[Evolution] Bug#801223: evolution: please consider not rendering HTML messages by default

2015-10-07 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Package: evolution
Version: 3.18.0-2
Severity: important

Control: found -1 3.12.9~git20141130.241663-1

Hi,

Evolution displays HTML messages by default, but (as far as I
understand) the engine used to do so it not well-maintained security
wise. [1] was mentioned on IRC.

Please consider disabling rendering of HTML by default. Currently
users can disable this manually: Edit -> Preferences -> Mail
Preferences -> HTML Messages -> Plain Text Mode: HTML Mode -> Only
ever show plain text.

If you consider this request valid, it might also make sense to
implement the same change in Jessie. I marked the bug as found in
Jessie's version of evolution to keep track of this.

Ansgar

Since the update to 3.16.3 there is now a "Lose formatting?" dialog everytime I
try to reply to an HTML mail. Dealing with HTML mail is annoying enough as it
is without encouraging more people to send it.

Please can you backport the (trivial looking) patch referenced by

It looks like upgrading to 3.17.1+ would also suffice to deal with this issue.

[Evolution] Bug#721535: evolution: Please don't ask submitter to report bug upstream

2013-09-01 Thread Ross Boylan
Package: evolution
Version: 3.4.4-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Your reportbug template asks that bugs be submitted directly upstream on the
grounds of being understaffed.

There are a number of problems with that; I'm filing this bug because upstream
is not supporting the version in wheezy.

I interpreted the instructions to mean submit anything that is not obviously a
packaging issue to upstream. Another problem is that an end user, such as
myself, encountering a problem, can only speculate about whether the issue is
present in the upstream code, or is Debian-specific.

Finally, isn't policy that all bugs should go to debian and the maintainers
submit upstream only if appropriate?

I just submitted a bug upstream, which produced this response in minutes (the
reportbug gui seems to have mangled it a bit):

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore.
GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there
will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new
functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a
newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer
version of GNOME.

In fact the current debian/rules is sourcing
/usr/share/hardening-includes/hardening.make but never updating the CFLAGS
LDFLAGS.

You might prever this version of the patch (what ubuntu is doing) as it
preserves the other flags.

[Evolution] Bug#643302: evolution: please conflict with gbirthday version in stable

2011-09-26 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Package: evolution
Severity: wishlist

Dear Evolution Maintainers,

as documented in bug 614129 there is an incompatability between
gbirthday from stable and evolution 2.32 and above. As the maintainer
for gbirthday in Debian I would kindly ask you to add

Breaks: gbirthday ( 0.4.1-2)

to the evolution binary package. Thank you for your consideration.

Regards

Rolf Leggewie

Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: important

Dear Debian folks,

Evolution 3.0.2 still contains a lot of bugs especially in the mbox to
Maildir transition [1], which are hopefully fixed in Evolution 3.0.3
[2].

I guess severity important is not strong enough to prevent Evolution
3.0.2 to migrate into testing. I would suggest you set a higher severity
to save you a lot of work and a lot of user grieve when upgrading.

Of course I hope these issues are all fixed in Evolution 3.0.3.

Thanks,

Paul

Well to also save me some time I reported those issues upstream. (Also
the reportbug information page told me to do this.) But Svante reported
some pretty serious problems as for as I know.

Hi,

We are planning to transition[0] libnotify to version 0.7 which
breaks its API.

Unfortunately, after a rebuild it seems that your package FTBFS with
the newer version.

Packages of the 0.7 version can be currently found in experimental.

API changes (shamelessly taken from[1]):
notify_notification_new_with_status_icon is gone
notify_notification_attach_to_status_icon is gone
notify_notification_attach_to_widget is gone
notify_notification_set_geometry_hints is gone
notify_notification_new has lost its widget argument

All rebuild logs can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~bigon/libnotify0.7_rebuildlog/

Cheers

Laurent Bigonville

[Evolution] Bug#630268: evolution: Please transition to libnotify 0.7

2011-06-12 Thread bigon
Source: evolution
Version: 2.32.3-1
Severity: important
User: pkg-gnome-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: libnotify0.7-transition

Hi,

We are planning to transition[0] libnotify to version 0.7 which
breaks its API.

Unfortunately, after a rebuild it seems that your package FTBFS with
the newer version.

Packages of the 0.7 version can be currently found in experimental.

API changes (shamelessly taken from[1]):
notify_notification_new_with_status_icon is gone
notify_notification_attach_to_status_icon is gone
notify_notification_attach_to_widget is gone
notify_notification_set_geometry_hints is gone
notify_notification_new has lost its widget argument

All rebuild logs can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~bigon/libnotify0.7_rebuildlog/

Cheers

Laurent Bigonville

[Evolution] Bug#601692: evolution: Please build with gnome-pilot support

2010-10-28 Thread David Newgas
Package: evolution
Version: 2.30.3-2david1
Severity: normal

evolution 2.30.1.2-2 removed gnome-pilot support, closing #580293. The
recommends was dropped in svn rev 1602, the actual building was disabled in rev
1477, and bundling relevant libraries in libevolution was disabled in rev 1480.

Pilots are still used by some and for us disabling gnome-pilot is a regression.
Please consider restoring support.

If keeping libhal dependencies out of evolution is key, perhaps consider
splitting the gnome-pilot depending parts ( /usr/lib/evolution-*/conduits ,
currently in libevolution and /usr/share/gnome-pilot/conduits currently in
evolution-common ) into a separate binary package and only having that depend
on libgnome-pilot2.

(as you can see I am currently running a evolution with gnome-pilot re-enabled)

Thanks for all your maintainance work,
David

I think it would be best if you could provide him with a general patch
that fixes both original templates file and all translations.

No problem (except that I don't know how to create a patch for the
debian/ directory sensibly).

I attached a tar file. Please go into
cd evolution-2.29.3.2/
tar xjvf evolution-2.29.3.2-whitespace.tar.bz2
this will update the templates file and all affected files in
debian/po

Of course, you can extract it somewhere else for inspection first, to
see the diff yourself.

If something is still unclear of you need more help, do not hesitate
to ask!

Greetings

Helge

Is there any problem with reverting the change? Until you do this,
translations of this string will not be shown, which is a PITY as this
string seems rather important to the users.

Of course, if you assume this bug to be not valid (please say so!)
then unfuzzy the German translation (as shown in

Thanks!

[Evolution] Bug#469168: evolution: please ask when moving a folder

2008-03-03 Thread Runa Sandvik
Package: evolution
Version: 2.12.3-1+b1
Severity: wishlist

I just set up evolution with IMAP, and then I managed to move my
inbox-folder into my debian-folder. One would think that moving the
inbox-folder out would be a simple drag-and-drop task, but it wasn't.

When I tried the simple drag-and-drop, I got the following message:
Error while Copying `debian/inbox' to `'. IMAP command failed:
Operation is not supported on mailbox

I managed to clean up my mess on the server side, but it would be nice
if evolution could ask before moving folders.

Cheers,
Runa

Hi,

Currently, evolution 'Recommends' spamassassin or bogofilter. aptitude
installs Recommends by default, and most probably the whole of apt will
do so later this year.

Spamassassin is not quite a light package, in itself, but also has a
significant number of new dependencies and recommendations that it pulls
in. From my personal experience, spam filtering is most often done at
the server side. I know of no ISP's nor companies that do not spam-scan
on their mailservers already.

While I see that there are some use cases for installing spamassassin on
the client side, I think they are hardly the default case, and do not
outweigh the extra burden of installing the entire spamassassin-chain by
default.

Please downgrade these spamfilters to 'Suggests'.

Thanks!

Thijs

[Evolution] Please fix the bug in evolution-exchange

2006-06-19 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dear the great Evolution Maintainer,

I think I'm having the problem that's described in the following bug:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=342169

this is happened after I upgrade my debian (unstable) box last week,
before in version 2.6.1, all's ok.

It's a very frustrating bug.
And I really don't like the idea of re-compiling evolution myself :-)

Please help?

All the best.
