than 2 colours and too many lines etc.

Have a nice day you all
urza

Solid Casey - Really appreciate that you put the 99 designs poll together
even though we didn't end up with one of the designs.
It's great to have a few new ideas.

That being said, +1 for ₲ - super elegant and clean.

Re: [Mimblewimble] Logo Contest

2017-11-15 Thread 0xb100d
Will keep looking at the logos, how long do we have to choose? I think it is a
real boon that the ₲ symbol exists, very currency-looking.

Re T-Shirts, my friend is a master screenprinter and I almost had some made for
Scaling Bitcoin conference (at the very least to give Andrew one) but didn't
get them finished in time. Very happy to get some made for those interested...
I'm proud to contribute something even if just of liminal value...

Set up reddit.com/r/grinmw and twitter.com/grinmw if they ever become
useful/necessary. Currently the twitter is just scraping the web for
mimblewimble posts (mostly ours at this point via mailing list) and tweets
them. Link shortener broke so future posts will work.

Are many of the contributors from the netherlands? Keep seeing mimblewimble
meetups in Amsterdam.

2017-11-15 Thread Ignotus Peverell
I've looked at the last updates on 99designs and there is a marked improvement:

https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/mysterious-cryptocurrency-needs-creative-logo-769896/entries

My top 3 at this point:

- #180 is along the lines of the ₲ symbol that some seem to like (I tend to
think it's great as currency symbol, maybe less so as project logo).

- I still like #183, but the alternating length lines make it look blurry. It's
likely the desired effect but can't I like it as-is.

- There's something to #174, but it could stand some simplification.

I do like the 0xb100d proposition but I think it's both too complex for a logo
and too edgy/weird to use as a public image. But I'd love a celebratory t-shirt
with it for testnet. And I strongly dislike the pyramids, it reminds me of the
American dollar (the pyramid) and the illuminati symbols.

I like the attempt from Fola. Perhaps we could do a second run with 99

Re: [Mimblewimble] Logo Contest

2017-11-15 Thread Ethan Heilman
Grin is a blocksnake rather than a blockchain:
It constricts transactions (valueshuffle),
eats them whole,
and then digests them (cut-throughs).

Grins mascot should be a snake in the shape of a G. This would also look
nice on a hat.

Re: [Mimblewimble] Logo Contest

2017-11-14 Thread Casey Rodarmor
I wasn't super excited about the hats. They fit with the theme, but didn't
strike me as being very well done.

I've selected the 6 finalists, the top 4 from the polls, as well as one of
my favorites, and one of the designers who submitted a few creative designs.

I gave the finalists instructions to consider the brief and a few pointers
for ideas that weren't explored in the first round, so we'll see what
happens.

2017-11-13 Thread Ignotus Peverell
Sorry for being so late to the party. To be honest I'm a little disappointed by
99designs, while most results look professional, they're not very creative. I
just voted and if I had to pick I would go with this like Casey, but remove the
'80s 3D glasses color style :-)

Re: [Mimblewimble] Logo Contest

2017-11-12 Thread Fola Adejumo
Great contribution Casey, thank you,

My personal faves are:

1) #37
https://99designs.co.uk/logo-design/contests/mysterious-cryptocurrency-needs-creative-logo-769896/entries/37

2) #114
https://99designs.co.uk/logo-design/contests/mysterious-cryptocurrency-needs-creative-logo-769896/entries/114

3) #150
https://99designs.co.uk/logo-design/contests/mysterious-cryptocurrency-needs-creative-logo-769896/entries/150

However, I'm not sure I strongly like any of them, they look like a company
logo and don't look like a currency. I prefer to err towards more a currency
look and feel. If they could make it simpler with more of a currency look that
would be much better.

Thanks in advance,

Also, keep in mind that we have an opportunity for further tweaks in
the final round. If there's a logo but you don't like the color,
background, or would like a minor tweak, do note that in your
comments!

thank you Casey. I’ll look through them this weekend.

Help me understand a couple things:

there won’t be any premining or ICO, correct?

Hi all!

Derek and I are running a logo design contest on 99 designs for Grin.
The logo that wins the design contest isn't guaranteed to become
Grin's logo, but should produce one or more strong options.

There have been a total of 171 (!) submissions to the contest. I've
narrowed them down to 16, which seems like a manageable number to
choose from. You can see them all here:

https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/mysterious-cryptocurrency-needs-creative-logo-769896/entries

You can see the ones that I've declined, click on the garbage can
icon. If you see something good in there that I declined, please feel
free to ping me with the #.

The next step in the process is to choose 6 finalists, whom we'll work
with to produce the final logo.

I've created two polls with 8 entries each. It would be super awesome
if you voted on your favorite logos and leave comments with what you
think:

https://99designs.com/contests/poll/a166a7025a
https://99designs.com/contests/poll/7838cc187c

My personal favorites at the moment are:

https://images-platform.99static.com/SAVeygZMmUtao8owc4OWfNu5rrU=/filters:quality(100)/99designs-contests-attachments/90/90313/attachment_90313030

The first is nice because the shape is so minimal. It could be used as
a currency mark on its own, similar to $ or ฿. The latter I like
because it's simple and strong.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Best,
Casey
