Re: Question on a CPAN::Mini::Inject takeover with actual perms but questionable process (cc fixed)
Fwiw, as of now this has resulted in a new release with a raft of changes, among which is this: https://metacpan.org/release/BRIANDFOY/CPAN-Mini-Inject-1.003/diff/MITHALDU/CPAN-Mini-Inject-0.37#META.yml Of which Karen Etheridge (ETHER), as another contributor, disapproves. CPAN indexing issue with your config distribution
Hi Yaroslav, I'm one of the PAUSE admins. You've done a number of releases of your "config" distribution, but you may have noticed that it's never been indexed by PAUSE, which means it doesn't show up in your list of releases on MetaCPAN, for example: https://metacpan.org/author/DART This is because your distribution is called "config" and it contains a module called "config", but someone else already has an indexing permission on Config, and package names are treated case insensitively by PAUSE. The easiest way to resolve this is to rename your module (and distribution) to use a name that doesn't already have an indexing permission assigned. I noticed there is Config::Constants, which I think has a similar goal with yours? Maybe you could call yours Constant::FromFile or something like that? Cheers, Neil

PAUSE indexer failed to index TableData-Business-ID-BPOM-NutritionLabelRef releases
Hi Perlancar, Your releases of the distribution TableData-Business-ID-BPOM-NutritionLabelRef aren't being indexed, because you've hidden the package statement in TableDataRole::Business::ID::BPOM::NutritionLabelRef so that the PAUSE indexer can't see it. PAUSE now requires that the releaser has an indexing permission (first-come or co-maint) on the package name that matches the distribution name. Normally you're given first-come on the lead module when you do the first release, and then it meets this special criterion, and other packages/modules in the release are then eligible for indexing. If you keep the lead module's package statement hidden from PAUSE, then no modules in the distribution are ever going to be indexed. looking to adopt Net-Flickr-Backup
Hello, strangers, Net-Flickr-Backup has had a pretty significant bug since at least 2019, which means that it doesn't back up `my-cool-video.mp4` to that filename, but instead loses the file extension. This makes the backup somewhat less easy to use. I supplied a fix about five years ago, but there has been no reply then or recently. There hasn't been a new release since December 2010, and this particular distribution was the author's most recent upload. I'll try to contact him at his resume address (??) but that might be my only lead atm. -- rjbs

Hi Rafa, I can blank out the details on your account, so it doesn't have your name or email address associated with it, and then mark it as available for deletion. Are you ok with that? Question on a CPAN::Mini::Inject takeover with actual perms but questionable process (cc fixed)
Ahead, sorry, the first version of this email went to the wrong mailing list address. Hey Shawn, Andy, Randy; I'm including you because you might contribute some valuable historic insight or opinions here as the most significant contributors to CMI. Dear PAUSE admins: I am Mithaldu, until recently the primary maintainer and (by commits and releases) second-majority author of https://metacpan.org/release/MITHALDU/CPAN-Mini-Inject-0.37 briandfoy has only minimally contributed code and was not the original author, but has owner perms on CPAN::Mini::Inject, and decided yesterday to remove my comaint. He did this without contacting me, or me having indicated a lack of interest, and in spite of me still demonstrably being an active (tho not perfect) maintainer. My question is: Is there room to consider this an actionable step based on evidence over perms, or do perms trump this case? My evidence is below: CMI has a history of 166 commits in total. In summary I have contributed 35 of the tracked commits of this module personally, and merged another 29, i.e. shepherded a total of 39% of the commits onto CPAN in 9 releases. In that time briandfoy has contributed only 1 notable and 5 minor commits to the actual development (i.e. 3%), and has not done a single full release of CMI himself, outside of trial releases. As best as i can tell the timeline is as follows, worked out via batchpause/PAUSE-git , https://github.com/AndyA/CPAN--Mini--Inject , https://github.com/ssoriche/cpan--mini--inject : - 2004 to 2008 - SSORICHE does 11 releases, with 54 commits - 2009-02-23 - SSORICHE hands firstcome to BDFOY - 2009-05-10 - ANDYA acquires comaint and moves to github (without BDFOY) - 2009-05-15 - BDFOY contributes one notable commit via ANDYA - 2009 to 2010 - ANDYA contributes 33 commits and 4 more releases - 2010 - MITHALDU contributes 12 commits - 2010 - BDFOY contributes 5 minor commits and 3 trial releases of work by MITHALDU and becomes unresponsive - 2011-05-07 - MITHALDU gains comaint in response to a complaint on modules@ - 2011 to 2017 - MITHALDU contributes 17 more commits, handles merging of 29 commits (including 23 by RWSTAUNER), and handles 7 releases - 2020 - BDFOY acquires firstcome on CPAN::Mini::Inject::Config - 2023 - MITHALDU contributes another 6 commits and 2 releases - 2024-05-23 - BDFOY removes comaint from MITHALDU briandfoy has undeniable held firstcome for CMI for many years, and I am happy to see that he is planning to contribute more, but given that he went as far as removing my comaint with zero communication, i find his behavior questionable, and thus ask the question above. Full disclosure: Based on what I consider to be misbehavior of his on the perl subreddit I have criticized him publicly in the past, for which he harbors a grudge against me. Based on that and interactions we've had in the meantime, I fully expect him to simply ignore me if I were to contact him about this, thus wanted to learn first if there even is any room to question here. -- With regards, Christian Walde (Mithaldu)

Re: Request to remove Chart::Graph from cpan/metacpan
Well Neil, that's not the best solution for me because the goal was to not dead-end someone who found our cpan email address on an official page (i.e, https://metacpan.org/pod/Chart::Graph), but I guess we'll just hope they get the message when the email gets ignored/rejected. > If you went with the first option, I could blank out the email address associated with the CAIDAPERL account, to stop you getting any email. Yes Neil, you have my blessing to give yourself permissions to do a release which removes the email addresses. Re: Request to remove Chart::Graph from cpan/metacpan
Neil, Thank you for answering me! Let's put it up for adoption then, though I don't think this will be useful to anyone anylonger. We'd like the CONTACT and AUTHOR section to remove any official implication that we're supporting it anymore, even though I know our email address is embedded in the Changelog. We've not really touched this module since 2015, and earnest development on it stopped around 2000, 2001. We're shutting down the c...@caida.org email since it's just become a spam catcher with no legitimate traffic in the past few years :) -Alex On 5/23/2024 8:13 AM, Neil Bowers wrote: You have several options, the main ones being: 1. I can make this change, if you decide to go this route. 2. It can be scheduled for deletion. Normally this is done by the user who uploaded it, i.e. Greg, but given the affiliation with CAIDA listed on the module's documentation, I could schedule the deletion for you. 72 hours (3 days) later, it would be deleted from CPAN. The downside of this approach is that it might pull the rug from under someone else who is using it, and makes it unlikely that someone would come across it and decide to adopt it. If you went with the first option, I could blank out the email address associated with the CAIDAPERL account, to stop you getting any email. Hopefully option 1 is ok with you?

The AECOOPER Account On The Pause Server
Dear Sir/Madam, I had an account, AECOOPER, on your pause server, which I haven't used for about 8 years, and it has been locked. This was associated with the Monotone project originally (my package was Monotone::Automatestdio). However I have started developing stuff in Perl again and wish to upload some new modules. To compound the issue, after a service call, my old ISP erroneously closed my account without warning, completely their fault, and so I had no chance to transfer accounts across to my new email. The old email address was aecoo...@coosoft.plus.com, my new email is aecoope...@gmail.com (as shown above). I have included an old email header and body from you to help verify who I am if that helps. Could you please unlock my account and grant me access, updating my email address. Many thanks in advance, Yours sincerely, Anthony Cooper. CPAN, I am the Manager of Scientific Projects at the Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis and I'm writing to request that our CAIDA Perl module Chart::Graph be removed/unlisted from CPAN. https://metacpan.org/pod/Chart::Graph Chart::Graph - Perl extension for a front-end to gnuplot, XRT, and Xmgrace - was last updated in 2015 and has been obsoleted at CAIDA, is problematic, and we no longer support this wrapper around Gnuplot. Maintaining List::Gen
Hi all, there are some long standing unresolved issues with List::Gen that I'd like to resolve. (Actually, I already did.) I tried to contact the maintainer "Eric Strom" , but didn't get a response. There are open issues on this module's queue (https://rt.cpan.org/Dist/Display.html?Name=List-Gen) dating back 12 years for the current module version. Does anybody have any information about the maintainer? Best regards, -jo

Re: Failed: PAUSE indexer report TEODESIAN/URI-Shorten-0.001.tar.gz
Hi George, The reason your URI-Shorten-0.001 release wasn't added to the index is because the distribution name didn't match the module name. Your module is called URI::Shortener, but the distribution name is URI::Shorten. For security reasons, PAUSE requires that a distribution called Foo-Bar contains a module/package called Foo::Bar. Previously we didn't have this restriction, but it would have meant that you got an indexing permission on URI::Shorten, and then someone else could release a module called URI::Shortener, they'd get the indexing permission on that, and now there would be two distributions called URI-Shortener. The easiest fix would be to change the name to URI-Shortener in your dist.ini, bump the version to 0.002 and you should be good to go. Cheers, Neil
