[Openfontlibrary] urw donated or not
the urw font package is one of the best quality collection of free-as-freedom fonts, gplized for the ghostscript project the people say on the web that these sources were *donated* by urw but, in the Raph Levin blog in advocato I found: http://www.advogato.org/person/raph/diary/257.html By the way, URW did not donate these fonts under the GPL out of their own hearts. Artifex paid good money for them, and donated them out of a mix of self-interest and altruism. Is this really the case? thanks! BTW: i wrote some posts in www.disenolibre.org for disseminating information about the next LGM 2008 and free font movement topics, Open Font Library too (in spanish!) ___ Openfontlibrary mailing list Openfontlibrary@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/openfontlibrary
Re: [Openfontlibrary] [Fwd: Updates of liberation-fonts.]
hello, http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=45785 reading the changelog in the link above, it seems like there were only small changes in some metainfo fields, and no changes in the design (except for alignement mismatch dot accents) -- is that right? also: was the license updated to plain GPL+font exception, without the polemic extra clauses under which the first release came out? and finally: is there a zip with the current ttf versions of the fonts somewhere? thanks, - gustavo. My (limited) understanding is Liberation is getting re-hosted from RedHat to Fedora with the objective to set it up as a normal floss project, with regular public releases, scripted build-from-source, sfd sources in a VCS, patch merging, etc. So the first step is not so much changing the font as switching its infrastructure so it can be maintained as a community project (like DejaVu, Lohit, etc) You can get more answers on the Fedora fonts list also: was the license updated to plain GPL+font exception, without the polemic extra clauses under which the first release came out? and finally: is there a zip with the current ttf versions of the fonts somewhere? -- Nicolas Mailhot ___ Openfontlibrary mailing list Openfontlibrary@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/openfontlibrary
Re: [Openfontlibrary] [Fwd: Updates of liberation-fonts.]
Does this mean that Ascender will not develop the fonts further and the develepment will be done in the framework of this project? Re: [Openfontlibrary] urw donated or not
I seem to recall that in early versions of Ghostscript the URW fonts had a *much* more restricted licence - but they were distributed free of charge Question - did Artifex pay only to get the licence changed to GPL or did they pay URW to allow the earlier free of charge distribution - Chris minombresbond wrote: the urw font package is one of the best quality collection of free-as-freedom fonts, gplized for the ghostscript project the people say on the web that these sources were *donated* by urw but, in the Raph Levin blog in advocato I found: http://www.advogato.org/person/raph/diary/257.html By the way, URW did not donate these fonts under the GPL out of their own hearts.
